New Water Softener

My water softener just took a dump and it looks like I will need to replace one. I have a Culligan man coming early next week, but I wanted to see if anyone else had to replace one recently or is in the biz and would be able to give me an idea about costs/features I should be looking for. I've owned my house for 5+ years now, and inherited this softener, so I've never had to shop for one.

Any words of wisdom??
