Who should Davis replace?

I think the argument against Bush can be boiled down to this: Depending on the numbers you look at, Bush seems to be a somewhat average option for a 4/5 pitcher. However, his career numbers, as well as more advanced stats (particularly FIP and xFIP) indicate that he's probably not as good as he has appeared, thus far.
But isn't this true for Davis as well? He has always defied his peripherals. His career B/9ip is higher than Bush's this year. His career K:BB ratio is a measly 1.65, while Bush's is 2.64. Bush's career ERA is 4.65, Davis' 4.37. They are comparable pitchers with similar careers. The differences are Bush is 4 years younger and has had good results this year.

I agree you can make the argument he's probably not as good as he's appeared when looking at predictive stats, but you could have made that argument about Davis at any time in his career.

My real feelings on Bush and Davis is that they are both pretty average-ish starters. Just one is a righty and the other a leftie. As far as which one is really better than the other, I guess people can take their pick. It's mostly a wash, IMHO. Neither is a guy the rotation should be built around or should be expected to be a long term solution for the club after this season.
