If Wily Peralta pitches for Brevard tonight, it'll be on five days' rest. If he doesn't, then we'll have to wonder what may be up...

***

It would not be a shock to see the DSL team play two to make up for the May 31st rainout -- battlekow will keep an eye on that this evening for you.

Rogers was OK... not good, not bad. 85 pitches, 52 for strikes, and only 1 walk.

I don't understand the whole Narron deal, but he's picking up right where he left off, and I don't mean that in a good way.

Final: Round Rock 5, Nashville 3

Sounds fall to Express on Monday night, 5-3

Nashville Sounds

ROUND ROCK, Tex. - The Round Rock Express topped the Nashville Sounds,

5-3, on Monday evening at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock in the

third-game of a four-game series.

With the loss, Nashville (32-25) has dropped four of its last five

contests overall, with the Express also holding the Sounds to three of

fewer runs in six of the seven games between the two clubs this season.

The Sounds were also held without an extra-base hit and went 2-for-9

with runners in scoring position.

Round Rock took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame, as Express outfielder

Jason Bourgeois hit a leadoff double off former Sounds teammate Sam

Narron. After Edwin Maysonet singled over Bourgeois to third, Narron

induced an infield double play and allowed the run to score for third.

The Express added another run for a 2-0 lead in the next inning on

another infield groundout, as Yordany Ramirez grounded out to Luis Cruz

to plate Jason Castro.

After a one-out, Oswaldo Navarro double in the bottom of fourth inning,

Matt Kata hit an RBI-base knock to left field that extended the Round

Rock lead to 3-0.

After Express starting pitcher Andy Van Hekken was removed from the game

and replaced with Yorman Bazardo, the Sounds got on the board in the

top of the sixth inning and reduced the Express lead to two runs.

Nashville loaded the bases with no outs, thanks to walks from Mat Gamel

and Brendan Katin, plus a single from Erick Almonte. Cruz then brought

home the club's first run on an infield groundout to the second baseman

that scored Gamel from third. It was Cruz's 31st RBI of the season,

tying him with Joe Koshansky for the team-lead.

The Express tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth

inning. In a rehab appearance for the Brewers, reliever David Riske

allowed two two-out RBI-singles to Brian Bogusevic and Chris Johnson for

a 5-1 Round Rock advantage.

The Sounds rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning to load the bases

off reliever Tim Corcoran, but were able to only score two runs in the

final frame. With two outs and the bases juiced, Adam Stern singled up

the middle to score Johnny Raburn and Koshansky to cut the lead to

two runs. Corcoran then got Gamel to groundout and end the ballgame.

Van Hekken (3-4) earned the win, allowing one run on four hits with

three walks over five innings for Round Rock. Bazardo added three

shutout innings in relief.

Narron (0-1) took the tough loss after twirling a quality start in his

2010 Sounds debut. The 6-foot-7 left-hander surrendered three runs on

seven hits with two strikeouts over six innings pitched. A.J. Murray

provided one scoreless inning in relief.

Stern snapped out of an 0-for-17 hitless drought with a 2-for-5

performance while adding two RBIs. Almonte also went 2-for-3 with a

walk, posting a multihit-game for the ninth time in his last 12 contests

with multiple appearances.

The Sounds and Express will continue their four-game series with Tuesday

evening's 7:05 pm CT finale at The Dell Diamond. Left-hander Chris

Waters (4-2, 3.43) takes the hill for Nashville against Round Rock

right-hander Shane Loux (1-1, 9.53).

Nashville box score

You can listen to Stern's two-run single here. Gamel was 1-4 in addition to the walk and committed zero errors.

After Cruz's RBI ground out, Raburn struck out with Almonte on third and one out.

Final: Huntsville 6, Tennessee 4

Stars earn comeback win over Smokies

Aaron Morse/Huntsville Stars

Andy Machado lined a pitch past Smokies’ shortstop Marwin Gonzalez and

the Huntsville Stars (27-31) scored four runs in the eighth inning on

their way to a 6-4 win over the Tennessee Smokies (34-23) Monday night.

It was Tennessee getting on the board in the bottom of the first

against Stars’ starter Mark Rogers. Back-to-back singles by Tony Campana

and Marwin Gonzalez put runners on first and second with nobody out.

They pulled off a double steal and Rogers was in all sorts of trouble.

He managed to strike-out team RBI leader Ty Wright for the first out of

the inning. Rogers got Blake Lalli to hit a slow chopper to short which

Zelous Wheeler booted. Campana scored on the play and the Smokies had

runners at the corners with only one down. A RBI ground-out off the bat

of Robinson Chirinos made it 2-0 Smokies.

Huntsville loaded

the bases with only one away in the second inning. However Smokies’

starter Craig Muschko struck-out two straight batters to get out of the

jam unscathed.

In the top of the third, bad defense gave the

Stars a run. Brett Lawrie hit a grounder to third that Josh Vitters

threw wild to first. Muschko tried to pick him off like he had in the

first inning. The throw was wild though, and Lawrie scampered around to

third. A Lorenzo Cain ground-out drove home Lawrie to cut the deficit

to 2-1.

Tennessee smacked back-to-back singles to start the

third against Rogers. Lalli’s single sent Wright to third base and

Chirinos picked up his second RBI of the evening with a sacrifice fly to

center.

Rogers went five plus innings, giving up three runs

(two earned), on six hits. He only walked one while striking out four.

Facing a 3-1 hole, the Stars chipped away in the sixth. Caleb Gindl

struck out his first two times up, but he singled to lead off the frame.

A hit-and-run ground-out off the bat of Wheeler advanced Gindl

to second. With two away, Steffan Wilson drove a ball to center that

Campana attempted to catch on a dive. It got past him and Gindl scored

to make the score 3-2.

Muschko went six innings, scattering six

hits while giving up two runs, one of which was earned. He walked one

and struck-out eight Stars.

The Smokies took a two-run lead for

the third time in the game thanks to a Tony Thomas solo homer in the

seventh against Stars’ reliever Jim Henderson.

The Stars’ big

eighth innings started with one away when Gindl singled to left.

Wheeler hit a chopper to third that Russ Canzler had go off his glove

into shallow left field. Gindl went from first to third on the play,

which was ruled a single. Taylor Green hit a single that bounced over

the head of Lalli at first base to score Gindl and cut the Smokies’ lead

to 4-3. With runners at the corners Wilson came up big again as he

doubled to center to tie the game. That was the end of the day for

reliever Jake Muyco who went 1.1 innings out of the ‘pen.

New

pitcher Luke Sommer struck out Chuckie Caufield and intentionally walked

Dayton Buller. Machado, pinch hitting for Henderson, hit a hard

one hopper that scooted under the glove of Gonzalez, scoring Green and

Wilson. It was ruled an error, but Machado picks up the most productive

0-1 of the Stars’ season.

Robert Hinton tossed an inning of

shutout ball for his second hold of the year, and the Brandon

Kintzler-less Stars got a save from Donovan Hand. Hand threw a scoreless

ninth for his first save in 2010.

Henderson (2-0) worked two

innings for the win while Muyco (1-2) picked up the loss.

Green,

Gindl, and Wilson all had multi-hit games, with Green going 3-5 and

Wilson driving in two runs.

With the win the Stars move to 7.5

games back of Tennessee in the north division.

Amaury Rivas

(5-3, 2.64) takes the mound Tuesday as the Stars look to clinch the

series victory. First pitch is at 6:15pm central time and can be heard

on www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville box score

Lawrie was 1-5 and committed his 12th error of the year. A suddenly cold Cain was 0-5, but Gindl and Green may be heating up; Gindl walked to go with his two hits. Lee Haydel was 1-3 before Caufield pinch hit for him in the 8th.

I know they are being safe but I wish one of these game Rogers could go over 85 pitches or 5 innings.
Conventional wisdom states that they should only have him throw X% more than he did the year before. There are two ways to do it - throw more pitches but fewer starts, or more starts but fewer pitches per start. Personally, I think the thing is to see him go a full season, so I'd rather see him throw fewer pitches and go more starts than more pitches and fewer starts. Step 1 is to stretch him out over a full season; once he succeeds with that, then we'll worry about throwing 100 pitches in a start.

See I thought last season he was at 85 max also, there was one game I remember that he had i believe a no hitter through 5 and they had to pull him because he was around 85. I could be wrong though. I understand the reasoning behind it and it is smart but it would be nice to see how he does for a real non-restrict start.

TheCrew, why so negative about Narron? He had a good outing tonight and he's been good for us in the past. Plus, his Bugs Bunny changeup is awesome. I swear that it couldn't break a pane of glass.

Also, Rolando Pascual is learning the strikezone! The big righty with some Neighborgall-esque K:BB totals in the past is not at 8:0 so far this year! I don't mind the hits allowed...because he's actually making hitters have to swing!

Neighborgall-esque
Nice.
battlekow, when I worked in Dbacks minor league camp one spring, I asked if it's worth watching him throw a bullpen session. The equipment guys just laughed and said that if I want to watch, I'd better be behind him. Although looking back, the safest spot might have been directly behind the catcher http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
