Its almost like Macha is just winging it. Why have Axford warm up in the 7th and then use him for a 2 inning save?

It looks like Macha is using Axford like he is his #1 bullpen arm (which he is). He'll use him in the highest leverage situation, to try and scrape away as many wins as possible. I have to agree with it, because Axford is THE MAN!

So glad Macha went with Axford for a second inning rather than try to get the other guy his 59whatever-eth save. Gotta win games at this point. If they can't do it with their best available, there will be plenty of meaningless time in August and September to get Hell's Bells his save milestone.

Mustaches and two-inning saves... John Axford is a man out of time.

Exactly! There is nothing this kid has done that should take him out of the closer role. Its been one of the few positives of Brewers pitching all year.

Macha was just talking about Braddock not being there because of a death in the family. Does anyone know if he was put on the bereavement list or is he just going to miss a game or two?

The guys on MLB Network are gushing over Axford. The best part was when the anchor (don't recall his name - he's the non-player of the group) said of the clean shaven picture they had of him, "He doesn't look like a closer in that picture, but now that he has facial hair, I trust him to close games."

I for one like that Ax-Man went 2 for the save... screw this defined inning crap that is done all over baseball. Use your best pitchers in the most important situations and get the wins. The 9th inning is no more important than any other inning.

I'm not big on Macha at all, but I will give credit where credit is due.

Nice win last night. As I commented last night, I'm going tonight and tomorrow, so it was nice to see them kick off the homestand with a big win over the Twinkies.

They almost coughed it up, but it was nice to see Macha be aggressive in pulling Coffey and using Axford for two innings. I was almost in shock when it became apparent "The Ax Man" would be out again in the 9th.

Ax was huge. I was guessing there would be a good buzz around here and some Macha praise after he kept him in for the 9th. Ha. I too think it was more nerves that kept him in there because he didn't want Hoff to blow it. Does anyone know if Hoff was warming up at all?

Good game last night. Narveson did a good job limiting the damage after giving up 6 straight baserunners to open the game. It was sweltering in the stadium and was about 50/50 Brewers/Twins fans. 36,000+ on a Tuesday night made for a lively crowd.

No joke it was HOT in there. Me and my brother spent the middle 4 innings in the nyce club. thats pretty rare, I usually like to be in my seats, but sitting still and sweating is tuff.

Last night and tonight have been great.
