Mr. Cain goes to Milwaukee (well, technically, to Atlanta); Latest -- Lorenzo sent back to Nashville

And That

This creates a problem for Monday's start, because Gallardo isn't eligible to return until Tuesday. I wonder if Cappy gets the call?
I suppose the obvious answer to Monday's start is to piggyback Capuano and Villanueva.

The not so obvious answer is to bring up Rivas to make that one start. Of course that would mean another roster move, either Cain back down or Gomez down presumably. Since either would be going down presumably the next day anyway to make room for Gallardo, it would just be a one day adjustment.

Since either would have to stay down for 10 days, the day after Rivas pitches, assuming Gallardo goes Tuesday, then Rivas goes back down.

Rivas is on the DL.

The brewers are in a tough spot (well, Macha is in a tough spot)...He probably wants to win as many games as he can because that in and of itself could be the reason he has a job next year.

I think the best thing for the Brewers is to make Cain the every day starter. It would also be nice to see what we have in Capuano and have him take the ball every 5th day.

The season is lost but I think we can still make it positive by seeing what we have for next year.

Sadly though, with seeing how Gomez is/was used this year and how Gamel was used when he was up, I seriously doubt that will happen.

Just a guess... Edmonds will continue to play nearly everyday while two young, high upside guys will sit on the bench. Gomez to AAA with Cain the regular starter in CF would be a great idea.

Unless it's for a really short period of time, Cain better not be called up to sit the bench. He lost enough development time to injury in his career, or he'd already have been our starting CF this year, and Gomez never would have been traded for. He should definitely be a starter next season, so he needs everyday PT this season.

Gomez needs to go to AAA until he starts to hit. He has been painfully awful this year. I don't like burning too much of Cain's service time, but if he's up, I want him playing. I really doubt that he can possibly be worse than Gomez, and Edmonds has no value to this team in the long run.

It really is amazing how many runs this team has scored despite having both Gomez and Escobar consistently in the lineup.

Based on past history Cain probably doesn't start tonight ( I can't think the last time they started a position player call-up on the day they were activated), but hopefully in the next day or two he gets a start and will start (generally) as long as he hits and plays acceptable defense. In other words he has a chance to be a starter, but he can't afford to struggle otherwise it all gets unpredictable as to who will start.

Rivas was just activated from the DL. Maybe he'll make a couple of starts while Davis is on the DL. Wishful thinking probably though.
Gallardo is eligible to return on Tuesday, and then we have 5 starters already, so it's really only one open start that was created.

I agree, though I would hope that at some point Macha would make sure the younger guys are playing everyday to gain experience.

The Brewers are close to being out of it but still are theoretically in it, so I don't see them starting Cain every day just yet. With Yo coming back off the DL and the Reds and Cardinals not exactly playing lights out, the Brewers' front office seems determined to not sell. We'll see...

One would think, usually, that bringing up Cain is a sign that Hart is about to be traded, but I think this move is more about Gomez, and being tired of having a short bench, especially now that the bullpen has improved

Sounds like they are close to giving up on Gomez, at least for this year, which would be a shame considering his talent level, his incredible defense and the fact that they have him for 4 years. JJ Hardy has only played in 46 games this year and has a .617 OPS (!), so at least so far that trade is a wash at worst...

Logan in with the optimism.

If that would happen, I'm buying lottery tickets.

Nah, I am just expecting to see a trade happened every time I log onto BF.net and Hart is the most likely to be traded. I saw the transaction arrows and the name Cain.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I'm thinking Edmonds will be given away in some minor deal very soon.
That was my first thought. Even when I found out Davis is going back to DL, I still think Edmunds is being traded. I just don't believe they'll get enough for Hart to trade him by the deadline.

Cool to see Cain up, I hope he gets an opportunity to replace Gomez. Gomez has been predictably bad, he is a replacement level player. If Cain plays, the Brewers have just improved their team.

Igor, that makes sense...which is why I don't think it'll happen. Last year Gamel would perform with the bat and the glove, then sit for 3 days. I hope Gomez goes to AAA soon, although I think a wakeup call to A+ or AA is in line. It worked wonders for Halladay, and frankly Gomez needs some humbling.

Macha wasn't sure how much playing time Cain would get in center field with Carlos Gomez and Jim Edmonds already sharing time there, but he likes having the right-handed bat off the bench since everyone else on it is left-handed unless Gomez or Jonathan Lucroy aren't playing.

"(The Braves) have three lefties in the bullpen, and we know their closer is going to be a lefty (Billy Wagner)," Macha said. "Right now if they got one of those lefties in there, he's got a chance to get in there. There's been days where I've had no right-handed bats on the bench."

Ugh. Certainly doesn't sound like Cain is going to get a lot of playing time.

Who could have predicted this?!?! Shocking!

Maybe Macha can go manage a team in Schroeder's fantasy camp. He wouldn't have to deal with any zim-zammin' youngsters there.
