Hart Trade Thread: Latest-- Does Hart's injury mean no deal?

Heard Homer mention on today's post game show that he heard from a "source" that there is a Hart/Coffey for Bumgarner rumor. I know people think there is no chance that the Giants would trade him, but you never know. Would be pretty awesome, I would not mind one bit throwing Coffey into that deal.

The thing that doesnt get talked about much is if they pick up a MLR pitcher, they would be able to flip a pitcher like Bush, Davis or Narverson for a decent outfielder.

Very possible, depending on the major deal with Hart, Weeks, or Fielder. If they are able to get some sort of MLB pitcher like Garza or Sanchez, they might have to include someone like Bush to fill the trade partner's rotation spot.

I think they could trade Bush or Davis either way. They still have 5 starters even if they trade one, though depending on who they trade they could have four lefties, and not as much depth. I was actually wondering about trading Bush. Teams seem to over value pitching quite a bit Bush has been solid lately. I wonder if we could get a decent prospect for him.

So he traded one top prospect, a 29 year old reliever, and a middling starting prospect for a top fight catcher in his mid 20s? People always point out that trade but it relies on Joe Nathan becoming a dominating closer at age 29and keeping that up in his 30s and Pierzynski being hated in the clubhouse in San Francisco. As a talent deal it wasn't lopsided at the time. Now Villaneuva for Franklin, that giving up something for Wayne Franklin
The results are what matters and there is a reason that GMs make a lot of money.

If you think about it, Liriano was on track to become a Johan Santana caliber pitcher until he blew his arm out. Nathan quietly went on to become one of the most doiminant and consistent closers in the game, until he too was injured. At any rate, Minnesota got more than their money's worth.

Who care's how trades look when they are made? Remember how good the Sexson trade looked at the time? Capellan for Kolb?

Why does it seem like Bush gets no respect? IF we get Baumgarner and then trade arguably our 2nd best pitcher this year - how are we improving our staff?
Bush is an average pitcher who will be gone after this year.

Fan is short for fanatic.

Well unless we make a trade to get a right handed arm for the rotation there is no way we trade Bush. We would have Gallardo ® then Wolf, Davis, Parra, Narveson, or if magic happened and we got Bumgardner that would still be 4 lefties... that can not be allowed to happen. Plus average or not he is getting the job done and actually a stud pinch runner http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Minor looked pretty damn good in the Future's Game. 91-94.

I don't know what you're talking about as he sucks, he's not a good enough return for Corey Hart in a straight up trade, he has no value as a prospect.

Well if we're giving up on the season anyway does it really matter?

Why can't that be allowed to happen? I could care less what arm a pitcher throws with as long as he can get guys out. He could throw with his foot for all I care if he can get guys out.

Any trade made this year is looking at next year and beyond, when Bush will have left for free agency. In fact, we're talking about going with a six-man rotation after the All Star break, so whoever we'd pick up in trade might be in AAA when he comes to the Crew... at least until we are able to trade someone like Bush.

Right now, we've got Yo ®, Wolf (L) and Parra (L) as probables for next year. Narveson will be on the roster, but could very well be in the bullpen. I agree they probably won't look to go into next season with four lefties, but I'd guess they'll aim for the best possible arm (regardless of left or right) in trade for Hart and/or Fielder. If they have a chance for a potential-top-of-the-rotation lefty, they have to take it. They could then look to find a righty in the offseason, or they could bring up someone like Rivas to fill the fifth spot in the rotation.

I do like to see that the desparation in GMs is starting early this year. If we could land a strong AAA arm as part of a deal for Hart or Fielder, I'd be pretty happy.

I'm not even sure how Bush came up in this discussion, but with how he has been pitching lately, it might be a good "sell high" opportunity.
Just part of the implications of making a trade that often gets overlooked. Teams like San Fran will be hard pressed to trade a pitcher on their MLB roster unless they have a ready-made replacement sitting in AAA (such as Tampa with Hellickson). On the Brewers' side, we already have too many starting pitchers on our MLB team. Going into next year, we will still have Yo, Wolf, Parra and Narveson, and have an option on Davis (which probably won't be exercised). If we traded for Hart for Sanchez straight up, San Fran would only have four viable major league starters, and the Brewers would have to go to a seven-man rotation... this just doesn't make sense.

That's why I've long argued that if we are going to make a mid-season trade of a player like Hart or Fielder, it makes more sense we should target minor leaguers rather than "proven" major leaguers. We'll get them longer, and the added risk of not being "proven" may allow us to get someone with some more "upside potential." As we see the desparation increase, there will be GM's who will begin to value wins this season much more than possible wins in future seasons. That's when "that kid pitching well down in AA" becomes less important than "that guy on the Brewers who's leading the league in HRs."

It's one thing to show on paper how much more valueable a AA pitcher is than Prince Fielder, but it's another thing when you have the World Series in your sights, and that extra win or two Prince could bring you this season could make all the difference. It's promising to see a couple of rumors floating around. It shows Melvin's working hard, and hopefully the right deal(s) will come around (for Hart and / or Fielder) and Melvin will pull the trigger.

Heck, one deal may lead to the other. Atlanta may land Hart, and that would prompt a competitor to realize they need to do something to keep up, so they make a big offer for Fielder. It will be interesting to see how things play out. Again, it's one thing to tell Buster Olney that you don't like dealing with Boras, and another to tell your team owner and fans that you had a chance to land one of the best hitters in baseball, but you passed on it, and that's the reason you missed the playoffs. Those moves cost GMs their jobs as much, if not more, than trading away a AA guy who, several years later becomes a star.

draysbay has about 200 posts and counting on this possible Wade Davis for Hart deal. Though I thought Minor was a likely acquisition last week, it truly looks like Hart's continued production has created a wider swath of interest and some very intriguing names being bandied about as return. Wade Davis at 24 has spent the entire season so far in the rotation, with some decent results sullied by a very troubling gopher ball issue. Heck of an interesting conversation piece however.
