Dennis with a real nice back handed stab in the 2nd to record an out and then another nice play by Dhanani. Heckathorn with 2 ground outs and strike out in 8 pitches if my math was correct. Good pitching and good defense make me happy.

And as I type this Dykstra goes yard. This has been a very enjoyable game so far.

Chris just said Mike Trout hit his 6th HR of the season, I sincerely hope he's promoted before the T-Rats see Cedar Rapids again. I'm beginning to dread playing them as much as I was dreading Beloit's pitching earlier this season.

Bowman hit by a line drive in the 1st inning and is pulled from the game, when is this injury bug going to land on someone else? The injuries in the minors the last 2 seasons have been ridiculous.

Ha the guys on the major league forum won't like this but it worked out. Heckathorn gave up a lead off double, the runner moved to 3rd on a 6-3, Isom moves the IF in, the next batter grounds it to Gennett who makes a good pick and a poor throw but Garfield recovers in time to get the tying run at home. 1 out from Heckathorn completing his 3rd 7 IP outing a in row.

edit. Wooo! A 3-2 CU freezes the hitter and Heckathorn is out of the inning, going to the change in a 3-2 count is a very good sign.

TheCrew, it's also 4 straight starts of 6 or more innings. I'm sure the Brewers would love to be able to move some of these guys up. Heckathorn might be a candidate to pitch the whole year in A, then jump to AA next year

Hey Garfield gunned a base stealer when I listening! This has been a very good game, and Chris if you read this I completely agree about Odorizzi getting jobbed for pitcher of the week. I think Heckathorn is making case as well with 14 IP and 2 runs allowed, a lack of gaudy strike out totals will probably hurt his case though.

The T-Rats win on a wild strike em out throw em out, I was worried they were going to blow their 3rd game in the 9th inning out of the last 6.

Ten-run 2nd inning for the Stars, wow -- first nine men reached on six base hits and three walks, including a two-run double by relief pitcher Donovan Hand. Taylor Green capped the scoring with a three-run blast, nice!

Final: Wisconsin 2, Fort Wayne 1

Heckathorn helps Rattlers snap streak

Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

FORT WAYNE,

IN – Kyle Heckathorn pitched well again and the Wisconsin offense

did just enough for a 2-1 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps Tuesday

night at

Parkview Field. Heckathorn allowed one run in seven innings of work and

struck

out six for his third win of the season. The Rattlers ended a five-game

losing streak with the win.

Cutter

Dykstra broke the scoreless tie with a solo homer in the top of the

fourth.

The long home run to left-center was the first for Dykstra since he

rejoined

the Rattlers in early May.

Fort Wayne (27-26)

tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Jon Alia singled to start

the

inning with a single. One out later, Dean Anna doubled to center and

Alia

scored. The would not score again.

The TinCaps

had a good opportunity to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth

inning. They loaded the bases with one out on two singles and an

error. But, Heckathorn struck out the next two batters to keep the game

tied.

Timber

Rattlers catcher Cameron Garfield singled with two outs in the top of

the sixth

inning. Pete Fatse followed with a double to score Garfield all the way

from first to put Wisconsin (19-33) back in front.

Edinson

Rincon doubled to start the bottom of the seventh inning. He moved to

third with the tying run on an infield grounder. Wisconsin brought the

infield in and the strategy paid off. Rymer Liriano sent a grounder to

second and Scooter Gennett’s throw to the plate was in time for out

number two. Heckathorn struck out Anna to end the inning.

The

right-hander pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run for the

third

straight start for Wisconsin. He has struck out 16 and walked two in

his

last 21 innings. But, he needed the bullpen to hang on for the win.

Jon Pokorny

relieved Heckathorn to start the eighth and got the first out. But a

walk

to Jonathan Valdez put the tying run on first. Valdez was 13-for-14 in

stolen base attempts coming into Tuesday’s game. He was 13-for-15

after Tuesday’s game. He tried to steal second on an 0-2 pitch to

Danny Payne. Garfield threw a strike to second to nip Valdez for out

number two. Pokorny struck out Payne on the next pitch.

In the ninth,

Pokorny added to the degree of difficulty. He walked Jason Hagerty and

gave up a single to Rincon. Jeudy Valdez pinch ran for Hagerty after

the

walk and he was at second base with Alia at the plate.

Pokorny

struck out Alia on a pitch in the dirt and Valdez thought the ball got

away

from Garfield. The pinch runner realized his mistake too late a tried

to

scramble back to second. But, he saw that Garfield’s throw back would

beat him to the base. Valdez desperately reversed direction and tried

to

make third base. But, Michael Marseco’s throw to Kyle Dhanani at

third was on target and the Rattlers ended the game with that unorthodox

double

play.

Game two of

the series at Parkview Field is Wednesday night. Nick Bucci (3-1, 1.82)

is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Fort Wayne

has

Jerry Sullivan (4-2, 3.23) as their scheduled starter.

Tune in for

the action on AM1280, WNAM. The Miller Lite Pregame Show begins at

5:45pm. Game time is 6:05pm CDT.

Wisconsin box score

Heckathorn struck out six, walked none, and allowed five hits, while getting 11 ground outs against four air outs--great effort. Uncharacteristic lack of control from Pokorny, but he got the job done. Great to see Garfield have some success throwing out runners, too. Gennett posted his usual 2-4 line, with one of his hits being a double. Dykstra added a walk to his homer. Khris Davis and Chris Dennis were both 0-4, and D'Vontrey Richardson did not play.

A couple of nice pitching performances tonight (Heckathorn, Peralta) and some major offense by Huntsville. I know I sound like a broken record but Cain's improved eye at the plate is really incredible. 2 more walks tonight gives him 21 in 132 at bats (game in the 6th). Compare that to last season when he had 20 in 206 ABs all year.

Final: Brevard County 6, Jupiter 1

Brevard County box score

Wily Peralta tossed five strong innings for the win, allowing just a run on five hits and a walk, striking out four. He didn't keep the ball on the ground as well as he usually does, three ground outs against five air outs, but no matter. Despite walking four and hitting a batter, Brandon Ritchie followed with three shutout innings, and Andre Lamontage worked a scoreless 9th with two strikeouts in his first game for the Manatees. Juan Sanchez had two hits, while Josh Prince and Sean Halton each singled and walked, and Erik Komatsu and Shawn Zarraga each had a double. Komatsu and Halton were also each hit by a pitch, and Prince stole his 13th base. Kentrail Davis again did not play.

Heckathorn first 6 games(2 starts):

1-3 W/L --19.1IP/5.18 ERA/ 7BB/ 22K/ 1.31 WHIP

Heckathorn's last 4 games(4 starts):

2-0 W/L-- 27IP/1.00 ERA/2BB/19K/1.00 WHIP

Pretty darn impressive 4 game stretch for Kyle! Seems that he is really settling into his starter role. Hopefully he can continue this few more outings and get promoted up to Brevard County (The Brewers appeared to have wanted to fast track Arnett but that is no longer a realistic option) mid as well sub Heckathorn for Arnett in that plan.
