Good website to help you pick out parts and it will let you know if they are compatible. They also have several parts lists you can look through. The only thing I would say for sure about building a pc is make sure you get a SSD for your primary hard drive. It is the single biggest improvement you can make for a computer.

If you want to pick out parts on your owns, start with the processor and the case.

The processor you pick will determine the motherboard and RAM you need. The case will also help determine the motherboard size. If you go with Intel go with an i5. Most programs and games are not going to take advantage of what the i7 provides over an i5.

Thanks for the tips, logan. After reading up on it yesterday, I think I will attempt to build my own PC. It seems like there are enough videos and guides online that it shouldn't be too hard for me...I have done things like upgrade RAM, replace a power supply, etc...just never built an entire computer from scratch. I am looking at an i5 processor and a Geforce 1060 GPU. We'll see how it goes!

One other thing I would recommend is buying a powersupply that supplies roughly half again as much power as you need. This leaves room to grow and means it will not be running at max when the computer is. PC Partpicker should let you know how much power you need.
