Mr. Cain goes to Milwaukee (well, technically, to Atlanta); Latest -- Lorenzo sent back to Nashville

Congrats to Cain but this is a little bit odd. Is Gerut's injury really that serious? or is Gomez being sent down to the minors? Hopefully Cain will get a lot of playing time in CF over Edmonds.

Davis is scheduled to start Friday against Pittsburgh; he'll come off the DL that day.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

If its Yo going on the DL to make room for Cain, then this makes perfect sense. We don't need another bullpen arm and the only minor league hitters are Cain, Gamel, and Cruz. Might as well be Cain. He comes up for a cup of tea and then will go down when we activate Davis.

Gallardo wasn't even supposed to see a doctor until today, so I kind of doubt they were planning for his DL stint this far ahead. I think something else is up.

Still, this is a pleasant surprise to see. I hope Cain gets to start at least once. I'd like to see what he looks like out there.

With the All Star break coming up, you could put Gallardo on the DL and have him miss only one start, maybe too. It would also be a good excuse to save him some innings.

Congrats to Cain, lets hope he gets out there and proves he belongs.

Hopefully this is Melvin admitting he completely whiffed in his trade for Carlos Gomez, and Gomez is being sent down, or released. As usual, if it doesn't come from the minor league system, it isn't helping the big club.

Gomez .235/.275/.377/.652 As a Twins fan, i hate to say it, but this might be all Gomez every shows. Cameron looks awful as well this year (saved $$), but Gomez looks awful

Escobar .244/.300/.331/.631 As a Hardy supporter (he's having a crappy season), this was probably the right move (saved $$), but Escobar looks awful so far

Wolf 1.52 WHIP 4.70 ERA looks pretty mediocre so far

Davis 1.98 WHIP 7.56 ERA looks awful

Hawkins 1.96 WHIP 9.26 ERA

Hoffman 1.64 WHIP 8.28 ERA (hard to see that coming after a stellar 08-09)

to be fair, my signings look awful as well...

Ben Sheets 1.47 WHIP 4.98 ERA

Rich Harden 1.68 WHIP 5.68 ERA

in short, i think this shows that free agency is a giant crapshoot. Since you can't always time your draft picks turning it on together, we need to trade for some impact players.

Its time to fire Melvin

Does gomez have options left...If so, send his behind down, and have him learn some plate discipline, and how to bunt....His best moment of the year was on the thursday afternoon game against the Cubs where he scored on the Counsell bunt...He has speed and pop in his bat, but he needs to refine the other parts of his game

There's no reason why Gomez can't be a 4th OF, for pinch-hitting or running (yes, that still exists, pinch running). Could open up double-switch opportunities. He's not completely useless, maybe he just isn't an every day kind of guy. I still like the idea of sending him down and let him try to work things out, but completely giving up on him is unnecessary.

Gomez has two options left. He really needs a wake-up call at Nashville for an extended stay or he'll never apply all the things that coaches have been on him about in his big league days with Minnesota and Milwaukee.

Congrats, Lorenzo!

Its funny that in the last two threads ive looked at youve mentioned nothing about the topic yet put a jab in at Melvin.

I am excited but I really think we need to see the pending move that is sure to happen.

If he rides pine the entire time I think its completely fair to point fingers.
