Too bad there's been no audio for today's Brevard action -- the log indicates a heck of a game:

In progress, bottom of the 8th at Space Coast (scheduled for seven innings): Bradenton (Pirates) 4, Brevard County 4

Angel Salome, as noted above, with a home run, a first-inning opposite field two-run shot, but what does that mean? The designated hitter at high-A, it's all still vague regarding his future. Wily Peralta stranded runners at 2nd and 3rd in the first inning, and did a nice job to limit the damage to one run after two infield errors opened up the Bradenton 2nd inning. Peralta then ran into trouble in the 4th, however, and the Manatees didn't help matters in the bottom of the inning, as the 'Tees trailed 4-2 after four.

Bradenton Top 4th

  • Calvin Anderson homers (5) on a fly ball to left field.
  • Austin McClune flies out to right fielder Erik Komatsu.
  • Erik Huber walks.
  • Adenson Chourio grounds into a force out, first baseman Sean Halton to shortstop Josh Prince. Erik Huber out at 2nd. Adenson Chourio to 1st.
  • Greg Picart doubles (2) on a line drive to center fielder Logan Schafer. Adenson Chourio scores. Greg Picart to 3rd on the throw.
  • Robbie Grossman singles on a ground ball to right fielder Erik Komatsu. Greg Picart scores.
  • With Quincy Latimore batting, Robbie Grossman caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Anderson De La Rosa to second baseman Sergio Miranda.

Brevard County Bottom 4th

  • Angel Salome grounds out, third baseman Jeremy Farrell to first baseman Calvin Anderson.
  • Sergio Miranda singles on a line drive to left fielder Quincy Latimore.
  • Sean Halton hit by pitch. Sergio Miranda to 2nd.
  • Brock Kjeldgaard walks. Sergio Miranda to 3rd. Sean Halton to 2nd.
  • Anderson De La Rosa strikes out swinging.
  • Juan Sanchez grounds out, third baseman Jeremy Farrell to first baseman Calvin Anderson.

The Manatees would make it 4-3 in the 5th on a Logan Schafer sacrifice fly.

Brandon Ritchie and Trey Watten kept it at 4-3 which allowed Erik Komatsu to hit a game-tying home run with two down in the 7th as Brevard was down to their last at-bat, wow, dramatics this week for the Sea Cows.

On to the 9th (2nd extra inning now), the Marauders have stranded nine men through eight innings.

Peralta was removed after retiring the first two men in the 5th, a bit odd at that juncture, but with several baserunners, not all of his doing, there were plenty of "stressful pitches" to that point.

Assisting battlekow a bit here while he's hard at work on draft duty...

Final, Game One: Brevard County 5, Bradenton (Pirates) 4, ten innings (scheduled for seven)

Brevard County Game One Box Score

Five and 1/3 innings of shutout, one-hit ball from the bullpen (LHP Brandon Ritchie, RHP's Trey Watten and Andre Lamontagne) were the key here; that's four innings of one-hit scoreless ball in three outings for the recently promoted Lamontagne; Wily Peralta's 2010 season remains a bit uneven -- seems most folks were expecting a bit more dominance in FSL parks especially; Sergio Miranda's game-winning RBI was his 36th overall, 11 more than anybody else on the squad -- he doesn't take any walks, or collect extra-base hits, but proves useful and clutch, nice, but the other skills must improve for long-term success for the 23-year old; Erik Komatsu finished 3-for-5 and had the big blast in the 7th to save the day, as detailed above...

Brevard County Game One Game Log

Came so close to winning it in the 9th --

Brevard County Bottom 9th

  • Sean Halton singles on a ground ball to right fielder Robbie Grossman.
  • With Brock Kjeldgaard batting, passed ball by James Skelton, Sean Halton to 2nd.
  • With Brock Kjeldgaard batting, passed ball by James Skelton, Sean Halton to 3rd.
  • Brock Kjeldgaard called out on strikes.
  • Anderson De La Rosa reaches on a fielder's choice out, pitcher Michael Colla to catcher James Skelton. Sean Halton out at home.
  • Juan Sanchez flies out to right fielder Robbie Grossman.

And then did so in the 10th! Yeah for two out rallies!

Brevard County Bottom 10th

  • Pitcher Change: Tyler Cox replaces Michael Colla.
  • Erik Komatsu flies out to center fielder Austin McClune.
  • Josh Prince flies out to right fielder Robbie Grossman.
  • Logan Schafer singles on a fly ball to right fielder Robbie Grossman.
  • Angel Salome walks. Logan Schafer to 2nd.
  • Sergio Miranda singles on a line drive to right fielder Robbie Grossman. Logan Schafer scores. Angel Salome to 2nd.

there have been some hints about him going there already, so its not too surprising. RF is a position that offers no mental challenges; he can just go out there and concentrate on hitting, which he does best. Given the nature of his sickness, being in the role with the highest daily pressure does not seem to be a good thing for him right now. Still, I dont think the Brewers would make this move if they werent feeling confident with what they have in Lucroy/Kottaras.

Final, Game Two: Brevard County 4, Bradenton (Pirates) 3, seven innings

Brevard County Game Two Box Score

OK, what's up with the wind currents at Space Coast? It's suddenly homer heaven, especially for Sean Halton, who muscles out his third this week, and another game-winner, although not a walk-off, with his 6th inning two-run line drive blast to left -- keep the trajectory low, Sean has it figured out; Halton hit a sacrifice fly early on; glad to see the Brewers didn't hesitate to move Halton to Brevard after 23 underperforming games with Wisconsin; the Manatees are in the lower third of the league in drawing bases on balls, but five different players did so in this one, including three consecutively in the opening frame; the Manatees made the most of their five hits, with Angel Salome's double the only extra-base knock other than Halton's blast; Dan Merklinger settled down after a rough three-run 1st and the game log reveals a gutty six-inning performance; lefty Dan Meadows allowed a two-out single in his scoreless 7th for the save; Shawn Zarraga was your catcher for this one...

Brevard County Game Two Game Log

Salome played clean defense in right field and was active, catching four fly balls and having a fly ball single come his way as well...

Komatsu ties it, Miranda wins it for Manatees
By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

VIERA - In the first seven-inning game
of a doubleheader, it took the Manatees ten innings but they were able
to rally twice to defeat the Bradenton Marauders 5-4 on Monday
afternoon.

It was two All-Stars for Brevard County who had a thrill of the
dramatic. Erik Komatsu had three hits, including a game-tying two-out
solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to send it to extras and Sergio
Miranda
had two hits and won it in the tenth with a two-out single to
right to score Logan Schafer.

Brevard County got on the board early in the first on a two-out two-run homer to right field off the bat of Angel Salome.

The Marauders would get one of those runs back in the second as the
first two Bradenton hitters reached on Manatee errors and then an Eric
Huber ground out plated Calvin Anderson to put the Marauders on the
board.

Manatees starter Wily Peralta would run into more trouble in the
fourth as Anderson led the inning off with a solo homer for Bradenton
to tie the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Huber walked and then
advanced to third on a ground out. Back-to-back RBI hits from Greg
Picart and Robbie Grossman gave Bradenton a 4-2 lead.

Peralta went 4 2/3 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk, while striking out three.

A sacrifice fly by Logan Schafer in the bottom of the fifth to score Komatsu cut Bradenton's lead to 4-3.

Brandon Ritchie, who came in for Peralta in the fifth, ran into some
trouble in the sixth as Bradenton had runners on second and third with
two outs. But Grossman grounded out to Miranda at third to end the
Bradenton threat.

Marauders closer Noah Krol looked for redemption after blowing a
save on Sunday, as he came in the seventh inning looking to close the
door on Brevard County. He was one out away from doing just that, but
Komatsu had other plans as he hit his first home run of the year to tie
the game.

Three innings later, with two outs in the bottom of the tenth,
Schafer singled to right and then Solome walked to put two on. Miranda
would then step up and deliver the Manatees second straight walk-off
win as he singled in Schafer to win the game for Brevard County.

Ritchie, Trey Watten and Andre Lamontagne combined for 5 1/3 innings one-hit scoreless relief against the Marauders in game one.
