Yours truly will be offline until the late night and BK is still fighting extradition (we've hired an outstanding legal team for him http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif), so should anyone stumble upon additional links, transaction news, etc., today, feel free to place the update in the appropriate thread on this forum.

TC07 will handle the majority of the duties this evening -- until next time, go Crew (all of them)!

Got to my first t-rats game of the year tonight wanted to see Odorizzi before the promotion and came away very impressed. He didn't have a whole lot of hard hit balls all night and didn't really have work deep into the count at all.

Final: Wisconsin 11, Burlington (Royals) 7

Odorizzi K's 10; Rattlers beat Bees 11-7

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Jake

Odorizzi and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers offense were firing on all cylinders

on Saturday night at Time Warner Cable Field.

Odorizzi struck out a career-high ten batters over six scoreless frames

and earned his fourth win of the season. Chris

Dennis and Khris Davis both homered for the Rattlers as they raced to an 11-0

lead. The Rattlers held on to top

Burlington 11-7 for their fourth straight win.

Wisconsin (28-42 overall, 2-0

second half) gave Odorizzi a comfortable lead in the bottom of the third inning.

Scooter Gennett drove in three runs with a bases loaded double to right.

Kentrail Davis knocked in Gennett with an infield grounder for a 4-0

lead.

Odorizzi poured it on over his

next three innings of work. The

right-hander struck out two batters in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to

run his total to ten for the game. He

allowed four hits and did not walk a batter.

The Rattler offense made the

score 10-0 with a six-run sixth inning. Davis

knocked in the first run with a double. He

would score on an RBI single by Cameron Garfield.

The third run of the frame scored on a passed ball with the bases loaded.

The next pitch was to Dennis and he launched a three-run homer to center.

Dennis's seventh homer of the season put the Rattlers up ten.

Khris Davis lined a homer to

left with one out in the top of the seventh and the Rattlers had a very

comfortable 11-0 lead.

But, Burlington (22-49, 0-2)

made it interesting in their final two at bats.

Carlo Testa broke up the shutout with an RBI fielder's choice.

Rene Oriental doubled in two runs and the Bees cut into the Rattler lead

against reliever Matt Costello.

Andy Sauter got the first two

outs of the top of the ninth inning. He

had a runner at first and got JD Alfaro to pop out.

But, the ball dropped in for a double.

A walk on a close 3-2 pitch loaded the bases.

Then, Joey Lewis doubled to right and knocked in three runs.

Testa followed with another double to get the Bees to within 11-7.

Sauter got the final out on a fly ball to right.

Sunday is a Brewers

Sunday presented by 107.5 The Fan. Timber

Rattlers players will be wearing jerseys and caps based on those of the 1982

Milwaukee Brewers. Plus, the first

1,000 fans into the stadium will receive a Timber Rattlers Rally Towel courtesy

of US Cellular. Fans may play catch on the field before the game.

There is also a post-game autograph session with the players.

Additionally, Time Warner Cable subscribers may bring in their bill and receive

up to four half priced reserve seat tickets.

Del Howell (0-2, 6.08) is the

scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.

Burlington sends Sugar Ray Marimon (1-1, 13.50) to the hill.

Game time is 1:05pm. If you

can't make it to the stadium, you may tune into the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM

or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 12:45pm.

LP: Keaton Hayenga (1-6)

Wisconsin Boxscore

It's always fun when one of our top pitching prospects is just flat out dominant, thank you Jake Odorizzi! I'm digging this WI rotation right now. Thankfully the offense built up that 11 run lead because Matt Costello and Andy Sauter sure struggled in relief. The boxscore isn't matching up, the line score has the WI with 11 hits, but when you add them up in the box only 8 are showing. Hopefully that issue corrects itself over night.

Final, (11 Innings): Brevard County 4, Lakeland (Tigers) 3

Brevard County wins on wild pitch in the 11th

VIERA - With a full moon in the sky,

it was déjà vu for the Brevard County Manatees and the Lakeland Flying

Tigers on Saturday night as for the second straight night, the Manatees

won in walk-off fashion in the 11th inning, 4-3.

For the second straight night, Lakeland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in

the first inning against Manatees starter Michael Fiers. Fiers would

settle in and not allow a run in his last five innings of work as he

threw six innings and struck out five.

Flying Tigers starter Brayan Villarreal kept Brevard County in check

for five shutout innings as he allowed just two hits, while walking one

and striking out seven. Lakeland then dipped into their bullpen and the

Manatees jumped on Robert Waite in the sixth to score two runs.

A one-out double by Erik Komatsu drove in Josh Prince, who led

off the inning with a single and Matt Cline scored on a ground out by

Angel Salome.

Lakeland looked like it would get the go-ahead run in the eighth on

a two-out double by Brent Wyatt to right, as Billy Nowlin tried to

score from first, but he was gunned down on a perfect relay throw from

Scott Krieger to Cline to Shawn Zarraga, who stuck his leg out and

blocked the plate perfectly and tagged out Nowlin at home.

Corey Frerichs, who replaced Fiers on the hill in the seventh, had

kept Lakeland off the board until the ninth as Carmelo Jaime's two-out

single to right gave the Flying Tigers a 3-2 lead. The Manatees though

would counter with a two-out RBI single of their own by Zarraga that

sent the game into extras for the second straight night.

Ruben Flores came in the game in the tenth and gave up a lead-off

single to Brandon Douglas, but then got out of that jam in a hurry as

Nowlin lined into a 6-3 double play.

In the bottom of the 11th, Sean Halton ripped the first pitch he saw

to left field to lead-off the inning with a single. Juan Sanchez then

laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Halton to second. Krieger

then grounded out to second as Halton moved to third.

Lakeland then decided to intentionally walk Zarraga, but the

decision backfired in a big way as Erik Crichton's first pitch sailed

to the backstop as Halton raced home to score the winning run.

Komatsu and Halton had two hits each as Flores got the win in relief

as he threw two scoreless innings. The win puts the Manatees record in

the second half of the season to 2-1

With a six-game homestand finished, the Manatees will open up a

four-game set with the Daytona Cubs beginning on Sunday evening at 5:35

p.m. in Daytona Beach. Sunday and Tuesday's games will be played at

Jackie Robinson Ballpark and Monday and Wednesday's games will be

played at Space Coast Stadium in Viera.

Brevard County Boxscore

No this is not a repeat and I did not mix up the boxscores, I too had to double and triple check to make sure the Manatees walked off in the 11th inning again tonight. The only thing better than a walk off win, or 2 walk off wins in a row, is a walk off win against a Cubs affiliate, but we'll take what we can get. Mike Fiers was effective giving up 2 ER in 6 IP while walking 2 and striking out 5. Corey Frerichs pitched the next 3 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 2 Ks. Ruben Flores gets the win pitching the final 2 innings. Sean Halton and Erik Komatsu had 2 hits a piece, and Komatsu and Brock Kjeldgaard each doubled. Josh Prince stole his 20th base of the season and Kjeldgaard committed his 5th error.

Brevard Countty Recap

Mike had a tough 1st, not helped by his defense.

Lakeland Top 1st

  • Gustavo Nunez singles on a ground ball to right fielder Scott Krieger.
  • Brandon
Douglas doubles (2) on a line drive to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard.
Gustavo Nunez scores. Fielding error by left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard.
  • Billy Nowlin singles on a ground ball to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Brandon Douglas to 3rd.
  • Jordan
Lennerton grounds into double play, shortstop Josh Prince to second
baseman Matt Cline to first baseman Sean Halton. Brandon Douglas
scores. Billy Nowlin out at 2nd.
  • Brent Wyatt called out on strikes.

The game winning rally.

Brevard County Bottom 11th

  • Sean Halton singles on a ground ball to left fielder Brent Wyatt.
  • Juan Sanchez out on a sacrifice bunt, first baseman Jordan Lennerton to second baseman Brandon Douglas. Sean Halton to 2nd.
  • Scott Krieger grounds out, second baseman Brandon Douglas to first baseman Jordan Lennerton. Sean Halton to 3rd.

Final: Helena 10, Great Falls (White Sox) 3

Helena Boxscore

Another pitching performance and more runs given up in the first inning, though none were earned this time around. Tyler Cravy went 6 IP, all 3 runs, 1 earned, while walking 1 and striking out 2. Rob Currie and Brian Garman were stellar to close out the game, neither pitcher allowed a hit. Offensively the first hit of the game was a double by Reggie Keen, the last 2 hits were doubles by Cody Hawn and Greg Hopkins, the 18 hits between those 3 doubles were all singles. That's right link report readers, the H-Crew pounded out 21 hits tonight against Great Falls, another fun game to listen to this evening. Every player in the lineup had at least one hit, only the 7-9 batters didn't have multiple hits. Greg Hopkins was 5-6 to lead the charge (Mass has to be lovin his season thus far). Cody Hawn, Michael Walker, and Sean Vucinich had 3 hits a piece. The defense did commit 3 errors but Keen had at OF assist on the evening as well.

Helena Recap

No monster inning, just solid offense all the way throughout the game.

Here's Tyler Cravy's 1st where he hurt himself with his own error.

Great Falls Bottom 1st

  • Dusty Harvard reaches on fielding error by third baseman Michael Walker.
  • Ross Wilson reaches on force attempt, throwing error by pitcher Tyler Cravy. Dusty Harvard to 2nd.
  • Juan Silverio doubles (4) on a line drive to left fielder John Dishon. Dusty Harvard scores. Ross Wilson to 3rd.
  • Leighton
Pangilinan grounds out, shortstop Shea Vucinich to first baseman Cody
Hawn. Ross Wilson scores. Juan Silverio to 3rd.
  • Ryan Hamme pops out to third baseman Michael Walker.
  • Robert Vaughn strikes out swinging.

Suspended, top of the 4th: Round Rock (Astros) 1, Nashville 0

Sounds Game Suspended Due To Rain

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Saturday evening's Pacific Coast League contest

between the Nashville Sounds and Round Rock Express was suspended due

to heavy rainfall in the middle of the fourth inning on Saturday

evening at historic Greer Stadium.

Round Rock held a 1-0 lead at the time of suspension, which came following a 33-minute rain delay.

The Express scored the game's only run in the top of the fourth

when Wladimir Sutil led off the frame with a single and later came

plateward on Tommy Everidge's two-out double down the right field line

off Nashville starter Chuck Lofgren.

The game will be resumed at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday evening and

completed to its nine-inning entirety. Sunday's regularly-scheduled

game between the Sounds and Express will be a seven-inning affair that

will begin approximately 30 minutes after the first contest.

Left-hander Chase Wright (6-3, 3.79) is scheduled to start that contest

for Nashville. Round Rock has not announced its starter.

Final: Jacksonville (Marlins) 8, Huntsville 7

Huntsville Boxscore

I know this is a shocker, but another game and more runs allowed in the first inning. Remember when it was fun to follow a Chris Cody line in the boxscores? I wonder if they made a mechanical change to his delivery or he's pitching hurt because he's just never pitched this bad before. Chris gave up 7 runs in 3.1 IP, on 7 hits, 3 walks, and 1 strike out. Eddie Morlan was charged with a run in 1.1 IP, while Nick Green and Donovan Hand kept Jacksonville of the board. Brett Lawrie once again led the charge offensively going 3-5 with a 2B. Lorenzo Cain was 1-2 with a double and 2 walks, and Taylor Green was 2-4 with a 2B. If Cain doesn't get promoted soon I'm going to have to update my sig, this is ridiculous. The Stars committed 4 errors, 2 in the outfield, which certainly didn't help the pitching.

Huntsville Recap

Cody's 1st and 4th innings, Morlan didn't pickup Cody in the 4th. Free bases on BB, HBP, and Es hurt the Stars in both innings.

Suns break out offensively in 8-7 marathon victory

By Jeff Elliott, Jacksonville.com

When power-hitting outfielder Mike Stanton was promoted to the Florida Marlins the first week in June, it changed the way the Jacksonville Suns approached games.

Instead of winning games with a lot of offense, the Suns have relied on solid pitching and sound defense. Saturday they departed from that concept as they unleashed an 11-hit attack in edging the Huntsville Stars 8-7 in front of 4,446 at the Baseball Grounds.

Most of the crowd had departed the ballpark by the time the Suns finished with their third win in five games against the Stars. With a rain delay of two hours before the first pitch and a game that took more than 3 ½ hours to complete, the Suns recorded the last out at 12:57 a.m.

The game took on such a late feeling that in the last couple innings, neither team threw the ball around the infield after recording an out with no one on base. They simply threw the ball back to the pitcher with the intent of completing the inning as soon as possible.

In the 54 games that Stanton was with Jacksonville this year, the Suns scored at least seven runs on 16 occasions, once every 3.4 games. But since Stanton's departure 20 games ago, Jacksonville has managed to record seven runs in a game just twice before Saturday.

"We've had to change our approach and go for more small ball," Suns manager Tim Leiper said. "Our pitching has been outstanding lately and the guys are getting it done in the field as well. Mike drove in a lot of runs and hit a number of home runs [21] when he was here. We don't have anyone who can single-handedly take up that slack, so we've had to find other means to win games."

What the Suns found Saturday was a balanced attack in which seven players had at least one hit and five drove in at least one run. Vinny Rottino, Lee Mitchell and Greg Burns all had a pair of hits. Rottino also drove in three runs.

Even with the late finish, it wasn't the latest that Rottino had played in a minor league game.

"When I was with the Nashville Sounds in Triple-A a couple years ago, we played a 22-inning game that was called at 2:30 in the morning because they wouldn't start another inning after that time," Rottino said. "We finished the game the next day.

"I don't think this game tonight will take anything out of us. It only went nine innings; it just started later."

Rottino, who appears to have locked down the cleanup spot in the batting order since Stanton's departure, said opponents have looked at the Suns in a different light now that their former teammate is wearing a Florida Marlins jersey.

"With Mike being in our lineup, pitchers had a lot more pressure on them knowing that Mike was coming up in the order," Rottino said. "Mike put up some ridiculous numbers in the time he was here. Now we're going to be a team that takes the extra base. We've got to. We've got to play smart on the bases and steal bags when we can.

"Whereas before, we played a little less like that because we knew Mike was coming up. You didn't want to make an out on the bases because then Mike would come up as quick. We're going to be a team now that bunts more, hit-and-runs and just takes more chances on the bases."

After Huntsville (2-3 in the second half, 35-40 overall) scored four runs in one-third of an inning against Suns starter Jay Buente -- who was removed from the game because of an undisclosed injury -- the Suns (3-2, 42-32) responded by scoring the game's next eight runs over five innings.

They broke it open with five runs in the fourth, with Rottino delivering the key hit, a two-run double to drive home the final two runs of the inning.

Those two runs proved to be vital after the visitors scored single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to cut the deficit to a single run. They had the tying run on second in the ninth when new Suns closer Juan Marinex struck out Sean McCraw to end the game.

Saturday night was the third time this season that the Suns had gone head-to-head with the Jacksonville Sharks across the street. The Sharks play their games at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Coliseum adjacent to the Baseball Grounds. The Suns were at a disadvantage this time as a heavy downpour hit the sports complex just after 7 p.m., the starting time for both games.

While the Suns waited out a 2-hour, 15-minute delay to start the game at 9:20, Sharks fans started filing out of the arena when the Sharks fell behind the Arizona Rattlers by three touchdowns. (The Sharks lost for the first time at home this season, 66-50.) As they left, Suns front-office personnel and members of the Sun Beams -- the Suns dance team/marketing assistants -- urged them to come into the game at no cost. Several fans took advantage of the offer.

Jacksonville and Huntsville wrap up their six-game series Sunday at 3:05 PM (2:05 Central). The starting pitchers from Game 1 in the series, Suns right-hander Elih Villanueva (6-4, 2.63) and Huntsville righty Michael Bowman (7-5, 5.51) - are scheduled to pitch.

Brewers stop Voyager winning streak

By MIKE TOWNE, Great Falls Tribune Sports Writer

It didn't take long Saturday night for the Helena Brewers to show they were in a mood to hit.

Reggie Keen doubled to left field on the first pitch by Charles Delk, igniting a 21-hit attack that resulted in a 10-3 victory over the Great Falls Voyagers.

Helena lashed out 14 hits — 13 fell for singles — in the first four innings to build a 7-3 lead. Two runs in the second broke a 2-2 deadlock and gave the Brewers the lead for good.

A trio of Helena pitchers limited Great Falls to four hits, just one over the final five frames. The Voyagers had scored 27 runs on 49 hits in their previous four games, all wins. They collected 13 hits in a 10-4 victory over the Brewers in their home-opening game Friday night.

The win before 3,134 fans at Centene Stadium boosted the Brewers to 5-1, good for a one-game lead over the Voyagers in the Northern Division of the Pioneer League.

"We're going to lose some games, obviously," Great Falls manager Chris Cron said afterward. "You have to tip your hat to Helena. They put the ball in play and found a lot of holes. That's baseball.

"We have to pick ourselves up and be ready to go tomorrow (Sunday)," he added. "We're going to be fine. It's just one game. We have to bounce back and win the series."

All nine players in the Helena lineup had one or more hits. Greg Hopkins, batting in the No. 4 spot, led the onslaught with a 5-for-6 effort that included four singles and a ninth-inning double that plated Cody Hawn for his fourth RBI.

Mike Walker, Shea Vucinich and Hawn finished with three hits apiece, and Keen and Franklin Romero had two each. Keen scored three runs and Vucinich had a pair of RBIs.

"(The Brewers) were aggressive. They weren't shy about swinging the bats," Cron said. "They had their hitting shoes on from the git-go."

Following his game-opening double, Keen scooted to third on a sacrifice bunt by Romero. He scored when Hopkins slapped a single to right.

Walker singled up the middle and Vucinich followed with a run-scoring base hit to make it 2-0.

Great Falls tied it up in its half of the first, taking advantage of back-to-back errors and a double by Juan Silverio.

But Helena began to take control in the top of the second, scoring two runs on four hits, including RBI-singles by Keen and Hopkins.

After the Voyagers pulled within a run in the third, on a Ryan Hamme sacrifice fly that plated Silverio, the Brewers pushed across three runs on five hits in their half of the fourth. Delk was relieved by Goldy Simmons following a run-scoring single by Hopkins.

Helena starter Tyler Cravy went six complete innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three and walking one. Both Robert Currie and Brian Garman, who pitched the ninth, were solid in relief.

"We just couldn't get anything going. We had poor tempo," said Cron of the Voyager offense. "We couldn't find the holes.

"Their pitchers threw strikes, and they fielded the ground balls and made the outfield catches."

Great Falls' only hits were a pair of doubles by Silverio and singles by Leighton Pangilinan and Kyle Davis.

The final game of the three-game series starts at 4:00 PM today (5:00 Central).

NOTES: Five Voyagers were batting .300 or better entering Saturday's game: Ross Wilson (.444), Jeff Tezak (.333), Jose Ramos (.333), Dusty Harvard (.313) and Kyle Davis (.300). Hopkins led Helena with a .500 average, second best in the Pioneer League. ... As a team, Great Falls was batting .278, the fourth-best average in the league. Helena was one spot behind, at .268. The Voyagers had a league-best 54 hits after five games; Helena had 44. The Brewers, however, had 15 extra base hits, five more than Great Falls. ... The Voyagers' had a league-best ERA of 2.94 following Friday's win over the Brewers. Helena ranked sixth (5.93). Great Falls pitchers led the league in strikeouts (56), runs (21) and earned runs (16).

Crap! Military appreciation night last night in Great Falls and I was in Missoula. Had I known the Helena Brewers were playing I would have made more of an attempt to get back and watch. Maybe I will go this afternoon.

It appears that the DSL Brewer and Cardinal teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, with each acting as the home team once to make up for an earlier rainout, but MiLB.com only lists details for this game...

The other game was finally posted --

Final, Game Two: DSL Cardinals 4, DSL Brewers 1

DSL Brewers Box Score

RHP Rolando Pascual started and faced 17 batters, walking five of them and hitting another, but managed to get through four innings, allowing only two runs (one earned), with only one strikeout -- to think this is his 5th year in the Brewer chain, well, at least he hasn't quit nor the Brewers on him; Brewer batters also drew five walks but managed only one base hit, a Ronny Puello double...

I watched the recent T-Rats game that was on TV, and Odorizzi certainly looked sharper than the last time he was on TV. The first time he was on I thought his fastball command and velocity looked pretty good, but he had a hard time snapping off an effective breaking ball. That wasn't a big issue on Saturday, and at times he didn't even need his curveball given how well he was throwing his fastball. His fastball has great natural movement, throwing both a 2 and 4 seamer. Jim Gantner was providing the color commentary, and noted that he thought Odorizzi was topping out in the 94-95 range. Regardless of the velocity, he spotted the pitch extremely well, and blew away several hitters with heat down the pipe, a few looking and a few swinging. He snapped off 3-5 really good curveballs and a hanful of other good ones, but this is a pitch he will need to continue to tighten up (and given how it varied from one start to the other, I'm guessing this is something he's currently working on).

His arm action is the same for each pitch. It doesn't slow down or alter, and he commands the strike zone very well. I'm very impressed with this young man, as the stats are very telling of his promise. I know I likened Odorizzi to Gallardo when he was drafted, and that comp still holds given the command, the strong fastball and the athleticism. I could see Odorizzi splitting next year between BC and Huntsville like Gallardo did after spending a full year at low-A.

Sidenote: The stadium gun had Odorizzi at 99 for a few pitches in this game. They did a shot of the radar gun during the telecast and I have no idea what they're using to record pitch speeds. It looks like a security camera from the 1970s, which speaks to how reliable that thing is.

I really like Scooter Gennett. He's one heck of a player with a very good swing. He manages the strike zone very well, and is an aggressive hitter that doesn't seem to miss very often. He goes with pitches and has decent wheels on the basepaths. There is some pop in his swing, but he's going to be more of a doubles hitter than a home run hitter. I just love his presence on the field.

Morris is an impressive athlete physically. Not that he was ever out of shape, but he appears to be in the best shape of his life right now. He really has done a good job with conditioning over the last year, as he was a little softer when I saw him his sophomore year at Auburn.

Kentrail Davis appears to be hitting a little more upright than he was last year at Tennessee. I noticed this with Morris too, as I wonder if the Brewers tinkered with he and Morris, who also had a slightly more crouched stance, or if it's just coincidence. Davis' bat speed is unreal, as it rivals anyone in the system, and while he's patient and selective at the plate, it seems as though his bat can be too fast at times, somewhat similar to Rickie Weeks' progression as a hitter.

The T-Rats of course are loaded with the all of the new additions, and I wonder if the Brewers intend to advance this group together similar to how they did with the Hart/Hardy/Fielder/Weeks wave a few years back. I could see Hawn joining this group sooner rather than later, as I think he's a better, more natural all-around hitter than Morris is, even if there isn't a spot for him currently.
