Any bike commuters out there?

Flood Pants

Since this is Milwaukee's bike to work week, I was wondering if there are any other bike commuters on this forum. If so, it might be fun to share where we bike to and from each day.

I live in Bay View and bike commute to the east side (and with KK being closed while 1st is under construction, this has become more difficult this week!)

I own a car, but I almost always commute by bike when in town. I love my bike and love riding around town. I live in Montana and during my last 2 years of college I rode my bike to and from the university, 5 miles one way, almost every day including some brutal winters. It just feels good to be on a bike.

I bike to work 2-4 days a week depending on what my exact schedule is. Usually I toss my suit or dress clothes in a bag on the back of my bike and wear something else for the actual commute. I find that it helps me relax and get focused on the day before jumping into the daily grind. I only live about 4 miles from work so it isn't that big of a deal. The nice thing is that during construction season it is faster than driving and even during the rest of the year it only takes a couple of extra minutes. Sometimes on the way home I'll take a longer route and let it serve as a workout.

I would strongly encourage everyone to try it a couple of times a week over the course of a month. Once you learn a few tricks (shortcuts, how to carry your stuff, etc...) you'll realize how much better it is than driving.

I live only three miles from the office, so I've been trying to bike a couple times a week. I've yet to hit on the perfect arrangement for taking my stuff with me, but I'll work it out. That being said, I really don't like feeling sweaty when I get to the office.

I used to bike in to the office in the summer when I lived 2 miles away from it, but I've since moved 200 miles away and work from home so no bike/car/bus is necessary. Work attire was business casual, with an emphasis on the casual, so clothing was typically not an issue.

i dont want to hijack this thread, but since someone started a thread about bicycling...

i wanted to mention that my cousin tommy (25 yrs old) just finished his 6 years in the navy stationed in san diego, and he is currently bicycling along the trans-american bike trail from oregon to virginia. he is a little over 2 weeks into it, and is somewhere in idaho or montana i think.

i can't imagine how difficult but fun that must be to do. i know i could never do it, but we are all pulling for him!
