Brewers in Cliff Lee sweepstakes?

It's one thing to say the Yankees throwing gobs of money at top free agents is bad for baseball, but it's another to say it when they're acquiring players via trade. I still don't think Lee improves their (significantly high) chances of repeating as champs, but if they're willing to give up more in a trade than another team, I don't feel comfortable playing the "bad for baseball" card. How is it the Yankees' fault that the Mariners find Jesus Montero more appealing than Minnesota's Wilson Ramos?

I disagree that this is a dumb move for the Yankees. Let's keep in mind they aren't running away with their division (yet). Anything can happen in the playoffs, but acquiring Lee allows them more room for error, like naivin pointed out. And it's not like they need to worry about prospects that much at this juncture.

If I'm not mistaken, Andy Pettitte is a free agent after this season; so they could let him go and re-sign Lee instead.

The Crew should inquire about Smoak from the Mariners. They have Ackley who has played 1st base so we could send them Lawrie. Or perhaps send them Prince for Smoaks and pitching???

The Brewers don't need a 1B, we already have 1Bs playing 3B, 2B, LF and RF. The Brewers should be looking for pitchers and RFs.
