The battle for worst in the NL Central.....who will win? Or is it lose? I guess lose, because by losing you would claim being the worst. Anyway.....just don't look awful Crew!!!

Ya, I was going to make some header graphic that said "Battle for the Bottom", but decided that was just to pessimistic for this series, seeing as we'd have to get swept for that to happen. And if that happens, I'll probably want to rename it something to do with a suicide watch.

Behold the Sixth Place Series. This appears to be another of those "something has to give" situations - Milwaukee's dour home record vs. Houston's not-much-better road record - but that makes me think back two weeks to the last "something has to give" series with Atlanta, and we know how that went.

I am hoping to see some J. Lucroy behind the plate tonight, and not just to catch the ceremonial first pitch(es). Come on, Brewers.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Lucroy gets first start

By Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel

Newly summoned catcher Jonathan Lucroy is getting his first start behind the plate tonight for the Brewers as they open a home stand against Houston at Miller Park.

George Kottaras started all three games in Minnesota over the weekend after No. 1 catcher Gregg Zaun went on the DL with a strained shoulder. Lucroy was summoned from Class AAA Nashville to replace Zaun and now gets his first start.

Here are the lineups:

Brewers

2B Rickie Weeks

CF Carlos Gomez

LF Ryan Braun

1B Prince Fielder

3B Casey McGehee

RF Corey Hart

SS Alcides Escobar

C Jonathan Lucroy

LHP Randy Wolf

Astros

CF Michael Bourn

2B Jeff Keppinger

1B Lance Berkman

LF Carlos Lee

RF Hunter Pence

3B Pedro Feliz

C Humberto Quintero

SS Tommy Manzella

RHP Felipe Paulino

And I just saw a very welcomed sight out on the field. Bullpen coach Stan Kyles is back in uniform and working with the relief pitchers at Miller Park. It's been about a month since Kyles left the club to undergo prostate cancer surgery. I heard he was doing well and obviously he is, being back here in uniform. That's very good news.

And here's a tidbit on the Brewers' minor league report. Remember RHP Jeff Bennett, who pitched for the Brewers in 2004 as a Rule 5 pick out of Pittsburgh? The Brewers have re-signed Bennett to a minor league deal and assigned him to extended spring training in Phoenix.

Bennett was pitching for Tampa Bay's Class AAA affiliate this year and was released after going 0-3 with a 10.97 ERA in three starts. He split the '09 season with Atlanta and Tampa Bay.

Any chance the weather forecast shows a giant vortex of suck developing over Miller Park?

Lucroy looked pretty bad catching that curve. He was getting out of his crouch like it was gonna end up in the batters box and then had to reach back towards the plate to catch it.
Remember what Yoda said:
