Chris at the Rattler Radio Blog:

Fox 11 had this story on Carlos Gomez and his rehab appearance with the Rattlers.

***

What a way to go out.

This blog entry about last night's 15 inning game was the final one that Brett Christopherson made as the beat writer of the Timber Rattlers.

Brett let Chris know awhile ago that he would soon be promoted at the Post-Crescent. Yesterday was his last official game as the beat writer of the Rattlers.

Read more at the "way to go out" link above.

Brewerfan echoes that sentiment. Brett's stuff was awesome. Big shoes to fill...

The Stars are facing Mike Minor tonight, the 7th pick in last year's draft and #2 on this week's Baseball America Prospect Hot Sheet:

The Scoop: When the Braves

drafted Minor, they were supposed to be getting a polished lefty with a

feel for pitching and good command—but a less-than-impressive fastball.

But this year Minor's 88-89 mph fastball has sat 90-93 and has touched

95. He hasn't really overhauled his delivery, so the velocity seems to

have come from just getting an offseason to rest and recover after a

busy college/amateur career. It took a little while for Minor to harness

that increased velocity, but now that he has, he's been dominating

Double-A. He was thought of as a relatively safe pick but with limited

upside, but no expectations have been adjusted upward.

Sigh.

Burlington Top 1st

  • Deivy Batista singles on a ground
    ball to shortstop Michael Marseco.
  • Carlo Testa singles on a
line drive to left fielder Khristopher Davis. Deivy Batista to 2nd.
  • William
Myers homers (6) on a fly ball to center field. Deivy Batista scores.
    Carlo Testa scores.

Man what's going on with the pitching today? Cody who has been bad is the only Starting Pitcher thus far not to get shelled? I want a do over for the entire organization.

Bush gives up 7 runs. Peralta gives up 8 but only 4 are earned. Arnett whom I'm starting to lose patience with gives up 6 already but at least he's still pitching.

Bush gives up 7 runs.

Ouch. And thus goes a taboo, not mentioning the big league game, which I've got on DVR, while the daughter wraps up a movie. Figured this forum was a safe haven.

Oh well, thanks for sparing me the pain, anyway....

I'm sorry Mass, guess I'm too hateful... and Cline was my beat the streak player today.. I hope he's alright, he's having a wonderful season.

Just another hideous line for Eric Arnett -- 5.2 innings, 13 hits, five for extra bases, three walks, two wild pitches, seven runs, all earned. Jon Pokorny stranded two Arnett baserunners or it could have been worse.

The "kid" turned 22 back in January and can't fool a single Midwest League team.

Burlington scored in every full Arnett inning tonight.

Not having him start the season in Brevard was a huge red flag for me when rosters were announced. The Brewers didn't think he should coming out of spring training.

I'm now officially sick over this draft pick. Hello, Prospect Hot Sheet, who's not, next week.

I started the year concerned about Howell, but right now I feel better about him than Arnett. I'm up for sending Arnett back to EST and bringing up Seidel or Adams (shouldn't his suspension be over soon/already as I'm too lazy to look?)... or just forget the tandem thing with Heckathorn and give both him and Lasker their own rotation slots.

It'd be one thing if Arnett were some 19-year-old a year out of high school.

I've asked the guys over at Baseball America to try and identify for us a high college draft pick pitcher who got off to an equally unimpressive start, who then went on to blossom into a true big league starting rotation keeper.

I found it hard to buy into the Brewers' whole "we're holding back the reins on his repertoire" while at Helena last season. The fact was that he never came close to impressing against Pioneer League hitters, either.

Stars up, 2-0 after four. Chris Cody amazingly has allowed eight baserunners in four innings, but no runs. A Lee Haydel outfield assist at the plate in the 3rd -- and escaping a bases loaded, no out jam in the 4th.

I really wanted Trout but the Angels snatched him right before our pick. I never was high on Arnett and didn't really like the pick as much as everyone but I never thought he'd struggle this bad! I hope he can pull it together and soon

The thing that's odd about Arnett is that it's not like he was a "Fredericksonian" pick, where people were like, where did that come from? But he was rated a solid 1st rounder. It's hard to imagine he is not injured. 22 year old college pitchers, even roster fillers, can usually get out A-ball hitters. So much for him being "fast tracked".
