Milwaukee Bucks 2010/2011

bullox

I think Jennings is fine but see the criticisms, he won't be great, but with a better team I think his efficiency numbers and assists would look a whole lot better, too often he is forced to carry the offense.

The Bucks are what happens when you run a sports team as a PR organization. The Packers are what happens when you make decisions to win regardless of the PR. Strangely, one of these teams is infinitely more popular, winning makes it's own PR.

His efficiency wouldn't improve on another team. I don't see how another team is going to stop him from dribbling for 15 seconds, fake a drive to the hoop and then step back off balance on a 20 foot jumper.

The worst part about Jennings is he's at his most efficient when he's getting kick outs and shooting. When he's playing along side Dooling and is almost moved to shooting guard. Not what you want to see from a PG at all.

That brings out a good point Baldkin. He's actually a decent shooter when he's set. Off the dribble or fading away? Broke.

Between that and his piss poor vision, I'm not sure the guy's even a pg. I mean, he dominates the ball enough, but how often does the guy get his teammates an easy bucket? Probably once every couple games.

Jennings is only 21 and missed a big chunk of the season. I would give him one more year to prove himself.

I'm fine with giving him another year given the Bucks are nowhere close to being a good team, but i'd also have no problem with the Bucks drafting a PG with their first round pick. My concerns with Jennings are.

1. Even though he's only 21, this is back to back years of him shooting below 40 percent from the field. That's abysmal and even if he improves some, it's hard to envision him ever shooting a good percentage.

2. For as bad of a shooter he is, Brandon seems oblivious to that fact and has averaged nearly 15 shots per game in both seasons.

3. His best skill as a player is his quickness. Yet, that quickness is largely wasted because while Brandon can often beat his man off the dribble if he wants to and get into the paint, he's terrible at finishing around the rim and he rarely ever passes to a teammate after he gets into the paint for an easy shot. Unlike other quality point guards who use dribble penetration as much for a chance to pass to open teammates as help defense converges as they do to shoot themselves, Jennings either lacks the court vision to pass out of dribble penetration or he's selfish by wanting to score. My guess is it's more the lack of court vision.

4. I'm all for wanting players to have confidence in themselves and early last year i loved his swagger, but as it's become clear that Jennings isn't anywhere near as good as i hoped he'd be after that great start to his career, Brandon sure seems to still believe he's close to being an All-Star caliber player. That fabulous first 15-20 games of his rookie year seems to have made him think he's better than he really is because outside of those first 15-20 games, he's spent the rest of the time as a very inefficient point guard.

Jennings improved a lot at his finishing this year. It's still not good, but it's better than horrible. If he does that again next season, he could become a much better point guard.

My biggest issue with him, is, it seems like he has absolutely no idea how to run a pick and roll. Its a waste on the team for them to run it. All the big has to do is show a double team and Jennings dribbles out to half court and resets, 8 seconds of the shot clock are gone. He needs to learn to attack the big when he shows, or gain the court vision to get the ball back to the guy rolling to the rim. Right now he does neither. I don't understand why it's part of the Bucks offense against good defensive teams.

boy, watching Redd tonight is a nice reminder of why I'll be glad when he's gone. Force up a fading covered jump shot from 13 instead of making an easy quick for a wide open Illaysova 3, standing around the three point line waving for a pass. I've seen few players who seem to be a good guy off the court be such a tool on it.

I would definitely say he disappointed me this season. I thought for sure he would go in during the summer and hoist up 1,000 shots a day and get better, and then he didn't.

I dunno. His shot is fine imo. It's just his shot selection.

Once again, I agree with ya baldkin. He never, ever finds the roller from the pick n roll. Seriously, you could count on two hands the times he's found his screener rolling to the basket for an easy look.

Basically he sucks at everything and our hope is he improves because he's young. Yikes. I'm sure Hambone is glad he decided he was his other main building block next to Bogut.

To me Jennings' biggest area of improvement is to recognize that he does in fact have a right hand and that it can be used to make basketball plays. I swear to god he gets more layups blocked because he only finishes with his left (even on the right side of the rim), it also prevents him from driving right because he always has to come back left (and when that is cut off his only options are fade away long 2s). Really, if he figured this out and also how to set spacing and angles on pick and roll (as elucidated above) he could be a much more efficient player. Hopefully this year humbled him and he'll put in the work.

To say Jennings sucks at everything and that he is a d league level player is just over the top, shock job radio host ridiculous. He has been inconsistent so far, but at 21, he has led his not very talented team to the playoffs, and probably would have done it again if Delfino, Bogut, Ersan and him weren't hurt for large portions of the season.

Well I think the real reason we went to the playoffs last year was Salmons came aboard for the last 30 games and played at a Dwayne Wade level. As someone else pointed out, Jennings was pretty poor after that first 10-15 game hot streak. Also a big part of that team's success was having Ridnour being able to close out games when Jennings was trash.

Like I said, I'm fine with giving Jennings another shot this year. TBH he probably shouldn't have even played after this foot injury. In true Bucks fashion, they rushed him back about 40-50 days early. And it's not like the Bucks are on the cusp of contending and need to replace him with a solid veteran. But right now, I'd say he's below avg at everything besides defense. He's def a bottom 5 starting pg right now.

I think this season was a big disapointment, but I put a large amount of the blame on injuries. Only 3 guys on the team played more than 70 games (Dooling 80, LRMBM 79, Salmons 73). You cannot win with an inconsistent lineup in this league. The starting PG was out 20 games, the starting SF was out 32 games, the starting PF/C was out 50 games, the starting C was out 20 games, the main backup PF/C was out 20 games, you just can't win with numbers like that. It all started in training camp when Salmons was out a while, as well as CDR with the eye issue and just kept getting worse during the season.

However, a few non-injury related issues really bothered me during the season.

I don't understand how Dooling was getting the backup SG minutes over CDR. CDR was exactly what this team needed in the second unit coming off of the bench, and I'm going to be mad to see him go after this year. Also, when Jennings was back, there was no reason to have Dooling and Boykins on the floor at the same time, and I felt like it happened in most games, and I'd turn the channel because there's no reason for that to happen.

The team really needs a true backup C. With Bogut missing games every year, there's even more of a reliance to having a quality backup C on this team.

I really feel the team had too many guys to play too few minutes, I posted this before the season even started, and with the injuries occuring, there was never a flow to the team and no one ever knew their roles, unlike last year's team.

Over the last 10 games, why oh why was Redd getting minutes over CDR? That just baffles me.

If this team gets healthy for next year (which it should, as long as Bogut's recovery from surgery goes well), I think a starting 5 of Jennings - Salmons - Delfino - Gooden - Bogut can really compete in the East next year. I really think Jennings is the weakest link on that unit though and he really needs to pick it up ( I won't rehash any more of the Jennings debate). The main question to me becomes, what role do the bench players have then? I honestly would rather see LRMBM start, maybe over Gooden? The team just seems to play so much better when he's on the floor.

Dooling - ? - ?/Maggette - Ersan - Gooden as the next 5 off of the bench? But then what do you do with Sanders? He really needs to get some PT next year.

The team has a lot of really solid players, but no real superstars, and no real defined roles as of right now, except for Jennings, Salmons, Delfino, and Bogut. I think the big need this offseason is fitting all the pieces in the right places.

I really like Ersan as a player, but I feel like he might be more valueable to the team as a trade chip.

If the starting 5 would be Jennings, Salmons, Delfino, LRMBM, Bogut, the second 5 Dooling, SG, SF, Gooden, Sanders. Where does Ersan fit in? And where does the 2011 first round pick fit in?

Jennings is basically a d league level player

I think this kind of discredits any other substance you are bringing to the table. Just saying something over the top doesn't make it true.

It was a tough year for the Bucks...no doubt. I wonder what a 100% healthy Bogut does for Jennings as well. Seems like teams could gear up against him when they wanted and really didn't have to worry about getting beat elsewhere.

I do like some of the moves the Bucks have done. They just seem to always sign one or two silly deals that hold the team back and aren't good enough at drafting the right players. That is not a good equation. I'm willing to say this team struggled this year to a certain extent because of injuries, but the roster once again needs to be looked at.

I know it's not a major issue, but I wish we would have kept Meeks. He is cheap and would be one of our best shooters on the team. Trading away chips like that for next to nothing and then over spending does not lead to success. It seems that after last year's run Hammond was given whatever he wanted. I liked him after last season, but didn't get some of the moves he made. They weren't back brackers, but you can't miss in trades, free agency, and the draft and be competitive. If you miss on one or even two once in awhile you might make it.

I thought the Bucks had a steal when they got Meeks in the second round. But if you look back at the thread from last season you will see plenty of people who said he sucks and the Bucks shouldn't have drafted him. You have to give a guy more than a year or two.

On that subject, no reason to think that a 21-year-old can't improve. An interesting comparison to Jennings is Iverson, especially when you look at shooting percentages. Interesting that even though Jennings 3-point % was down this year, it was still higher than Iverson's 3-point career average. Jennings overall shooting % improved this season (even if his 3-point % went down) and his turnovers/game slightly decreased. His rebounding and fouls/game slightly improved as well. Considering he was hurt for a good chunk of the season, that's a good sign.

Not sure if this should be a new thread, as I guess this applies to next season. But the Bucks didn't move in the lottery last night and will be picking 10th overall. This draft is pretty weak in general, and the Bucks have a histroy of blowing lottery picks...that being said, I'm hoping for one of the Morris brothers out of Kansas. At least to give us some semblence of a low post game, though I don't think either is going to be an all-star.

No real loss in not moving up, on paper, this has to be one of the worst drafts of all time.

I would rather see the Bucks go after someone who can score on the perimeter. The Bucks really need a SG or a SF that can shoot well. Only player that I could see available for the Bucks would be Alec Burks. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bucks take Tristan Thompson or Jordan Hamilton.

I like Alec Burks, wouldn't mind seeing him. The Morris brothers wouldn't be bad, but I agree, not All-Stars. Should be solid though. Wolves want to trade out of the #2. See if Hammond can be the latest beneficiary of a Kahn robbery, he wants Veterans. We have plenty. Give him his choice of our wasted money, and the 10 for the chance to draft Williams out of Arizona. I really like him. In any other league, I would say that would be impossible, but the NBA GMs consistently amaze me with their awful dealing. Maggette and the 10?

The Bucks really need someone who can shoot either it be from off the bench or starting so Alec Burks makes some sense with the #10 pick. Burks though needs to work on his shooting but he is very athletic and can drive to the basket. But I think the Bucks could work out a trade with Minnesota. But there is a problem with your trade Minnesota would have to trade over two players in order to fit Maggette into the salary cap. A more realist trade would be Beasley and the #2 for the Bucks #10 pick, 2nd round pick, and Gooden that would fit with the cap. I think the Bucks would have to add in their 1st round for next year instead of the 2nd round pick this year for that to work and if the Bucks trade down they should take Brandon Knight with the #2 pick. Derrick Williams might be the better pick at that spot for the Bucks.

I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit or Toronto make a trade with Minnesota for the #2 pick.
