Milwaukee Bucks 2010/2011

The Bucks have put together this little run because of their depth. The bench dominates one game, then the bench disappears the next game and the starters step up. Two or three key guys are out or off every game (last night: Delfino out, Bogut offensively and Maggette off) and they win on defense and a couple of other guys just putting together good games by their standards (last night: Salmons, Jennings, and Gooden, plus Bogut defensively). I'm not saying that this approach will beat the Lakers, or that it's enough to move them forward in the playoffs; clearly they have to put together more offense. But I'm pretty comfortable saying that their lousy start was the result of the inability to get a bunch of new players integrated in camp because of all the injuries. They have had to learn together on the fly, and right now they're doing a remarkable job.

I've absolutely loved what Hammond has done with this team, other than the fact of not acquiring a true backup center and that has really come back to haunt them.

I actually like most everyone on the team and can't think of anyone I'd be really happy to see go. With that being said, Jennings, Dooling, and Boykins need to stay as the 3 pg's.

Bogut and Brockman need to stay. Sanders looks like he should be very good in a couple of years. Just gave the contracts to Salmons and Gooden, so I don't see them leaving.

That leaves Delfino, CDR, Magette, LRMBM, Ilyasova, Redd and Hobson.

I really think he needs to make a deal of one of these last 7 guys I mentioned for a backup center, and I'd really prefer it being Redd. All of the injuries in the pre-season sure have killed them, as the team just doesn't look to click right now, as everyone is getting used to playing with each other. The talent is there I believe, and possibly too much talent as it's hard to get guys the minutes they should be getting, but it sure does help in the case of injuries, but they just need that backup center (and not one that's 6'7) with Bogut being injured.

Big win @ Dallas tonight. Team seems to be playing much better of late.

Gooden played down the stretch and made several key stops/rebounds. Ersan is a nice role player, but rarely plays at the end of games. You can take that however you wish, but it's noticeable. Dooling also got key minutes. Keyon is always a fine defender, but is a key player when he is hitting the outside shot, because he's big enough to play the 2, and Salmons moves to the 3. With Delfino out, they've needed someone to step up.

Did you even watch the game? Ersan made a great pass to Bogut, got a great pass from Bogut and nailed a 3 down the stretch while also playing good defense on Dirk. Gooden had his ass glued to the bench where it belonged until Bogut fouled out and Gooden failed to grab a rebound that gave the Mavs another possession with the oppurtunity to tie it.

"Nothing shows ignorance of basketball more than not liking Tim Jarmusz. He's not much of a scorer, but he does everything else on the court well.

Of course, most folks don't get the fact that good defense is far more fun to watch than a 110-98 game." - Al's Ramblings

This made me lol when I read it.

Dirk was 7-10 against Gooden last night. Drew defended him well on a couple tough shots Dirk still made because he's unreal, but overall Ersan defended him much better. And as twri pointed out, Ersan was instrumental in the comeback last night and played down the stretch, while Gooden did not. He also committed a terrible clear path foul that resulted in a 4 pt possession.

Its difficult not to see that somehow despite having the ability to average nearly a double-double, Gooden does so many things poorly that he manages to negate that and then some. He has his nights (usually at the expense of the rest of the team); but all in all, he is terrible. We'd be so much better off with a Sanders/Ersan rotation with a little bit of LRMAM mixed in.

I guess we always have to have someone I can't stand under a large, long contract. Its going to be a long 4 years.

Bogut may be out with another migraine. Dude, get a CAT scan.

That last play is why it's so hard to get into the NBA. All three refs looking at Ginobili take 2 steps and then jump backwards and not one of them calls a travel. It's why I watch the NHL over the NBA whenever I get the chance.

I used to be a huge NBA fan. I couldn't name one player from each team now, and "now" has been really at least the past five seasons. There's no appeal to me at all (beyond the Bucks of course).
