Disappointed in Manny Parra

rluzinski

Maybe Parra can set up a fight with someone he can beat thereby boosting his confidence and reversing the numbers.
Parra vs. Suppan.....a battle royale for a roster spot. Winner stays, loser.....GOES HOME!!!! :-)
i realize this was a joke, but DANG, you might have been onto something with this one.
No joke. I was serious

I loved Manny last night. I'll take 4 walks and 10ks in 5+ innings. It might not be ideal but it's better than anyone not named Wolf or Gallardo on the horror that is our starting staff.

Got to stick with Manny for an extended period. He was obviously fatiguing around 85 pitches. Working quickly, throwing strikes...I think 3 of those walks came in his final inning, doesn't help that he was getting squeezed. I think I'd rather have Bush starting than Narveson, but that's nitpicky. Yo, Manny, Wolfy, Cappy, and Narvy is probably as good as the Brewers can do at this point.

How did this thread take a serious spin?
Yeah, really.

There's a sizable contingent of Yuku boards who are begging for a "static lead" option: boards would have the option to display a topic's lead post on every page of the thread. This one needs to display the lead post before every reply.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

You guys know that the reason that Fielder was pushing Parra around was because Parra pwned Fielder at Halo 3 the previous night. Fielder was mad because he didn't think it was fair that Parra got all that extra time to practice while he had to stay in the game.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

So when does this experiment end? Manny Parra is the Bill Travers of this version of the Milwaukee Brewers. The sad thing is Parra is not getting any better where as Travers did.

Manny ran out of gas in the 6th again tonight. Was glad to see he only allowed 1 run but shouldn't you ask that much vs. the D-Backs?

Parra as has been observed elsewhere as being suited for long relief or maybe even a specialty pitcher to get lefties out. The Brewers are pressed for pitching and unfortunately Manny will get the ball every 5th day.

Well it's something I hope the Brewers management will address in the upcoming off season.

It was a pretty bad outing despite only 1 run. In the 4th inning he had the bases loaded with nobody out and got lucky with a line out and flyout. He also walked a total of 6.

I've been a big supporter of Parra, but after the year is over it might be time to contemplate a move to the bullpen. He has 424 IP over 4 MLB seasons and his ERA is 5.28 and his WHIP is 1.657. He turns 28 in October and it's becoming harder to look at his potential based on minor league and peripheral stats and easier to evaluate his actual talent based on his performance over these last 4 years.

The reason I think Manny has struggled isn't his fastball; it's that he has a hard time being efficient with his offspeed stuff. He hasn't been efficient with his offspeed stuff, and that means he wastes pitches & has to groove his fastball. Maybe I'm just missing the obvious, but when he commands his offspeed stuff well, it's nasty.

Otherwise, he winds up wasting a bunch of pitches and is at a pitch count of 100 by the 5th or 6th inning.

I tend to agree with Ennder. It's about his fastball. He can throw strikes with it, but he doesn't really command it. It also has little movement at all. That leads to his inefficiency with his offspeed stuff, because he doesn't trust in his own ability to throw a fastball where he wants and he knows he won't be able to miss the sweet spot on the bat with it. It's gotten to the point with me where he's almost unwatchable.

I think the real reason he isn't effective and why he gets gassed by the 6th inning is the Rluz has his car, and Manny has to ride his bike to the games. That takes a lot out of him. Russ, please give Manny his car back so that he can throw another perfect game.

I inquired about a 2011 Malibu 2LT and was told that it was Manny Parra's demo. They guy can't get himself into the LTZ trim or what? Maybe BR.net could take up a collection for the struggling lefty?
Based on the fact that this thread has strayed so far off topic, I'm closing it. If someone wants to discuss Manny Parra's performance on the mound, feel free to comment in either a new or existing thread.
