What's bugging you? (2006)

Madison Mark?

Yes...Awesome place to live.

Looks like something that was bugging me is no longer bugging me. 92.1 in Madison will no longer become a Fox Sports affiliate. Clear Channel decided to keep the programming the way it was. However, I did not realize 100.5 FM was a sports radio station in Madison. Goes to show how well they advertise that station.

Currently, the amount of presents we have to stuff into the car is bugging me. I have no idea how we are going to get everything in the car without ruining the wrapping.

That's because the signal only goes about 10 miles in each direction. The only thing that station is good for is the live broadcasts of national games.

If you're interested, they air Bob & Brian, The D-List, Szaban and some local stuff too.

after i got in, i realized that a cable broke on the door. the spring was laying on the ground, and now i am waiting for a repairman to come out and take a few hundred dollars from me!

Childhood obesity.

In my opinion, child protective services should get involved whenever you have a 200 pound 5th grader, because it's likely neglect/abuse. If it isn't OK for a 10 year-old to smoke, it shouldn't be OK for you to feed him until his risk of heart disease is higher than a smoker's.

I see so many kids in schools that just make me sick. Seriously, these kids come to school with a big bag of chips for snack, and then 2 big slices of pizza with a Dr. Pepper for lunch. You're mistreating your kids when you do this, whether you realize it or not. It really isn't much different than the kid with the untreated infections whose parents nearly get him taken away for neglect.

True, many people are genetically fat, but those aren't the cases that bug me. However, it's funny how in recent times, half of the country is "genetically predisposed to being overweight". How so? Your grandparents were just a little overweight and you're 4 bills.

People who throw hissy-fits at the cashier when a price is perceived to be wrong. It's not the cashier's fault, you know. If you point it out, they can call for pricing assistance. Also, all of these stores have those little electronic readers everywhere, so if you're concerned about a certain item, you can verify it while shopping.

This makes me mad in both directions.

1) I can't stand people arguing over 8 cents. Think about the rate per hour you're making by arguing. If it takes ten minutes to get your 50 cents back, you just made $3 an hour.

2) I hate how stores can't get prices right in an age of automation and sophisticated computers. Seriously, it says "$24.99" all around the product but the registers still ring it up as $29.99. I guess I just distrust retailers enough to think that these may not really be mistakes, but attempts to make money by assuming people won't notice or won't care enough to dispute it.

MS, the price thing is due to categories and subcategories, and how difficult it is to get all proper items on sale.

25% off juice, for example...does this include "juice" products with little juice, like Hi-C? Mixers?

Of course, human error is the cause of a simple mistake...that and many consumers see a sign on one item and assume it applies to everything within many feet.

While your scenarios are true, another popular one is that the people who put the sale signs on an item often forget to take some down after the sale ends, causing the confusion.

Somebody has to type those prices into the cash register computers. It's also possible that the person hit a wrong number putting the price into the computer.

Being back to work today....definitely bugging me.

Amen to that, splitter. After a couple of decades of student life and then two years working in the UW System, I let myself get used to thinking of the week between Christmas and New Year's as a time to relax.

Now I'm in a different branch of state government and I haven't had that "holiday week" off since 1991. The students who work for me are generally gone this week (those who live in the dorms have no choice, as UW-Madison closes them for the midyear break), and my "grownup" office mate is home because his daughter is off school. Other departments here either have enough staff to take turns from year to year, or they don't work with the public and therefore simply all take the same week off.

Still...I'm thankful I don't work in retail. That is a branch of public service for which I would be ill suited.

Brian is right, leftover signs are a minor problem, especially on Sunday, the first day of most sales.

As for the next person, who said that prices have to be typed into a computer, they usually don't, unless they are item specific. If it's 25% off juice, they are able to just make it a category wide discount.

Childhood obesity.

I agree -- this is a big problem

I disagree about getting child services involved, as I don't think the gov't schools can do a better job.

Here is what bugs me about the situation.

1.) Schools selling soda/candy. -- I am not sure why this needs to happen.

2.) Schools letting McDonald's, Pizza Hut, etc., run their cafeterias -- I cannnot imagine what good they think is going to come out a kid putting down a personal pizza, or #1 value meal 5 days a week for lunch.

3.) Gym Class -- Speaking of my school system -- our gym class is about as useless as it gets. My kids come home with tests for "the rules of floor hockey" -- I appreciate the need to teach kids about team sports -- however, I think it more important for kids to learn about food and the way their body processes it. I suspect that a lot of kids (and adults) are fat, because they are ignorant to how to manage their bodies.

I wish they would set up a gym class where students were given an evaulation at the beginning of the year of their health, and given a way to evaluate their caloric intake, and a way to increase their exercise if that be exercise bikes, lifting weights, track running, aerobics, etc... I'd rather see a kid moving that standing in a corner with a gym hockey stick

I was with my dad a couple years ago when that happened. The old sign saved him $100 on a TV. We pretty much insisted that he was entitled to the discount, especially since the sign caused him to choose Best Buy over a similar model at Circuit City across the street.

the cashier checking their ID when the customer is clearly older than 40
Speaking of my dad, he got carded buying a six pack of beer last summer. He was four months shy of his 79th birthday, and it's probably fair to say he looks his age. Pick 'n Save cards everybody.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I'd hate to be one of the grocery checkers having to carry out that policy. Customers must surely comment/gripe/make bad jokes about it constantly.

I'm not so sure about that, I remember my friend's mom shopping at Pick N' Save just so that she would get carded.

As a former bouncer/doorman I always abide by the card everyone philosophy. Saves the $500+ fine for selling to someone who was "obviously" of age.

NeedMoreFans, I'm with you, literally & figuratively, on the Madison Mark (2d floor!)

I've also talked to the new manager about getting the FSN situation remedied. I'm worried that there's been another mixup (surprise, surprise) by DirecTV, bc since I mentioned the problem, the Fox Soccer Channel has gone to black, while our lovely Minnesota FSN channel remains.

I guess it's a 'wait and see' kind of situation, but it certainly couldn't hurt to have someone else living in the building stop down and voice a complaint on not being able to get Brewer games

Principessa and TooLiveBrew...check your ezInboxes...I sent you messages that don't have anything to do with what is bugging me...though it does bug me that our apartment building doesn't get the Wisconsin feed of FSN. Can't watch Badger hockey either. Quite annoying.

We have off work this week. I was planning to pick up my check Friday afternoon. Just found out this afternoon this week's paycheck isn't available on Friday because the office will be closed (but it was available today). Now I have to wait until Tuesday to get it.

I didn't know this. I'll be writing a letter to the president.

The communication at this company really sucks.

Our neighbors just got a new surround sound theatre system for their apartment. Now, all we hear is a thunderous roar of loud movies and music, no matter what room we are in in our own apartment.

In situations like this, should we talk to them directly, or go through the building manager?
