I thought you could go to 17 w d-leauge guys...that might have been the old rule.

Gooden will be fine, but I agree with you guys; they could have been Ok w/o him. I'm betting he gets flipped after 2 seasons.

I know very little about Dooling. From the little I read he seems to be Ok in the right spots (and not played too much).

D-League assignees count toward the 15. However, some teams with a close relationship with their D-League affiliate will occasionally waive a guy with the agreement that he signs with that team, and then gives him a 10-day contract later if needed. The Rockets and Spurs do this a lot.

Some teams have gone with 16 and had someone play in the D League. Tiny and Hobson would be fine candidates.

In order to keep a player on your D League team you have to sign him and have him count against your 15 man roster. If you don't have him count against your 15 man roster, any team can sign him which would happen.

Brockness Monster is a rebounding machine. Our depth in the front court is ridiculous right now. We should destroy any team's reserves.

I can't believe that I actually agree with every move made by the Bucks this summer. They should be a very strong Skiles team. I don't mind the Gooden signing, he performs and has a reasonable contract. Bogut is prone to bizarre injuries, he is great insurance. If we don't need him, he will be a great tradepiece, as he has been for every other team. I think he will fit in well, and excel in this system. This team really reminds me of the 04 Pistons. No superstar, but a ton of solid players. If the chemistry melds, who knows?

Does it count toward your 15 if they play in Europe? I recall the Mavs having 16 or 17 and Cuban saying he was keeping all of them. I assumed it was the D League.

Not in Europe. You just have to offer a player in Europe their qualifying offer after each season if you want to keep their rights. We did this with Ersan.

If they're not under contract, no. Dallas does hold rights to a couple of guys drafted recently that are playing in Europe (link), so that might be what he was referring to. They also have a direct affiliation with an expansion D-League club, so they may also use the "waive and hope nobody else grabs him first" strategy with a few guys.

edit: oddly, the Bucks still have a rights to a couple of European players that were drafted in the mid-90s. I don't even know if they're still playing.

molitor fan, the nets were 12-70, so they were only 12-51 with him. I like the signing as he was the best free agent point guard remaining. I still think there is one trade Hammond has up his sleeves as there are 16 guaranteed contracts on the team.

I really like the addition of Brockman. The only question mark I still have is Mike Redd. Will he play? If so, what is his role on this team? Is he tradable? If so, what could we get for him/his contract?

Michael Redd is out until at least February, according to the Journal-Sentinel. 80% of his contract is insured as long as he misses at least 41(I think) games, so his expiring, insured contract is very tradeable.

Thanks Yoshi. What would be a good return for him? Draft pick? Will the Bucks deal him this offseason?

I could see Redd being packaged with someone like Ersan (although I hope not) mid season to bring in someone of more value. Redd is clearly not going play for the Bucks again so they might as well trade him rather than have him sit.

The NBA is very, very strict in matching contracts for trades, and draft picks are worth exactly $0 in trades. So, what it comes down to, is, would the Bucks be willing to take on a bad contract + a young guy in exchange for giving the other team a shot at Carmello Anthony next year?

I think they need to sit tight with Redd for now. So many new faces, let's just see how Skiles can bring it all togehter and see what is needed for the 2011-2012 season. If they have another good year this year (hopefully even better) they'll have the cash to spend to round out the team. I just don't think they know what they'll need though until this season plays itself out.

Hopefully, Milwaukee won't be a joke anymore to bigger free agents. IF they can win the division, the Jennings factor, etc. maybe they can target a big time FA. They still have plenty of talented guys with resonable contracts that can be traded after this season as well. Should be fun seeing how it all fits together!

If Redd is traded, we'll need to take a contract back in return. Best case scenario IMO is if somebody desperately wants to make a run for Carmello next summer, and offers a borderline all star on a long term deal at the deadline for Redd's expiring contract. Otherwise, it may be wiser to just let it expire. Either way, I don't think we'll see anything happen this summer.

The idea is to take back existing contracts, of guys that can fit right in and help them to the next level. To a team looking to move players to make a run at a FA, Redd's expiring deal will be tempting.

While that could be an appealing scenario for the Bucks, the problem is that next years potential free agent class is flat out terrible. If Carmelo signs an extension with Denver as many expect him to do, there aren't really any big impact free agents that could be available. The next most appealing player would probably be Al Horford, but he'll be a restricted free agent meaning the Hawks could match any offer and likely would do so. That's partially why so many teams tried to have cap space for this years free agent class. Not only were there a bunch of impact free agents this offseason, GM's knew that the 2011 free agent class would be terrible. This is the 2011 potential free agent class, unrestricted and restricted.

Speaking of the Hawks and Horford, they just signed Johnson to a huge max deal. And as you said danzig they're probably gonna want to keep Horford, who could get the max from someone in a weak fa year like that. That might mean they have to move Josh Smith. I'm not a huge fan of the knucklehead, but I admit he is somewhat intriguing if you can get him for MREC and a pick/prospect. I think the only way they'd unload him is if they were just a borderline playoff team though. Unlikely, but I could see it with so many teams receiving an overhaul this summer.
