Dunn and Strasburg?

I think the Nationals could be a good trading partner. They could use a few good young players since they are in a position to make a run this year.

Here is my trade proposal:

Nationals get:
1B Prince Fielder, RF Corey Hart, 2B Casey McGehee, RHP Mark Rogers, C Angel Salome, and RHP Mike Jones.

Brewers get:
1B Adam Dunn, RHP Stephen Strasburg, and LHP Josh Smoker.

Now here me out:

The Nats have a thing for Corey Hart, McGehee can replace their hole at 2B and Salome can replace Pudge who will likely retire. The Nats can than sign Fielder long term with the money they save by trading Dunn's contract.

The Brewers can play Gamel at 3B to replace McGehee's productions, Dunn at 1B or OF to replace Fielder/Hart and we also get a quality young starter in Strasburg.

Now you might wonder if Strasburg is even available since he was just drafted last year, but he is eligible to be traded now that it is over a year since last year's draft. Stasburg could immediately slot in as our #3 starter beyond Gallardo and Wolf. Strasburg would be a significant upgrade over our current #3 starter. Who is our #3 starter right now? Anyways, I got a chance to see Strasburg pitch and I think he could develop into a solid #2 starter, possibly even a #1. He kinda reminds me of a young Ben Sheets, actually. My only concern is that he doesn't seem to be able to throw more than 100 pitches when he starts, which is a drawback. We already have enough starters that can't get beyond the 6th inning. I would still do this trade however, because it makes sense for both teams. Thoughts?

Not only would the Nationals laugh you off the phone, but they would probably try to have you committed for bringing this trade to their attention. Strasburg is going to be, if not already the most talented pitcher in MLB and they have him for 6 years, add that to Bryce Harper and they are sitting fat right now.

McGehee is NOT a 2B. Salome isn't a catcher anymore.

That's nitpicking. McGehee filled in for Weeks last year and Salome was a catcher in high school and the minors. I even saw him catch in person at Nashville. Maybe we could include Parra to get the deal done.

There is simply no way we are getting Strasburg, none at all, there's is simply no way Washington will trade him.

Any deal would have to start with Gallardo, and there's no way we're trading him either.

I kinda see the comp to Sheets. They're both RH'ers and they both throw curveballs.

Of course Strasburg has a 93 MPH change that's as fast as Sheeters FASTBALL, Strasburg throws 100 MPH..not just once a game, not just here and there, very, very often.

No, seriously, this trade isn't going down. Even if you wanted to...say trade them Gallardo and Braun for Strasburg and Storen, a even trade in my mind value wise, it's about the Nationals developing an identity. Right now, they're the team Stephen Strasburg pitches for. He IS their team. They've got less than no incentive to trade him.

And honest question, were you being sarcastic when you said he could develop into a solid #2 starter, possibly even a #1? I would have to assume so. If there has EVER been ANY pitcher who projects as an ace, a #1, it's him.

Solid #2? Possibly #1? Have you watched him pitch at all? He's already a bona fide #1. He throws 99 consistently and can locate 3 off-speed pitches. He's the most untouchable player in the entire league.

McGehee has played 2B but I find it hard to believe that anybody would put him there except in a dire emergency let alone trade for him as a 2B. He is not a good 2B. He is barely a passably 3B mostly because of his range.

Salome requested to play in the outfield. He is no longer a catcher. He may eventually play catcher again, but I really doubt it. He has had a lot of personal problems to put things lightly.

I blame Wang.

I guess the only response to this is, if you had Strasburg, Dunn, & Smoker, would you take that offer? I don't think you can honestly answer "yes". This doesn't realistically improve the Nats in any way.

I’m not even sure if the Nats would trade Gallardo, Braun, and Fielder for Strasburg.

What I would like to see is the Nats make a run for Roy Oswalt. I wonder if they have a fit. They already have a pretty decent lineup. If they could just get some additional rotation support to go along with Strasburg I could seriously see them competing in 2011. It seems like Steven Strasburg will add a ton of revenue to the team through ticket sales and etc, so they could also be buyers on the free agent market this offseason.

If I'm Doug Melvin, I hold out until they add Ryan Zimmerman.

To the point of not throwing over 100 pitches, they aren't going to let him throw over that at all this year, and they'll be shutting him down at around 100 IP from what I've heard. They're not going to burn him out like what happened with Mark Prior.

And nope, I don't ever see that trade working out.
