Ouch. Looks like Scooter and D'Vo missed the team bus. Good to see Khris Davis back in the field tonight though.

Yep Chris just talked about it at length..

edit. Scarpetta missed a bus last year as well?

Chris just reported Odorizzi's last 3 pitches on the stadium gun as 93, 93, 94... with a mid 90s pitch count, that's pretty exciting.

Draft followers will remember C Max Stassi who was fairly hyped as a high school player last year and drafted by Oakland in the 4th signing for a 1st round bonus, which I seem to remember seeing it was something like 1.5 mil He sure has been on a horrible slide here his last 10 games, check out his line. Even with that slide his stats are still respectable given his age.

Final: Wisconsin 3, Kane County 0

Odorizzi tosses zeroes at Kane County

Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GENEVA, IL –

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers started their longest road trip of the

2010

season on the right foot with a 3-0 win over the Kane County Cougars.

Starting

pitcher Jake Odorizzi struck out seven over seven shutout innings to

lead the Rattlers

to victory in the first game of a 13-game road swing. Pete Fatse

homered

and drove in two runs for the Rattlers Tuesday night at Elfstrom

Stadium.

Wisconsin has won four straight games.

The Cougars

(20-26) had a chance to score first. Chris Affanito singled and Mike

Gilmartin

doubled to right-center to put runners on second and third. The

Rattlers

infield was playing back and Tyreace House sent a hard grounder to

shortstop

Michael Marseco. Instead of going to first for the out, Marseco came

home

and threw out the slow-running Affanito. Odorizzi got the final out of

the inning to keep the game in a scoreless tie.

Fatse put the

Rattlers (17-28) in front with a leadoff homer in the fifth inning. It

was the third home run of the season for Fatse.

Wisconsin

tacked on two more runs in the sixth. Khris Davis singled in Franklin

Romero, Jr. from second base early in the inning. Fatse struck again

with

a two-out RBI single to knock in Erik Miller for a 3-0 advantage.

But, the

story was Odorizzi. He worked around five hits and two walks over his

seven innings and kept the Cougars off the scoreboard. In the seventh,

he

walked the leadoff batter, but got a 1-6-3 double play for two outs.

Then, he blew a fastball past Affanito to catch the Cougars’ designated

hitter looking at strike three. His seven innings pitched was a career

high as a professional. The seven strikeouts was one shy of his

professional high in a single game.

Odorizzi

turned the game over to Caleb Thielbar and the lefty worked a scoreless

eighth

and a 1-2-3 ninth for his first professional save.

Game two is

set for Wednesday night at Elfstrom Stadium. Eric Arnett (0-4, 8.57) is

the scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers. Kane County will send

Ian

Krol (2-2, 2.00) to the mound. Game time is 6:00pm. Tune in to

AM1280 WNAM starting at 5:40pm for the Miller Lite Pregame Show for all

of the

Timber Rattlers action.

Wisconsin box score

Hey, four in a row! With Arnett pitching tomorrow, getting to five may be interesting; the Rattlers are 2-6 in Arnett's starts this year. Fantastic effort tonight from Odorizzi, and I'm glad to read reports of him blowing guys away with the fastball. Davis tripled to go along with his RBI single; he and Fatse were the only Rattlers with multiple hits. Cutter Dykstra was 1-4 and Chris Davis 0-4. Scotter Gennett and D'Vontrey Richardson missed the bus and the game.

Final: Daytona 5, Brevard County 3

Brevard County box score

Josh Butler, still shaking the rust off, allowed a run on a hit and three walks in 2.1 innings, striking out one. Mike Fiers relieved and, though his peripherals were decent--5.2 innings, five hits, five strikeouts, two hit batsmen, one walk--two poorly timed extra-base hits netted the Cubs all five of their runs. Kentrail Davis, showing some welcome signs of life, was on base in his first three plate appearances on a triple, a single, and a HBP; the triple is just his sixth extra-base hit of the year and the HBP already his ninth in 129 PAs. Sergio Miranda and Erik Komatsu also had two hits, and Komatsu added a walk, while Josh Prince was 1-5. The 'Tees had a good night on the basepaths: Davis stole two bases, eight on the year for him now, while Komatsu remained perfect, nabbing his 13th, and Prince tallied his 11th. Matt Cline was 0-4 in his return to the lineup, and Mat Gamel was 0-3 with two walks.

Daytona Delivers in the Clutch With 5-3 Win

Daytona Cubs' Site Report

The Daytona Cubs (21-25) knocked off the Brevard County Manatees (16-29) 5-3. Brooks Raley (2-3) delivered six quality innings in lieu for his second win in as many tries. Kyler Burke drove in three with his third home run. The Cubs win streak has hit four games which is a season high in 2010.

Brevard County struck first against Cubs starter Brooks Raley. Center fielder Kentrail Davis led off the game with a triple to the gap in right-center. Raley got the next two batters, but gave up a single to second baseman Sergio Miranda to give the Manatees a 1-0 advantage.

Daytona took the lead in the third inning thanks to a blast off the bat of Kyler Burke. Second baseman D.J. LeMahieu reached with a one-out walk off of Josh Butler who made a major league rehab start for Brevard County. LeMahieu was the last batter Butler faced before Michael Fiers came in. The righty gave up a single to third baseman Ryan Flaherty to set the table for Burke. With a stiff wind blowing in from right, Burke crushed a Fiers offering over the right field wall just inside the foul pole to give Daytona a 3-1 lead.

The Cubs made it 5-1 in the fourth inning on a triple by LeMahieu. Catcher Michael Brenly singled to right field and center fielder Brett Jackson walked to put two on with two outs for LeMahieu. The LSU-product rifled a ball to straight-away center field for his third triple of the season that scored Brenly and Jackson.

The Manatees closed the gap to three with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Davis was hit by a Raley offering to start off the inning. Shortstop Josh Prince singled up the middle to put runners on the corners. Davis came home on a ground ball off the bat of right fielder Erik Komatsu that resulted in a Junior Lake error.

The Manatees struck with a single tally in the eighth inning on a wild pitch from Aaron Shafer. Shafer struck out Brock Kjeldgaard with the bases loaded, but the delivery was off target and Mat Gamel scored to bring the Manatees within 5-3. Shafer ended up pitching three innings including a perfect ninth inning to record his second save in 2010.

Raley worked a career-high six innings against the Manatees. The lefty struck out three on the night and gave up just five hits with the two runs.

Fiers (2-5) took the loss.

The Cubs and Manatees wrap up their series down at Space Coast Stadium on Wednesday evening at 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

Final: Nashville 8, Sacramento 1

Olmedo, Sounds slam River Cats, 8-1

Nashville Sounds

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Second baseman Ray Olmedo belted a grand slam

to lead the Nashville Sounds to an 8-1 victory over the host Sacramento

River Cats on Tuesday evening at Raley Field.

With the win, Nashville (26-18) maintained its one-game division lead

and snapped a seven-game losing streak to Sacramento, defeating the

River Cats for the first time since the 2008 season.

The game began almost an hour late due to a rain delay.

Nashville took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run against River Cats

starter Fernando Hernandez in the top of the first inning. Josh Anderson

(2-for-3) led off the contest with a single and later scored the game's

first run on Erick Almonte's two-out RBI single.

Olmedo's grand slam, the Sounds' first of the season, highlighted a

five-run second inning as the Nashville lead increased to 6-0. Adam

Stern led off with a single and scored when Luis Cruz followed with an

RBI double to center. Ben Johnson was hit by a pitch and Anderson

reached on a missed catch error during a sacrifice bunt attempt to load

the bases for Olmedo, who belted his second home run of the year to

right off Hernandez for the slam.

The Sounds tacked on another run in the fifth when Almonte doubled to

right with one out and later scored when River Cats left fielder Corey

Wimberly committed an error on a two-out fly ball hit by Stern, making

it a 7-0 contest.

Nashville plated its third unearned run of the evening an inning later

to extend the advantage to 8-0. Anderson drew a one-out walk from River

Cats reliever Justin Souza, moved to third on an Olmedo infield single

combined with a throwing error by second baseman Adrian Cardenas, and

scored on a Trent Oeltjen groundout.

Sacramento finally got on the board in the home half of the sixth when

Sounds starter Chuck Lofgren issued a two-out, bases-loaded walk to Eric

Sogard.

Lofgren (6-3) picked up his team-leading sixth victory of the year for

Nashville. The left-hander held Sacramento to one run on four hits but

also walked five batters in his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Tim Dillard closed out the win with three innings of scoreless, one-hit

ball to nail down his first save of the year for the Sounds.

Hernandez (0-4) remained winless on the year for the River Cats as he

absorbed the loss after surrendering seven runs (four earned) in his

four frames of action.

The teams continue the series with a 1:35 p.m. CT matinee on Wednesday, a

morning start in California. Left-hander Chase Wright (3-1, 3.77) will

take the hill for the Sounds to face Sacramento left-hander John Halama,

who will make his first appearance of the year after signing with the

A's as a minor league free agent. Halama spent 2010 spring training with

the Brewers organization.

Nashville box score

Lofgren struck out only two, and he and Dillard each hit two batters. For some reason, Nashville's site renders Lofgren's name as "Löfgren", which I think would be a humorous, possibly ironic nickname for him in the "über"/heavy-metal umlaut style. Adam Heether was 0-5.
