Dunn and Strasburg?

I’m not even sure if the Nats would trade Gallardo, Braun, and Fielder for Strasburg.
No doubt about it. The Washington Wizards.....err......Nationals are actually heading away from mediocrity, past decent and on the road to good. Strasburg is a pitcher who doesn't come along to often. He's a guy who so far, has lived up to the hype. Why would the Nats dump him?

What I would like to see is the Nats make a run for Roy Oswalt. I wonder if they have a fit. They already have a pretty decent lineup. If they could just get some additional rotation support to go along with Strasburg I could seriously see them competing in 2011. It seems like Steven Strasburg will add a ton of revenue to the team through ticket sales and etc, so they could also be buyers on the free agent market this offseason.

Nationals get:
1B Prince Fielder, RHP Yovani Gallardo, 2B Brett

Lawrie, LF Ryan Braun, RF Corey Hart, 3B Casey McGehee, RHP Mark Rogers,

C Jonathan Lucroy

Brewers get:

RHP Stephen Strasburg

I think these trades are getting as outlandish as the original suggestion. I'm thinking we could get just about any TWO players from any team in baseball for that package....

As for the Nationals making a run at Roy Oswalt, that would be really interesting.

Consider that they've got Jordan Zimmerman coming back from TJ surgery and should be 100 pct healthy next year(He should be back after the ASB IIRC this year) and Ross Detwiler coming back from a knee injury(could be a hip, not sure) and you've got the makings of a pretty nasty rotation coming up.

I think if I'm the Nationals I would look to spend on a FA position player though.

-Strasburg

-Zimmerman

-Detwiler

-Olsen(who's looked good this year)

-Lannan(who's coming off back to back sub 4.00 ERA's before having a rough year this year)

-Livan(who's experiencing a bit of a resurgence

Maybe they add Oswalt and look to add some offense.

Bring back Dunn

Perhaps Rickie Weeks+Corey Hart+Braddock/Axford for Jordan Zimmerman+Scott Olsen? They'd need someone who has some upside and will be around for a while.

Rotation of

1-Strasburg

2-Oswalt

3-Detwiler

4-Livan

5-Lannan

Lineup of

1-Weeks 2B

2-Bernadina CF

3-Zimmerman 3B

4-Dunn 1B

5-Willingham LF

6-Hart RF

7-Pudge C

8-Desmond SS

CL-Storen

SU-Clippard

7th-Capps

That's a team that could seriously contend next year! I think the Nationals are going to have the money to spend as they're a big market team who's fans are waiting for a reason to come.

I don't know, I didn't spend enough time putting enough thought into that, but I've always liked Scott Olsen and I think EVERYONE loves Zimmerman. And the Nationals instantly look like a good, good team.

The reason I made the suggestion I did was because if I'm the Nats, that's where I start. As I've said previously, Strasburg seems to be the real deal, just a few starts in, and Washington is building something good. If they want to continue building, they don't trade Strasburg for a whole lot. At a minimum 2 out of Fielder, Braun or Yo.

Why would the Nats have any real interest in Fielder, though? 1B is not a position of need for them right now, and they can probably extend Dunn for a much cheaper deal than it would take to keep Fielder long term. And as good as Gallardo is, he would be a downgrade from what Strasburg is likely going to bring.

I still can't figure out if that original post was supposed to be a joke or not.

This does bring up an interesting question though, is Strasburg now the most valuable piece of property in the major leagues? I know I'd rather have him than anyone else, even that guy from the Cards.

On the other hand I do believe, by virtue of two of the contracts, that Braun, Fielder, and Gallardo could get it done. Afterall they could flip Fielder immediately for a back up catcher and a top flight A ball pitcher.

He's good, but I dunno . . .

Gotta love the Longoria contract, and Braun too. Pujols is still the best hitter in the game by a wide margin. As far as pitchers, Lester's contract it pretty fantastic too. Strasburg's definitely in the conversation though.

I highly doubt it could. Washington spent so much on Strasburg's rights that they likely won't give up him for much of anything. That said Evan Longoria is still likely the most valuable piece of property however given relative injury risk.

Keep in mind that the one year they would have had a normal player for cheap(2013) they can't pay him less than $2.4M. Still pretty cheap but not league minimum cheap.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Now PR moves aside, do you really

think they'd turn down that deal? You are talking about three young,

perennial all-stars, two of who are signed for at least four years for a

very reasonable price. As good as Strasburg is, I don't really think

he's worth three perennial all-stars, two of whom could be considered

top 5 MVP caliber players and one of whom is definitely Cy Young caliber

AND who are all in the prime of their careers. Assuming Washington

would extend Fielder, they'd be fools to turn down that deal, just as

big of fools as Milwaukee would be to offer it. It'd one thing to offer

that deal if Braun, Fielder, and Gallardo are all in the minors as

prospects, but if I were Washington I'd take that deal in a heartbeat.
