SCOUTING REPORT:

Jones is an extremely athletic prospect, although football has always come first for him, recently drafted in the third round of the NFL draft by the Giants this past April. On the gridiron he is a hard-hitting safety with ballhawking skills, and on the baseball diamond he has played both the outfield and has pitched for LSU. He served some key roles last year during LSU's championship season, coming out of the bullpen to record some key outs down the stretch, reaching the low-90s with his fastball and also throwing an explosive breaking ball as a left-handed pitcher. His time was limited last spring as he took a few weeks off from baseball to be part of the football team's spring practices. As an outfielder he has good speed and a strong arm with a promising and powerful left-handed bat at the plate. Jones seems intent on playing in the NFL, so I wouldn't expect him to pursue any kind of a baseball career.
