Bed Bugs

panthernick
Yeah, you heard right. My apartment building has them. My roommate has gotten bit probably close to 100 times by them. I fortunately haven't been touched. Anyone know of any legal recourse we may have against the landlord? I am worried we will have to throw out our beds and couches.

i don't know about milwaukee, though they should have one, but Madison has a government service to help tennants know their rights. i've used them before when there were rats in the apartment building. sorry i don't have a link, but they should be searchable.

I wonder if we live in the same building because I too am dealing with bed bugs right now. There is really nothing legally for you to do if the landlord gets the exterminator in there and tries to get rid of them. I had to throw out my mattress, box spring, and frame because of the bugs and my renters insurance did not cover the loss.

I want to emphasize that you absolutely need to have an exterminator come out to deal with the problem. Bed bugs are impossible to get rid of on your own and from what I am finding is that it takes multiple trips from the exterminator to make things better. I have had the exterminator out twice in the past month and I occasionally find a bug or two but I am going to continue to have the exterminator out until I am certain that they are gone. The landlord is responsible for paying for the landlord and if your landlord says that they won't pay, then you may want to give the city a call.

Yeah I live on the Eastside. Apparently like half of our building is being treated today. (Most likely like 100 units). This has been a huge inconvience. I hope they just take care of the problem and it is gone cause like I said, I haven't been bit yet, but my roomie is freaking out cause he has gotten absolutely tattoo'd by them.

If you live in an apartment building on Commerce St. let me know because I'd be very interested in hearing more about the current situation by you. The fact that they are treating all of the units is a good idea and I don't think that my apartment manager is doing that. I kind of wish that they would.

Nope, I'm on Oakland Ave. I just hope they take care of this quickly. Nice to know the whole city is becoming infected. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif After reading online about these things I wish DDT hadn't gotten outlawed. Don't worry, I'm just kidding. Sort of.
