ROUND 25: Nick Shaw - SS

5'11", ?, L/R, Barry University

http://www.barry.edu/athletics/images/26Nick_Shaw08Belmont34.jpg

SCOUTING REPORT:

Shaw has been a steady offensive performer at Barry University since his freshman year. He employs a very patient approach at the plate, and recently set the NCAA record for career walks with 215, drawing 49 this past year. He has a quick bat although there isn't much power to his swing. He is a smaller athlete with good quickness but may be a better fit at second base.

NOTES

& INFO:

Born 8/25/88.

Hit .358/.482/.492 in 249 PA.

First Team Sunshine State Conference.

Holds NCAA career mark for walks with 215.

ROUND 26: Daniel Gibson - LHP

6'2", 219, R/L, Jesuit HS (FL)

http://hometeam.s3.amazonaws.com/%2Fblog-photos%2FSP_305461_LYTT_BASEBALL_6.JPG

SCOUTING REPORT:

Gibson was rising up some draft boards this spring as his usual upper-80s to low-90s velocity spiked to the 93-94 range on occasion. He is a projectable lefty that does a good job commanding a nice three-pitch mix, including a curveball and a changeup. His curveball needs more consistency, and he needs more experience throwing his changeup, but both pitches have a good foundation. He has an athletic and strong frame and repeats his delivery well. As a 26th-round pick, it may be difficult to keep him away from his commitment to the University of Florida.

ROUND 27: Alex Jones - RHP

6'6", 190, R/R, Jacksonville State University

http://www.jsugamecocksports.com/images/2009/12/9/headshot_2_Jones_Alex.jpg

SCOUTING REPORT:

Jones missed the 2009 season after having Tommy John surgery, and returned this year to replace Ben Tootle as the Gamecocks' primary closer. He has shown electric stuff and a deceptive low three-quarters delivery that is almost a side-arm approach similar to Chad Bradford. Jones' best pitch is slider that has very good two-plane break, and he also throws his fastball in the low-90s. His stuff returned this spring, but is still working on improving his command.

ROUND 30: Eric Marzec - RHP

6'0", 190, R/R, Youngstown State University

(Ron Stevens/Youngstown State)

SCOUTING REPORT:

Marzec really emerged this spring while focusing on pitching after being used more as an outfielder during his college career. He was used primarily as a relief pitcher this spring before he made two starts late in the season. His fastball sits in the 89-91 range and has touched 93. He also throws a plus slider, his best pitch, giving him the potential for two solid pitches should the Brewers continue to develop him as a short reliever.

ROUND 31: Mike Melillo - C

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2764/4480111409_4bd714eeb5_m.jpg

(Brad Coville)

SCOUTING REPORT:

Melillo has put up big numbers offensively in college, leaving Elon as the school's all-time home run king with 39 bombs. He has an aggressive swing and gets good extension, but may be prone to strikeouts. His bat is ahead of his glove at this stage in his baseball development, but he has seen a lot of time behind the plate the last few years.

ROUND 32: Jason Rogers - 1B

6'2", 250, R/R, Columbus State University

http://www.csucougars.com/sports/bsb/2009-10/photos/09-10Action_Shots/rogersHR_urbana.jpg?max_width=530&max_height=310&crop=true

SCOUTING REPORT:

Rogers is a huge, hulking slugger that blasted 26 home runs this year, on his way to being named the Peach Belt Conference's player of the year. It's easy to see where his power comes from, with a barrel chest, thick forearms and a thick lower half, built somewhat similar to the Brewers current first baseman Prince Fielder. Conditioning will be a concern with Rogers, although he shows good athleticism for his body type. He will have to prove he can be productive swinging a wood bat against better competition on a daily basis, but could return to school for his senior year of eligibility.

ROUND 33: William Kankel - LHP

5'10", 177, L/L, University of Houston

http://images.chron.com/photos/2010/03/27/21024327/600xPopupGallery.jpg

(Bob Levey/Houston Chronicle)

SCOUTING REPORT:

Kankel is yet another recently converted positional player as a former outfielder with a plus arm. He moved to the mound this spring for the Cougars, and while he flashed plus velocity on his fastball, he really struggled with command and his secondary offerings. As a lefty that can sit around 90 mph, he'll be given plenty of chances to succeed, but will require patience to develop properly.

ROUND 34: Conor Fisk - RHP

6'2", ?, R/R, Grafton HS (WI)

http://cdn.ngin.com/attachments/photo/0304/3701/PICT8245_large.jpg

(Wisconsin RockHounds)

SCOUTING REPORT:

Fisk consistently throws in the 88-90 range, and touched 92 a few times this spring. He also throws a slider and is working on a changeup, although he needs more experience throwing both pitches. Overall he is more of a thrower than a pitcher at this point in time, and will need more innings to hone his craft. He has thick proportions and will have to work hard to keep his conditioning in check, but if he does so should be a strong and sturdy right-hander whose velocity could improve over the next two or three years as he continues to improve on his entire game.

ROUND 35: Tc Mark - C

6'1", 205, L/R, Pinnacle HS (AZ)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/tcmark.jpg

SCOUTING REPORT:

Mark is a mature big-bodied slugger who currently catches but may have to move to either first base or left field at the next level. He doesn't have the quickness to stay behind the plate, and the lack of foot speed may also limit him to first. He has a big, powerful left-handed swing that can crush pitches with intriguing home run power.

ROUND 36: R.J. Johnson - RHP

6'3", 185, R/R, Starkville HS (MS)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/rjjohnson.jpg

SCOUTING REPORT:

Johnson is an exciting athlete, with true 5-tool potential that starred at both shortstop and on the mound. He has good power potential and speed and was one of the more exciting offensive performers in Mississippi. The Brewers drafted Johnson for his promise on the mound, with a tall, lithe and fluid body and overall delivery. He throws in the upper-80s with inconsistent secondary offerings, but a ton of potential for more. His delivery and mechanics need work as well, and just needs as much experience as he can get to smooth out the rough edges.

NOTES

Born 3/23/1992.

Has offers from LSU-Eunice and Wallace State (AL). Also considering Meridian CC.

ROUND 37: Seth Harvey - RHP

6'2", 210, L/R, Washington State University

http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/68/681268m.jpg

SCOUTING REPORT:

Harvey is a college senior who has spent his entire career coming out of the bullpen for the Cougars. Due to the lack of consistent secondary pitches, he struggled in a limited role serving as his team's closer, although he does have a good fastball that can approach the mid-90s. He's a strong-bodied righty that likely will serve a key relief role in the lower levels of the system.

ROUND 40: Scott Matyas - RHP

http://image.cdnl3.xosnetwork.com/pics9/640/DP/DPZNIFFXWKDFPGD.20080324223803.jpg

(Gopher Sports)

SCOUTING REPORT:

Matyas' arm strength was well known coming out of high school, as he also served as Kettle Moraine's quarterback, but he lacked polish and a solid secondary offering. He has worked hard on his game and has developed a pretty good slider, which is now his best pitch. He profiles best in short relief, throwing consistently in the upper-80s to low-90s, and has a tall, athletic frame.

ROUND 42: Johnny Dishon - OF

http://image.cdnl3.xosnetwork.com/pics10/200/UG/UGGCOBZCEXQJOGS.20091202180958.jpg

(LSU Sports)

SCOUTING REPORT:

Dishon is a very gifted athlete with close to 5-tool potential, highlighted by his speed. He hasn't received much playing time in his three years at LSU, red-shirting during his true sophomore year due since it would have been tough for him to get regular playing time given the presence of players such as Jared Mitchell, Leon Landry and Mikie Mahtook. He did play in the Valley League last summer and was named one of the circuit's top prospects. He has good power potential at the plate and a strong arm, and could end up being an exciting centerfielder if all of the tools come together for him. He may be inclined to return to LSU for his junior year of athletic eligibility.

Max Preps

SCOUTING REPORT:

Goodwin is known for his defensive skills, with a strong arm and a quick transfer. He has decent quickness behind the plate and shows an advanced ability of blocking balls in the dirt. He has a strong, compact frame with some bat speed and pop in his swing, but his defense is ahead of his bat at this stage in his development. Like most catchers, he doesn't run particularly well.
