BBQ sauce

logan82
I am having a hard time finding the BBQ sauce I like. It is Stubb's BBQ sauce. Mild or regular. I think it might be a not so popular item around here. I like a nonsweet sauce. I have tried Sweet Baby Ray's and Famous Dave's and like neither. Suggest your favorite sauce but at least describe it a little even if it is sweet. I don't like the sugar based sauces at all.

I blame Wang.

Logan, I literally just saw Stubb's BBQ sauce at Copp's in Madison yesterday. I remember it because a guy was pointiing it out to his wife as being his favorite and I thought about how I have always liked the Stubb's Dry Rub. I don't know where you live but there is hope since I have seen it in WI.

I have bottle of Saz's Original that I got Piggly Wiggly and it isn't too bad. I like it more than Sweet Baby Ray's.

As the Game mentioned, making BBQ sauce isn't too hard, I usually do it for ribs. Try Googling some recipies or check Alton Brown, the Good Eats Guy, from Food Network. I used a reciped of his once to make a sauce for ribs that turned out really well. It was a friend of mine from NC that originally told me to just make my own.

Logan, my parent's old neighbor made some sauce that I think you would like. I'm the same way, I'm not a fan of Sweet Baby Ray's. Too sweet. He use to sell it at festival, but he got sick of making it. I'll see if I can find some at their house. If I have some luck, I'll send ya a pm for your address.

Where are you looking for it? I've got a pretty good idea where you can get it...

Glass mason-type jar with a picture of "Stubbs" on it?

Cattlemen's - Hands down

I don't like sweet sauces at all, just smokey.

They seem to have just revamped and renamed everything, so I am not sure what I like anymore, but the bottle used to look like this:

The classic was great and so was the "smokey" version. But, like I said, they seem to have changed things up.

Maybe Stubbs isn't disappearing. I was a little worried because the store I usually shop at only had the spicy left and there wasn't a spot for the regular. My in-laws also had never heard of it and couldn't find it down in Waukesha where they shop. I wouldn't mind trying to make my own. I have looked into it but it seemed like it was going to be difficult and not really less expensive than just buying it. Thank you for the suggestions guys.

If it's the same Cattlemen's, it is a regional chain restaurant out here in CA.

I'm a fan of Sweet Baby Ray's (partucularly the Hickory & Brown Sugar flavor), but other's I like are Zeke's Smokehouse (particularly the Carolina Mustard BBQ sauce) and Lucile's Smokehouse (particularly the Memphis BBQ sauce). Both have multiple flavors if you have different tastes.

I took a walk down the BBQ sauce aisle tonight to check on the Stubb's.

In stock were: smokey mesquite, honey pecan, hickory bourbon, mild, spicy and original. All were priced at $3.49 w/ 55 cent coupons attached bringing it down to under $3.

In addition, there are a few varieties of marinade and 5 varieties of spice rubs.

I am seeing it all over in the other grocery store. under $3 is a pretty good price, I normally see it for $4 a bottle around here.

Stubb's marinades for beef and chicken are also out of this world...

We regularly use Sweet Baby Ray's in this house, although we've recently become fans of a dry rub (too lazy to go look at the name - you've got to order it out of Texas.

However, I grew up with Open Pit - and while I'll agree with many assessments that it doesn't have the consistency of a great barbecue sauce (actually voted the WORST barbecue sauce in one recent poll) - I've got some recipes with that brand that beat anything else I know...

Pierce's in Portage. They are the store that looks like they are cutting back on the Stubbs selection. WalMart never had Stubbs.

I'm not familiar with Pierce's and have never set foot in a WalMart.

I've been a Woodman's guy forever...stop by and stock up!
