McCalvy:

ANAHEIM -- Brewers reliever Todd Coffey departed for Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday afternoon and will throw a maximum of 25 pitches in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Thursday. He has not pitched since May 29 because of a bruised right thumb and could be activated from the 15-day disabled list this weekend in Colorado. If Coffey has any problems on Thursday, he could pitch for Nashville again Saturday.

Notice that the Sounds have to get creative by timing Chris Cody's transfer to AAA for in-between games --Nashville Media Notes

CODY TO JOIN SOUNDS FOR GAME 2 START: Left-hander Chris Cody is expected to be added to the Nashville roster from Double-A Huntsville to start the second game of this evening’s doubleheader. The southpaw -- who spent the second half of last season with the Sounds and went 8-8 with a 4.90 ERA in 17 games (16 starts) in his first career Triple-A stint -- has gone 3-6 with a 5.19 ERA (29 ER / 50.1 IP) in 12 games for the Stars this year. A roster move to activate Cody will be announced between tonight’s games. Mike Jones and Cody become the 12th & 13th pitchers to start a game for Nashville this season; the Sounds had only 14 different starters in the entire 2009 campaign.

John Sickels

**Brewers prospect Kentrail Davis was supposed to be a .300+ hitter and was drafted out of Tennessee last year in the supplemental first round with that expectation. He began this year at Brevard County in the Florida State League, resulting in a .244/.380/.341 line...he drew 17 walks in 123 at-bats and stole eight bases in ten attempts, but he hit for little power and the BA was disappointing. The Brewers sent him down to Low-A Wisconsin a couple of days ago, where he's 3-for-7 so far. I think there might be something odd going on here; he WAS controlling the strike zone pretty well, and it seems strange to pull the plug on him after just 33 games in the Florida State League. I'll see what I can find out.

Wow - Rogers is no-hitting Montgomery... but he has allowed two runs on 5 walks, a wild pitch and a error or two thrown in. He has 0 hits and 5Ks through 5 IP. He'll likely be pulled as he is at 89 pitches.

Final, Game 2 (7 innings): Lakeland (Detroit) 1, Brevard County 0

Brevard County Boxscore

A tough luck loss for Daniel Meadows who allowed the only run of the game on a HR. He pitched 2 innings, walked no one, and struck out. Mike Ramlow started and was fantastic over his 3 innings of work. He allowed 2 hits, no walks, and struck out 6! Trey Watten managed to pitch around 2 walks in the 6th to put a scoreless frame. Offensively Sean Halton had the only 2 hits, he was 2-3 with a stolen base. Angel Salome (DH) walked and was the only other Manatee baserunner, not a stellar effort by any means.

Just a single DSL game -- the league probably didn't want the Crew with back-to-back twinbills, especially when they play the same three teams over and over and there are so many opportunities to make up a game...seeing how initially TheCrew07 and I had agreed to split tonight's games with Nashville and the DSL for yours truly, I catch the breaks...

Final: DSL Mariners 9, DSL Brewers 6

DSL Brewers Box Score

The D-Crew trailed 9-0 after six innings before throwing up their own six-spot in the 7th to make the final score respectable; in his last two starts, both against Seattle's kids, RHP Leonard Lorenzo has allowed 11 runs, nine earned, 10 hits and eight walks in 7.2 innings -- Lorenzo had allowed zero earned runs in seven innings two starts ago -- so tough to be consistent at any level, especially these lowest rungs; LHP Juan Santiago has now walked ten in 6.2 innings over his three relief appearances; three other hurlers managed scoreless innings to finish up; Jose Pena's two-run triple was the lone Brewer extra-base hit; clean defense a plus; fantastic name for the Mariner DH who blasted two home runs and reached base all five times...

DSL Brewers Game Log

Might as well shine a light on the six-run frame, even in a losing effort --

DSL Brewers Bottom 7th

  • Pitcher Change: Gregorio Aquino replaces Jochi Ogando.
  • Juan De Leon singles on a line drive to center fielder Randy Perez.
  • Alejandro Mendoza walks. Juan De Leon to 2nd.
  • Yonki Hernandez reaches on throwing error by first baseman Jordy Lara. Juan De Leon scores. Alejandro Mendoza to 2nd.
  • Erickson Salaya singles on a line drive to center fielder Randy Perez. Alejandro Mendoza scores. Yonki Hernandez to 2nd.
  • Julio Sotelo singles on a line drive to center fielder Randy Perez. Yonki Hernandez scores. Erickson Salaya to 2nd.
  • With Jose Pena batting, wild pitch by Gregorio Aquino, Erickson Salaya to 3rd. Julio Sotelo to 2nd.
  • Jose Pena triples (2) on a fly ball to center fielder Randy Perez. Erickson Salaya scores. Julio Sotelo scores.
  • Pitcher Change: Brandol Perez replaces Gregorio Aquino.
  • Jorge De La Cruz strikes out swinging.
  • Joan Abreu walks.
  • Jose R. Garcia grounds out, shortstop Noe Berro to first baseman Jordy Lara. Jose Pena scores. Joan Abreu to 2nd.
  • Juan De Leon flies out to center fielder Randy Perez.

Final: Clinton (Seattle) 3, Wisconsin 2

Revenge of the Ex-Rattlers

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

CLINTON, IA - A pair of

former Wisconsin Timber Rattlers did damage to their former team on Thursday

night at Alliant Energy Field. Daniel

Carroll and Kalian Sams combined to drive in all three runs for the Clinton

LumberKings in a 3-2 victory. Sams

drove in the winning run with a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth

inning.

Wisconsin (24-42) took the lead

with a run in the first inning. They

loaded the bases with one out on a pair of singles and a hit batsman.

Hunter Morris, the 4th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers,

stepped to the plate for his first professional at bat.

His slow ground out to short got the run home and the Rattlers were up

1-0.

Carroll, a Timber Rattler in

2008 when the team was affiliated with the Seattle Mariners, singled with two

out in the bottom of the third. The

hit by the LumberKings centerfielder drove in two and Clinton (36-30) went in

front 2-1.

Michael Marseco singled and

went to second on an error to start the Wisconsin fifth inning.

D'Vontrey Richardson moved him along to third with a grounder to the

right side of the infield. Cutter

Dykstra slapped a base hit to right through the drawn-in infield to score

Marseco with the tying run.

The game remained tied until

the bottom of the ninth inning. Vinnie

Catricala singled to start the frame and was sacrificed to second base.

Wisconsin chose to walk Welington Dotel to set up the double play and

face Sams, who had struck out 87 times in his previous 181 at bats this season.

Sams, a Timber Rattler at the start of the 2007 season, lined a 2-1 pitch

down the left field line to score Catricala with the winning run.

The Timber Rattlers are now

3-19 in games decided by one run. Thursday

night was also the fifth time this season the Rattlers have been 'walked

off' by their opponents.

The Rattlers continue their

road trip with a three-game series in Kane County that starts on Friday night.

Kyle Heckathorn (4-4, 2.58) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the

Timber Rattlers. Kane County will

send Dan Straily (5-3, 4.76) to the hill. Game

time at Elfstrom Stadium is 7:00pm. Fans

may tune in for the play-by-play action on AM 1280, WNAM starting with the

Miller Lite Pregame show at 6:40pm.

WP: Brian Moran (3-1)

LP: Caleb Thielbar (0-2)

TIME: 2:26

Wisconsin Boxscore

Del Howell's longest outing of his career goes for naught. Del pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, and 2 Ks. Caleb Thielbar did nice work picking up Howell in the 7th, but just couldn't get WI to the 10th. Hunter Morris was 0-3 in his professional debut. Cutter Dykstra, Kris Davis, and Austin Stockfish had multi hit games, Chris Dennis and Stockfish also added doubles for the Rattlers. Don't worry about Scooter Gennett, Chris insisted it was just another off day and he's not injured. The only thing left to say is that WI has definitely paid their dues in the first half, we're owed a huge second half from this team.

Wisconsin Recap

Caleb bailed out Del in the 7th, the highlighted play could have been an error, with that play Del might get through the 7th.

Clinton Bottom 7th

  • Tim Morris flies out to right fielder Kentrail Davis.
  • Welington Dotel singles on a ground ball to second baseman Peter Fatse.
  • Kalian Sams walks. Welington Dotel to 2nd.
  • Pitcher Change: Caleb Thielbar replaces Del Howell.
  • Hawkins
Gebbers grounds into a force out, pitcher Caleb Thielbar to shortstop
Michael Marseco. Welington Dotel to 3rd. Kalian Sams out at 2nd.
    Hawkins Gebbers to 1st.
  • Steven Baron strikes out swinging.

Wisconsin had a golden opportunity in the 9th but failed score, Fatse's bunt proved to be a key mistake.

Wisconsin Top 9th

  • Chris Dennis walks.
  • Peter
Fatse ground bunts into a force out, pitcher Brian Moran to shortstop
Nick Franklin. Chris Dennis out at 2nd. Peter Fatse to 1st
