Are we primed for a rally?

monty57

How can Hoffman's outing be considered "good." Because he didn't give up any runs to the Astros?

By Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel

Trevor Hoffman takes over for what could be his final tune-up before returning to the closer's role. He's not as sharp as Sunday in Minnesota but escapes unscathed. With one down, Pence singles to center. Lee flies out to left but Berkman draws a four-pitch walk to put two runners on. Hoffman escapes when Feliz fouls out.

If we are looking for a rally, aka winning streak, letting Hoffman pitch the ninth in a save situation is part of why it will not happen. 50% success rates, both in clean innings and save chances, is not a key to success.

sheethead, his inning wasn't really all that different from a lot of his saves last year. It's not like he was ever a huge strikeout guy to begin. Actually the big difference last night compared to earlier this season is that the flyout by Lee would have probably been a home run.
