Huntsville readies for another Southern League All-Star Game

Mark McCarter, The Huntsville Times

HUNTSVILLE, AL. -- The first pitch, the only other time the Southern League All-Star Game was played in Huntsville, was delivered by a young lefty named Tom Glavine. You may have heard of him.

The last out was played with a considerable bit of bush-league hokiness to it. Richard Sterban, then a part-owner of the Huntsville Stars but better known as the "oom-pa-pa-mau-mau" bass voice from the Oak Ridge Boys, was inserted into the lineup to play right field.

"I was just hoping they wouldn't hit the ball to me," Sterban confessed after the game. Perhaps sharing that sentiment was Jeff Conner, the pitcher for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, who was wrapping up his team's 4-2 win over the Southern Leaguers.

On Monday at 7:30 PM, the Southern League All-Star Game returns to Huntsville's Joe Davis Stadium for the first time since 1986.

There are no guarantees, though it's quite likely, that a superstar-in-the-making like Glavine will appear. (File away the name Matt Dominguez of Jacksonville.)

Nor are there guarantees, though it's quite unlikely, to see a musician enter the game. That said, somebody in the Stars' office may well have Bo Bice's cell number.

Tickets for the game are $12 for reserved seats and $10 for general admission, though a number of free tickets are available through groups and companies - four per household by showing a Redstone Federal Credit Union check card at the box office, for instance - as Huntsville management strives to fill as many seats as possible.

The All-Star Game has averaged more than 6,100 in the last nine years, with 7,127 at Birmingham last year.

Challenged by the Huntsville organization's modest budget, there is little of extravagance planned for the two-day North vs. South All-Star event.

On Sunday, the players will attend a meet-and-greet autograph session and party at the Grand Salon of the Holiday Inn Downtown from 6:00 PM until 8:00.

A luncheon for players and guests will be there Monday at noon, with former major leaguer Jay Johnstone as the featured speaker.

Huntsville general manager Buck Rogers decided to eschew the traditional home run derby and will instead showcase Huntsville's Miracle League, a baseball league for disabled youngsters, from 5:30 until 6:30. After the game, a private party will be held at the hotel for the players and team officials.

Though the 1986 game was the last Southern League All-Star Game in Huntsville, then-owner Larry Schmittou lured the Double-A All-Star Game to the city in 1991. Only 4,022 attended the event, matching prospects from all three Double-A leagues. Slugger Jim Thome was among the three MVP winners that night.

In 1986, Huntsville's second season in the league, there were some other big names at the Southern League All-Star Game. For instance, Yastrzemski and Ripken. Alas, it was Mike Yastrzemski, son of Carl, and Billy Ripken, brother of Cal.

Terry Steinbach, the Huntsville catcher, was named MVP after hitting a homer, throwing out one would-be base-stealer and picking another man off. Two years later, Steinbach would be named MVP of the Major League All-Star Game with a homer and sacrifice fly.

Glavine, on his way to an 11-6 mark for Greenville that season, pitched two innings of one-hit ball before giving way to Knoxville's Cliff Young, who got the loss when a shaky All-Star defense led to four runs in two innings, three of them unearned.

Following Young to the mound was Todd Burns, still a Huntsville resident, who struck out two batters in a perfect fifth inning of work.

The Stars will be represented by pitchers Michael Bowman and Amaury Rivas. Second baseman Brett Lawrie was selected to the team but is to appear in Sunday's Futures Game in Anaheim, Calif. He plans to fly back to Huntsville to participate in the festivities. Huntsville outfielder Lorenzo Cain and closer Brandon Kintzler, since promoted to Triple-A, were also selections.

Final: @Brevard County 7, Dunedin 6 (12 innings)

Brevard County box score

Someone should be broadcasting this stuff! R.J. Seidel started and pitched well, allowing a run on four hits in three innings while striking out five and walking only one. Trey Watten followed and let in three runs in two innings. Mike Ramlow worked the next three frames, allowing Dunedin two runs to tie the game in the 8th. After that, it was the Corey Frerichs show: your hero worked four perfect innings, fanning five, to keep the Manatees in the game and pick up the win. Erik Komatsu and Sean Halton were both 3-6, and Josh Prince was 1-4 with two walks. Komatsu's now hitting a cool .311/.391/.439. If he can actually play center field, he could be pretty interesting. Scott Krieger continues to put up amusing lines, today going 1-4 with a triple and three strikeouts (plus a walk).

Brevard County play-by-play

The winning rally doesn't look sexy, but it got the job done:

Brevard County Bottom 12th

  • Sean Halton grounds out,
second baseman Justin McClanahan to first baseman Michael McDade.
  • Sergio
Miranda singles on a ground ball to shortstop Tyler Pastornicky.
  • Brock
Kjeldgaard strikes out swinging. Sergio Miranda steals (8) 2nd base.
  • Sean
McCraw singles on a fly ball to center fielder John Tolisano. Sergio
    Miranda scores.

Watten didn't walk anyone but allowed seven hits, so you might be

tempted to go off his 4/1 GO/AO ratio and chalk the hits up to bad luck, but

only one of them came on a grounder.

Final (game one): Nashville 6, @Memphis 4

Sounds take first game of doubleheader, 6-4

Nashville Sounds

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds beat the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds, 6-4, on Friday evening at AutoZone Park in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader.

Nashville (46-41) racked up ten hits in the seven-inning contest, as Adam Stern went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Ben Johnson added two hits and two RBIs.

The Sounds scored in the opening to take an early 1-0 lead after the first three Nashville hitters reached base to load the bases. Stern led off the contest with a double followed by a Lorenzo Cain bunt single and Mat Gamel walk. Brendan Katin then grounded into a 5-4-3 double play that allowed Stern to score for the first run of the game.

Johnson added to the Nashville lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run double. After shortstop Luis Cruz and second baseman Johnny Raburn singled earlier in the frame, the Nashville catcher smoked a two-run double to center field to plate both runners to give the Sounds a 3-0 lead. Later in the inning with two outs, Cain hit an inning-ending grounder to Donovan Solano, but the shortstop made a throwing error to first base and allowed Johnson to score from second for a 4-0 advantage.

The Sounds picked up another run in the fifth for a 5-0 lead. After Katin was hit by a Lance Lynn pitch to reach base, the outfielder advanced to third base on a Joe Koshansky single and then came home as Cruz grounded into a another double play.

The Redbirds got to Sounds starter Marty McLeary in the bottom of the next frame as Memphis trimmed the lead to 5-4. After McLeary hit the first two batters and walked the next, Ruben Gotay crushed a grand slam over the right field wall. It was Gotay's eighth homer of the season.

The Sounds scored an insurance run in the next frame to make it 6-4. Johnson led off with an infield single to reach base, moved to second on Ray Olmedo's PCL-leading 12th sacrifice bunt, and then came home on a Stern RBI base knock.

McLeary allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 4 1 /3 innings. Reliever Mike McClendon (4-2) earned the win after contributing 2 2/3 shutout innings while fanning three.

Lynn (6-7) picked up the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts in four innings pitched.

Nashville box score

Haha, "PCL-leading 12th sacrifice bunt". Hey, take pride in your craft, I guess. Cain finished 2-4, while Gamel was 0-3 apart from the walk.

Mark Rogers with another step in the right direction. Dominating once again other then the 3 walks. 7k's in 5 innings! Nice! Also had 7 grounds out and 0 fly outs. Real nice!

Exciting stuff. Rogers walks a ton, but because he doesn't give extra base hits, especially homers (only 1 on the season), they don't really hurt him.

Final: Huntsville 8, Chattanooga 2

Huntsville Boxscore

Mark Rogers was flat out dominant tonight as noted in previous posts, he only threw 73 pitches, 43 for strikes through his 5 innings, he could have gone another inning + in this one. Eddie Morlan struck out 3 in his 2 scoreless innings of relief, Nick Green gave up 2 runs in his 2 innings. Brett Lawrie was 2-5 with a 2B, Caleb Gindl was 2-5 with a 2B, Drew Anderson was 1-3 with a HR, and my boy Mark Rogers was 1-3 with a 2B. It's worth nothing that Mark has a .221 average so far this season, he can swing a little bit, I like have all these pitchers that can also hit.

Huntsville Recap

The Stars could have gotten more in the 3rd.

Huntsville Top 3rd

  • Dayton Buller strikes out swinging.
  • Mark Rogers doubles (3) on a line drive to left fielder Andrew Lambo.
  • Brett Lawrie called out on strikes.
  • Caleb Gindl doubles (20) on a fly ball to center fielder Trayvon Robinson. Mark Rogers scores.
  • Drew T. Anderson walks.
  • Zelous Wheeler hit by pitch. Caleb Gindl to 3rd. Drew T. Anderson to 2nd.
  • Taylor Green grounds out, second baseman Jaime Pedroza to first baseman Jerry Sands.

Most of Rogers' innings look like this.

Chattanooga Bottom 5th

  • Jaime Pedroza strikes out swinging, catcher Dayton Buller to first baseman Steffan Wilson.
  • Kyle Russell strikes out swinging.
  • Keyter Collado walks.
  • Mario Alvarez grounds out to first baseman Steffan Wilson.

I am starting to feel better about the Brewers minor league system.

I am legitimately excited by Lawrie and Cain.

Jeffress looks like he might still prove useful.

If Mark Roger's was on another team, I'd want to trade Corey Hart for him.

The last few starts for Odorizzi and Peralta were both very good.

Can we just forget the whole Arnett & Salome fiasco?

Fianl: Beloit 4, Wisconsin 3

Ninth inning homer sinks Rattlers in Beloit

BELOIT, WI - Danny Rams did

it to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The

catcher for the Beloit Snappers hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth

inning at Pohlman Field on Friday night to beat the Rattlers 4-3.

The loss was the third time during the just concluded nine-game road trip

that the Rattlers suffered a 'walk-off' defeat.

Wisconsin, despite a few late heroics of their own, ended the trip with a

2-7 record.

Beloit (44-40, 7-8) jumped on

the board with two runs in the first inning.

Yorby Martinez drew a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI triple by James

Beresford. One out later, Yosmil

Pinto sent a grounder to second. The

Rattlers infield was pulled halfway in, but the throw home did not get

Beresford.

Wisconsin (32-51, 6-9) got one

of those runs back in the top of the third inning.

Michael Marseco tripled with one out.

A grounder to second off the bat of Erik Miller got Marseco home to make

the score 2-1.

But, Beloit answered in the

bottom of the fourth. Anderson

Hidalgo doubled with one out and took third on an error on the play.

Reggie Williams singled through the drawn in infield to drive in Hidalgo

for a 3-1 Beloit lead.

Beloit starting pitcher Miguel

Munoz gave up two hits and retired 19 of the first 21 batters he face.

Then, two swings got the Rattlers back to even in the top of the seventh.

Khris Davis singled with one out. Morris

hammered the next pitch over the wall in right-center for a two-run homer and a

3-3 game.

Rams wasted no time in the

bottom of the ninth inning. He drove

the first pitch from Rattlers reliever Jon Pokorny past the scoreboard in

left-center for the game winning homer.

Friday was the second time this

season the Snappers have hit a game winning homer to beat the Rattlers at

Pohlman Field. Wang Wei Lin hit a

'walk-off' homer to beat the Rattlers in the bottom of the tenth inning on

May 3. Opponents have eight 'walk-off' wins over Wisconsin in 2010.

The Rattlers return to Time

Warner Cable Field on Saturday night to start a three-game series with the

Burlington Bees. Damon Krestalude

(3-3, 5.55) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.

Burlington counters with Dusty Odenbach (4-5, 4.44) as their scheduled

starter.

It's Taco Bell Night and

there is a postgame fireworks display sponsored by FOX 11.

Some tickets remain Saturday's game and may be purchased in person at

the Time Warner Cable Field Box Office, over the phone at (800) WI-TIMBER, or on

the web at www.timberrattlers.com.

Game time on Saturday is

6:35pm. If you can't make it to

the game, you can tune in to the radio broadcast on AM1280, WNAM, starting with

the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:15pm.

HOME RUNS:

Wisconsin Boxscore

While Maverick Lasker did give up the 3 Earned Runs... lets just the say it was really more like the 1 as WI was shoddy in the field again. The "triple" was misplayed by not one but two outfielders, and Gennet's throw beat the runner home but somehow Garfield wasn't able to apply the tag. Maverick's (I just like typing that) final line: 6 2 IP, 6H, 3ER, 2BB, 5K. Jon Pokorny who's been Mr Reliable just couldn't get them to extra innings, not that it would have mattered given the T-Rats record in 1 run/extra innings games... but hey, the law of averages has to start working in our favor at some point doesn't it? Kentrail Davis did not play again today, Scooter Gennett's hit streak came to an end at 14, Hunter Morris was 1-4 with that big HR, Chris Dennis was 1-4 with a 2B, and Michael Marseco was 1-3 with another triple.

Wisconsin Recap

Not the best sequence of events here..

Beloit Bottom 4th

  • Michael Gonzales flies out to center fielder D' Vontrey Richardson.
  • Anderson
Hidalgo doubles (24) on a fly ball to center fielder D' Vontrey
Richardson. Anderson Hidalgo advances to 3rd, on fielding error by
    center fielder D' Vontrey Richardson.
  • Reggie Williams singles on a line drive to center fielder D' Vontrey Richardson. Anderson Hidalgo scores.
  • With Daniel Rams batting, Reggie Williams caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Cameron Garfield to second baseman Ryan Gennett.
  • Daniel Rams reaches on missed catch error by first baseman Hunter Morris, assist to shortstop Michael Marseco.
  • Wang-Wei Lin singles on a ground ball to right fielder Erik Miller. Daniel Rams to 2nd.
  • Yorby Martinez pops out to first baseman Hunter Morris in foul territory.

Dennis doubled after the Morris HR but WI couldn't push him across.

Wisconsin Top 7th

  • Ryan Gennett lines out to shortstop James Beresford.
  • Khristopher Davis singles on a ground ball to left fielder Reggie Williams.
  • Hunter Morris homers (2) on a fly ball to right center field. Khristopher Davis scores.
  • Chris Dennis doubles (23) on a line drive to center fielder Wang-Wei Lin.
  • Cameron Garfield strikes out swinging.

Final, 10 Innings: Helena 7, Great Falls 6

By Brett Billings

In what looked to be a sure series sweep for the Great Falls Voyagers,

the Helena Brewers stormed back to win in the 10th inning in front of a

crowd 1,091 at Kindrick Field.

Great Falls (11-8) led by four runs in the seventh inning.

Cody Hawn, stepped to the plate after Reggie Keen and Carlos George

singled with two outs. Hawn, who had a two-run double in the third

inning, doubled off the wall in right field to score both and cut the

deficit to two. Both of his doubles were with two outs.

Helena scored a run in each of the final three innings on

their way to the win. John Dishon doubled with one out in the eighth

inning. One batter later, Brent Dean unloaded on a ball off the wall in

dead center to make it a one run game. Dean finished the game

2 for 5 with an RBI.

The runs in innings nine and ten weren't quite as routine. The

Brewers were down to their final out in the ninth after Keen and George

both grounded out to start the inning. Hawn, who finished the game 2

for 4 with four RBI, was then walked on four pitches and pinch ran for

by Brandon Sizemore.

Shea Vucinich kept the inning alive with a line drive double off the

left field wall. After Mike Walker walked to load the bases, John

Dishon did the unthinkable. He laid down a perfect safety squeeze bunt

that scored the tying run.

After a scoreless top-half of the tenth for Great Falls, Dean

led off the Brewers' tenth with a single to center field. John Bivens,

who was robbed of two base hits earlier, came to the plate just looking

to lay down a sacrifice bunt. He got more than he bargained for as Juan

Silverio's throw was a little off target to second base. With nobody

covering third, Dean sprinted ninety feet closer and Bivens made it to

second.

Carlos George walked to load the bases after Keen struck out. Sizemore,

who hit for Hawn after pinch running for him in the ninth, hit a ground

ball to first that scored the game-winning run after a bad throw to the

plate.

Adrian Rosario received the win for the Brewers. Rosario, who

was called to Low-A Wisconsin after the game, pitched the final three

frames without allowing a run. He struck out two and walked one.

With the win, the Brewers improve to 12-7 and gain sole possession of first place in the Pioneer League North again.

The Brewers will hit the road for a three-game series against

the Billings Mustangs starting tomorrow. They will return home

Wednesday to host the Ogden Raptors. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05

with gates opening at 6:00

Helena Boxscore

Another come from behind late inning dramatic victory for the H-Crew, I love this team. Matt Miller was stellar again today, this pick is really growing on me. 2nd Round pick Jimmy Nelson continues to struggle very early in his pro career, he allowed 5 ER on 6 hits over 2 innings. Adrian Rosario was very good going the rest of the way to earn the victory and a call up to WI. I really liked him last him last year, he's a player I'll be keeping my eye on. Reggie Keen was 2-6, Carlos George was 2-6, Cody Hawn 2-4 with 2 doubles, Shea Vucinich was 1-5 with the critical double late, Brent Dean was 2-5 with a double and some clutch hitting.

Sounds complete doubleheader sweep of Redbirds

Nashville Sounds

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds completed a sweep of a doubleheader against the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds with a come-from-behind 6-5 victory on Friday evening at AutoZone Park.

Nashville (47-41) moved to 4-6 in twinbill action with the sweep tonight, the club's first doubleheader sweep this season.

Sounds starter Tim Dillard got off to a rough start as the Redbirds plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The bases were quickly loaded after the first three hitters reached base by two walks and one hit batter. Memphis' first run came on a wild pitch by Dillard, while Ray Olmedo's throwing error allowed the next two runs to score. Catcher Matt Pagnozzi capped the scoring rally with an infield groundout to second base that brought home Mark Shorey for a 4-0 lead.

The Sounds scored three runs to come within one in the top of the third inning at 4-3. Catcher Anderson De La Rosa began the scoring rally with a leadoff walk and advanced to third base on a Norris Hopper line drive single to right field. Extending his hitting streak to five games, Lorenzo Cain singled home De La Rosa for the first run. Later in the inning with outs, Joe Koshansky knocked a line drive two-run single to center field that scored Hopper and Cain to make it 4-3.

The Redbirds got one run back in the next frame as Kevin Howard hit a one-out double to center followed by Aaron Luna going to first after being hit by Dillard. Pagnozzi then singled to right field to bring home Howard for a 5-3 advantage.

Nashville came within one run again in the next inning. Olmedo singled to lead off the frame, moved to third on a base hit by Dillard, and then scored on a Hopper sacrifice fly that made it 5-4.

The Sounds scored two runs in the Nashville sixth to take a 6-5 lead. Pinch-hitting for Dillard, Adam Stern entered the game and belted a game-tying solo homer over the left field wall off Josh Kinney. The long ball was Stern's second on the year and Nashville's third pinch-hit homer.

Hopper recorded an infield single in the next at-bat, stole second base, advanced to third on a Memphis throwing error, and then scored the go-ahead run thanks to an RBI single by third baseman Mat Gamel.

Earning the win in his second spot start this season, Dillard (2-4) surrendered five runs (three earned) on three hits and three walks with one strikeout in five innings pitched. Mitch Stetter provided a shutout inning in relief, walking one and striking out on in the sixth. Chris Smith shut the door in the seventh, picking up his PCL-leading 18th save.

Memphis starter Oneli Perez allowed four runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. Kinney (2-4) was charged with the loss after giving up two runs (one earned).

The Sounds and Redbirds will continue their series at 6:05 pm CT on Saturday night in the fourth game of a five-game set at AutoZone Park in Memphis. Left-hander Sam Narron (3-3, 3.19) takes the mound for Nashville against Memphis right-hander David Kopp (0-3, 8.36).

Manatees walk-off with sweep of Dunedin

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees entered Friday night's game with the Dunedin Blue Jays seeking both its first series sweep and first three-game winning streak of the season. The Manatees got both in dramatic fashion with a 7-6 walk-off win in 12 innings.

In the 12th inning, Manatees catcher Sean McCraw blooped a 1-2 pitch from Dunedin's Evan Crawford into center field to score Sergio Miranda from second with two outs and give Brevard County the win.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Manatees took control of the game, in the bottom of the inning with three runs. A one-out single from Erik Komatsu scored Josh Prince and three batters later with two outs, Brock Kjeldgaard drove in Komatsu and Sean Halton with a two-out single to make it 3-1 Manatees.

Scott Krieger led off the second with a triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Peter Fatse to give Brevard County a 4-1 lead.

Manatees starting pitcher R.J. Seidel went three innings and allowed one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out five. Trey Watten relieved Seidel in the fourth and ran into some trouble.

After getting Brian Van Kirk to ground into a double play, Watten gave up three straight singles, culminating with a RBI single by Justin McClanahan as the Manatees lead was cut to 4-2.

In the fifth, John Tolisano and Travis d'Arnaud led off the frame with back-to-back singles for Dunedin off of Watten. After Michael McDade grounded out and moved both runners up 90 feet, Mark Sobowelski singled to left to score both Tolisano and d'Arnaud as the Blue Jays tied the game at 4-4.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, with two outs and runners on the corners, Ross Buckwalter came in and was greeted rudely by Halton and he took the second pitch he saw and deposited it in left field to score Prince and make it 5-4. Next up was Miranda who singled to center to drive in Komatsu for a 6-4 Manatees lead.

Brevard County's lead would not last for long though as Mike Ramlow, going into his third inning of work, gave up a two-out two-run bomb to Justin McClanahan in the top of the eighth as Dunedin tied the game once again.

The Manatees got the go-ahead run to second base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but could not push it across as the game went into extra innings.

Corey Frerichs came in for the Manatees in the ninth and was lights out as threw four perfect innings and struck out five to keep Brevard County alive.

Brevard County was finally able to break through in the 12th as Miranda reached on a one-out infield single. He then stole second on a Kjeldgaard strikeout and then McCraw came up and took care of the rest.

Both Komatsu and Halton went 3-for-6 while Miranda had two hits as well. The Manatees pitching staff struck out 15 and walked just two and Frerichs earned his sixth win of the season.

With a six-game homestand complete, the Manatees will hit the road for a three-game series against the Tampa Yankees beginning on Saturday at 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

After an off-day on Tuesday, Brevard County will host the Charlotte Stone Crabs in a four-game set beginning on Wednesday, July 14 at Space Coast Stadium.

Stars get strong pitching and hitting in win over Lookouts

By Aaron Morse, Huntsville Stars

Mark Rogers went five shutout innings, Brett Lawrie drove in three runs, and the Huntsville Stars (9-9, 42-46) knocked off the Chattanooga Lookouts (10-8, 43-44) by a final score of 8-2 Friday night.

Rogers helped his own cause as he doubled with one away in the third inning. Then with two down, Caleb Gindl drilled a double to center, plating Rogers and giving the Stars a 1-0 lead.

They got to Chattanooga starter Mario Alvarez again the very next inning. With one away, Alvarez didn’t help himself as he committed a throwing error, allowing Lee Haydel to reach safely. After Dayton Buller drew a walk, Rogers grounded out, moving both runners up 90 feet. The Stars were the beneficiaries of two-out lightning as Lawrie delivered a two-RBI single to center.

The 3-0 lead was more than enough for the Stars’ pitching staff. Rogers (4-6) was dominant, surrendering only a lone infield single in his five innings of work. He walked three and struck-out seven along the way to picking up the win.

The Stars got some insurance in the seventh against Chattanooga’s bullpen. New pitcher James Adkins replaced Alvarez, who only gave up one earned run in his six innings of work. Adkins retired the first batter he faced, but gave up a single to Gindl and proceeded to walk Drew Anderson. Zelous Wheeler (who reached base four times in five trips on the night) followed with a single up the gut to score Gindl and make the score 4-0. A walk loaded the bases and Steffan Wilson hit the ball deep enough into the outfield to score Anderson and give the Stars a 5-0 lead.

Huntsville wasn’t done though. In the eighth, pinch hitter Juan Sanchez reached on an error. Lawrie doubled him home for his third RBI of the day. Then with two outs, Anderson connected for a mammoth two-run homer, extending the lead to 8-0.

Eddie Morlan worked two scoreless innings of relief. Nick Green did have his issues, as he gave up a couple of runs in the eighth, but he worked a scoreless ninth to finish the game off.

The Stars look to take the season series Saturday evening as it will be the last time the two teams meet this year. Huntsville is 10-9 against Chattanooga so far and they’ll send Lucas Luetge (1-0, 2.30 ERA) to the mound in their effort to finish off the series right before the All-Star break. You can catch all the action on the Stars Radio Network, beginning at 6:00 PM central time with the Window World Pre-Game Report.

Chattanooga Times Free Press:

After allowing leadoff hitter Dee Gordon's infield single to start the game and walking No. 2 batter Trayvon Robinson, Mark Rogers quickly induced a double play from Jerry Sands and faced only two batters over the mininum through the next four innings.

"That was probably Mark's best game," Huntsville manager Mike Guerrero said of his pitcher.. "Once he got through the first inning he was in total control."
