Info on northern NJ/NY

LouisEly

Looks like I'll be spending most of the next 8 months in northern NJ/NY. Our office is on the NJ/NY border (last exit on Garden State Parkway before heading into NY), and I'm looking for recommendations on places to live. My company is going to find corporate housing so they will find it, I just have to tell them what area.

Looking for a place that has a good "30's" crowd and is near stuff to do/bars & restaurants/activities but not too far of a drive from the office (preferably within 30 minutes). I'm not a NYC person - been there enough times to know that for me it's a nice place to visit but I need to see sunlight, grass, trees, and not have a big hassle finding parking. Hate living in the shadows of skyscrapers. Some have mentioned Hoboken, but my colleagues say it is more than the 40 minutes the map says and is like NYC but without the skyscrapers. Others have mentioned Ridgewood, NJ. One suggested Nyack, NY - don't know anything about that place.

Anyone familiar with that area and have any suggestions or more knowledge of those cities? Thanks!

Ridgewood is quite lovely. Montclair or Upper Montclair are both fine. Paramus is good---though they have Sunday Blue Laws which force many businesses to close on Sundays.

Hoboken is/was trendy. Jersey City is supposedly the new Hoboken.

You'll be fine in Bergen County. . .Passaic is a little spotty.

I worked in Little Falls for 3 years, and we have lived in Central NJ now three separate times, in Flemington, Hillsborough & soon Princeton. We're currently in corporate housing in Somerset, which is about an hour south of you.

I don't know anything about Nyack, though I've been in White Plains a number of times, and that looks like a fun place to live.
