Milwaukee Bucks 2010/2011

bullox

I think Howard is kind of a locker room cancer iirc. Plus he's gotta be getting up there. I'd pass.

I like Thornton or Affalo. Either guy would be good additions that still have some upside. Do we even have a MLE to use this year after we gave Gooden one last year?

I will cry if the team brings back Redd.

I'd love either one of Thornton and Afflalo, but I think they will both get pretty big contract offers, and they are both restricted free agents, so I'm not sure we have a realistic chance at either one.

That's the reason why I think they should take a chance on a guy like Howard or Caron Butler, who have shown that they can play at a very high level, and will come a lot cheaper because their coming off injury. I know Howard has made mistakes in the past, but not any huge ones, and he was a key player for years on a very good Mavericks team, and he's only 31 years old.

Yes, we do. You get 1 every 2 years, and the MLE they used on Gooden was year 2 of the cycle.

A full MLE is a huge offer, and we can offer that. The only teams that can beat that are teams well under the cap. There's isn't many teams like that, and those team might instead chase the unrestricted FA centers, or already have a quality shooting guard. Not saying our odds are great, but I think we have a realistic shot.

Im not saying Redd coming back is good or anything, but you could see a situation where it could occur. That would be...odd.

All I know about the 2011-12 roster, is that greater care needs to be paid to putting guys together that "fit". That said, I sort of thought that happend for 2010-11. Shows what I know.

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy, but I really see Delfino making a big leap this season. He seemed poised to last year, but the concussion hit, and then Redd (inexplicably) cut into his minutes (instead of Salmons').

The scorer the Bucks need to add is SG Marcus Thornton. After being dealt to Sacramento last year, Thornton averaged 21 PPG in 27 games, and did it effeciently. He's a high effort player who loves contact, can shoot the 3, he defends, and will only be 24 next year. The best part is that because the Bucks dealt Salmons to the Kings, Sacramento likely won't be willing to match offers to the restricted FA Thornton. The Bucks can use their Mid-Level Exemption to sign Thornton.

I'd also like to add Thornton, but no way at the full MLE.

If you look through basketball over say the last 5-7 years or so, teams/GM's in the vast majority of cases have gotten burned after giving out these type of 4-5 year 25-35ish million dollar deals to largely nothing special at all players and/or career vagabonds. Often the GM's end up regretting the contracts barely after the ink is dry on them and then end up trying to pray some other team will take on the deal, but instead all that ends up happening is teams trading their overpaid spare parts on long term deals for other teams spare parts on long term deals.

It's been the likes of Dan Gadzuric, Drew Gooden, John Salmons, Al Harrington, Josh Childress, Travis Outlaw, Trevor Ariza, Beno Udrih, James Posey, Charlie Villanueva, Mo Peterson, Tyrus Thomas, DeSagana Diop, Marvin Williams, Etan Thomas, Vlad Radmanovic, etc etc. The list just goes on and on of GM's who regret these type of contracts compared to those who saw those contracts work out at least close to what they hoped for.

Hammond just spent the offseason trying to pawn off the mistakes he made in trading for Maggette/his contract and signing aging nothing special players in Salmons and Gooden to 4-5 year deals worth over 30 million dollars. If he does the same in signing Thornton and that type of contract doesn't end up working out as Hammond hoped, he be back at it yet again trying to unload another anchor off the Bucks cap.

unless that statement is just posturing or tricky accounting and/or maybe just true for a few teams. I'm coming around more and more to the idea that the NBA should contract, maybe even including the Bucks.

The problem is the utter lack of revenue sharing in the NBA + local TV deals. Slowly it is heading the way of MLB, and it's going to be there sooner rather than later. Haves and Have-Nots.

Apparently Mark Attanasio has some interest in the Bucks if Kohl decides to sell the team. Not sure how I feel about it, I think Attanasio is a great owner for the Brewers and I worry that having other sporting financial interests might take some of his focus/money from the Brewers. As a casual Bucks fan I realize it would be great for them as Mark A would surely give the team some direction and probably has built up enough goodwill in Milwaukee to make some progress on replacing the Bradley Center.

It's an interesting idea that hasn't been floated previously (at least that I can recall). We have to remember that Attanasio would probably be heading a group to buy the team, just like he is the principal owner, not the sole owner, of the Brewers. My guess is that he would be able to do it in a way that would have virtually no impact on his commitment to the Brewers

I don't think anyone will be buying without an arena deal. In my view, this has the best chance of happening under Kohl because he has some money to kick into it.

Kohl is worth less than $300 million. New arenas cost $200 million minimum. The only way Kohl contributes money is if he sells the team to someone like Attanasio for $250-300 million and uses that money to pay for some or all of a new arena.

while it would be nice for Attanasio to buy the bucks because it would be a lock for the team to stay, i'd rather have him just focus on the brewers. The bucks have been a money loosing team for years and I'd rather have Mark focus on using his resources to improve the brewers since i'm a bigger baseball fan.

The problem with the bucks is that Kohl has given the public no indication what will happen to the team when he dies since he has no children or wife to pass the team on to. I don't see any scenario where the state will help the bucks get an arena, so unless Kohl buys one, i don't know how its going to get done.
