July 1st Standings

Bombers

Take a look at 2009 (* denotes wild card, bold division winner) and then take a look at July 1 this year. Hard to believe the Brewers were in 1st place at July 1st last year and completely fell on their face. Which team do you think will tank it and fall out of the race this year.

So every division or wildcard winner was either in 1st place or within 3 games of 1st place or the wildcard on July 1st.

Same thing as 2008. Every division or wildcard winner was within 2.5 games of 1st place or the wildcard on July 1st.

Sell.

I doubt Cincy or the Padres make it to the playoffs. If I was a Texas or Minnesota fan I'd be very sceered. Both teams have played well but they each have a team breathing down their necks. Texas was hot (21-6) in June, but the Angels went 18-9. Twins were pretty cold at 12-15. I think the Tigers will make it a fight.

The Reds will probably get Volquez back in August sometime. Iirc that's when he was scheduled to get back from his surgery. Does his suspension kick in once he's back active on the 25-man roster, or what? If they get him even for just part of September & he's himself, that's a huge addition for them.

EDIT: Annnnd, nope. He's basically ready to come back now. Via Rotoworld, he's making one more rehab start on Sunday, and will basically be ready to rock after that:

Edinson Volquez (elbow) is scheduled to make his next and possibly final minor league rehab start for Triple-A Louisville on Sunday.

"He'll start Sunday, and then we'll re-evaluate whether he makes another start there or for us," said Reds general manager Walt Jocketty. If the Reds deem him ready, he would likely start against the Phillies next weekend. We've heard nothing but good things about his rehab, so stash him while you still can.

Brewers are 37-44 after the first half of the season. In order to really have a good shot at the wild card they have to go 53-28 in the second half which is a .654 winning percentage. No trade the team can make will realistically put them in the playoff hunt. They have to just pray to get really lucky/hot and have a 12 game winning streak or something to have a chance at sniffing the playoffs. The first half they just played too poorly to overcome most likely.
