Electronics Help

sbrylski

I was using my Aiwa stereo as a passable surround sound setup with my old TV. Got a new TV, and have the following problem:

The new TV only has optical digital audio output. The stereo receiver only has component input.

I dug around a google search or two, but I think the collective mind of BF.net will give me a more concise and accurate response. What are my options to make this work? Preferrably, what is the cheapest option?

By "component input", I assume you mean stereo RCA (white & red). As far as I know, there isn't an easy way to do this. You are talking about taking a digital audio stream and converting it to analog. There are possibly converters out there (old school Dolby Digital decoders, or something like this), but I think you might be better off just investing in even an entry level modern surround sound receiver.
