I don't understand it either, trwi. And not even that strict pitch count decisions are the way to go, but it was clear that Wolf was struggling last inning. I know the team needs a deep outing from a starting pitcher, but you can't just conjure up what isn't there. Time to go get him.

Well, nice example of why Macha should be fired here. Wolf never should have started the inning, and leaving him in to flounder was just lunacy.

And I was almost stunned that Weeks didn't at least knock that ball down on the tying hit. Not sure why they'd shade a pull hitter so far up the middle.

You know, I'm not even sweating these late innings situations anymore. Kind of like watching my daughter's junior high hoops game. Anything good will only be a welcome surprise, and no loss is crushing as it is now expected. Kind of nice once you let go of expectation.
You did a beautiful job with that analogy summing up how I feel right now. Bad managing? eh. Bloop single to lose the lead? whatever.

Leaving starting pitchers in for 120 pitches isn't a good idea. How has Macha not learned this yet?
Leaving any Brewers pitcher in for any number of pitches isn't a good idea.

Honestly, I like Macha bullying his starters to get the point across.

I'm not one to blame everything on Macha, but this is another in a long line of bad pitching decisions. No matter how you slice it, he was at least one batter too late on Wolf and probably more like two. It seems to happen all the time. Poor performance is difficult to prevent. But managers do control timing, and they need to do it in a way that gives the team the best chance to win. Macha has done that maybe twice all year. It might be time to move on. It's still early enough that something like a manager change might actually have a positive impact.

This is the type of situation that warrants a firing of Macha. Talk about not knowing how to manage a pitching staff!!!!

He probably should have removed Wolf sooner, but if Weeks is playing in the normal spot a second baseman is at, it's an inning end DP ball. The next hitter gets jammed and bloops one in.

This isn't a good team, but they can't catch a break either.

EDIT-- Another seeing eye grounder and now an error. Could end up being a 4-6 run inning on no hard it balls

Ya more bad luck... I guess this Brewers team is the most snake bitten team in the history of baseball...

I'm still fuming over here as to why Macha left Wolf in to pitch the 7th. He just struggled mightily to finish the 6th (including a walk on 4 pitches), looking gassed, and he trots him out there to get shelled in the 7th.
