Dealing Davis?

I know Doug Davis' contract isn't burdensome and I know most contenders will be looking for a little more impact, but wouldn't it be worth it to put out feelers to teams like the Dodgers? Then we could deal him as soon as he's off the DL.
Reasons:
I don't think four lefties in the rotation is a good idea.
It would be nice to try to grab a high ceiling A or AA pitcher.
I'd just as soon see Parra, Cappy and Bush get the starts. Thus far none of them really seem any worse of an option than Davis.

I doubt you'd even get a high ceiling AA pitcher for him at this point. Maybe a decent pitcher in single-A or some kind of OK-ish veteran AAA pitcher. That's about it.

That said, I'm not opposed to trading him if someone wants him. It's clear the team has much better options in the rotation at this point.

I'd trade him for a bad mortgage at this point. The rotation is on a roll and why put a guy like Davis who has shown nothing this year into that mix and essentially toss a wrench in it.

He'd have to have two or three really good outings in a row after coming off the DL, and someone would have to be desparate enough to take a flyer on him, and we wouldn't get much, and we'd probablt have to pay some of his salary--that should get it done. But if his problem has been injury all along and he reverts to last years form you probably want to keep him anyways.

If he pitches good enough to remain in the rotation, and the rest of the group continues like they have pitched in June, they can easily be a middle of the pack starting 5, which with a top 2-3 offense, is enough to get them back into contention. That's a lot of ifs, but, no one is making trades today anyway. They'll decide where they are on about 7/15 or 7/20 and go from there. If they're within 5 or so, as Mark A said today, they're not even going to think about it, in fact, they might add a piece or two.

IF he "reverts" to last years from, his LD% will go UP, his GB% will go

down, his K's per 9 will go way down(by about 2), his FIP will go

UP.....

Just trying to reiterate the point that Doug Davis needs to do any

reverting. At least based on the 7 starts he's made thus far.

In fact without the keystone cops tripping over the bases on the way to

easy ground balls and the "Angels in the OF" scenario in which every

ball magically falls for a hit at the tune of a .415 BABIP, Davis should be

juuuust fine.
