Dealing with post editor issues in Safari and Chrome

In Webkit-based

browsers, some of Yuku's WYSIWYG editor tools are not available. The result is that some of the buttons, including

those for adding images, are missing. Among the affected browsers are

Safari and Google

Chrome for Mac and Windows. There are three options

for dealing with this issue.

Option 1: Use a

different browser

The WYSIWYG editor works fine in

these

browsers:

  1. Mozilla-based browsers, including

    Firefox,

    SeaMonkey,

    and

    Camino

(It won't work in very old Mozilla

browsers, such as Mozilla Suite and Netscape 7.)

  2. Opera
  3. Internet

    Explorer

6 and above (It won't work in older versions of IE 6.)

Option 2: Use Yuku's BBCode

editor

Yuku's BBCode editor works in

all browsers. It's only available for message boards, though. It isn't

available for composing PMs or when creating

signatures.

To

choose to use the BBCode editor in an unconverted

profile:

  1. Hit

the Account link in the old navigation bar or the wrench icon

    in the new navigation bar.

  2. Hit the Preferences link

    in the

Settings box at the lower left.

  3. Choose BBCode as

    your Editor

Type and hit the Submit button.

To choose to use

the BBCode

editor in a converted profile:

  1. Hit the

    Account link in the

old navigation bar or the wrench icon in the new navigation

    bar.

  2. Hit the Forum link in the submenu near the top

    of the page.

  3. Choose

BBCode as your Editor Type and hit the Save

    button.

Option 3: Spoof your user

agent

Spoofing your user agent "fools" Yuku into

thinking you're using a different browser. If Yuku "thinks" you're using

Firefox, for instance, it'll load the full WYSIWYG editor in most

cases.

Spoofing your user agent

in Safari

Spoofing your user agent in Safari will

cause the full WYSIWYG editor to load when posting on boards, writing

PMs in either type of profile, and creating signatures in either type of

profile. To do this, you must first enable the Develop menu

by:

  1. Choosing

Preferences in the Safari menu (Mac) or in the Settings menu

    (Windows).

  2. Hitting the Advanced

    tab.

  3. Checking

"Show Develop menu in menu bar."

After following

the steps above, you'll see the Develop Menu in your menu bar. In the

User Agent submenu of the Develop menu, choose one of the Firefox

options. This will cause the Firefox post editor to load. This setting

will persist as long as you're in the same window. It'll need to be

re-enabled each time you open a new window. However, you'll only need to

enable the Develop menu once.

Spoofing

your user agent in

Chrome (and other Chromium-based browsers)

Spoofing

your user agent in Chromium-based browsers (e.g. Google Chrome,

SRWare Iron,

Comodo Dragon, and future versions of Flock)

will cause

the full WYSIWYG editor to

load when posting on boards, writing PMs in unconverted profiles, and

creating signatures in unconverted profiles. The full editor won't load

when writing PMs or creating signatures in converted

profiles.

To spoof your user agent in Chromium-based

browsers:

  1. Within your Chromium-based browser, navigate to the

    User-Agent

Switcher for Chrome extension page, and hit the Install

    button on that page.

  2. Choose "Extensions"

    from Chrome's Tools

(wrench/spanner) menu. On Macs, the Tools menu isn't enabled by default,

but "Extensions" is also available in the Window

    menu.

  3. Hit "Options" under "User-Agent

    Switcher for Chrome."

  4. In the Custom Domain List,

type or paste "yuku.com" (no quotes) into the domain

    box.

  5. Choose Firefox from the navigator.userAgent

    popup. (If

you're on a Mac, choose the Windows Firefox string that's

    provided.)

  6. Type or paste

"Mozilla, Inc." (no quotes) into the navigation.vendor

    box.

  7. Hit

    the Add button.

I ran across this tidbit posted by a Yuku staff member in a completely unrelated topic.

I hope they're testing handhelds. WebKit browsers dominate the smartphone market. The only option for those right now is to choose the BBCode editor. As mentioned above, that option only works for posting messages on the boards; the BBCode editor isn't available for sending PMs or editing signatures.
