dh candidate for twins series?

djoctagone

assuming adam stern is optioned down when carlos gomez is activated, who is the dh for the upcoming series against the twins?

knowing that pitchers will not have to bat for three games, will the brewers revert to a 12-man pitching staff?

it would have been ideal for prince fielder to dh with jim edmonds to play first, just to give fielder a little breather. now, it appears that prince will not be able to dh at all this weekend.

crazy idea if the brewers stick with a 13-man pitching staff . . . what are the odds of yovani gallardo serving as dh for a game or two?

I would put Kottaras in as DH. When he is catching, perhaps Counsell or Inglett. Not the best choices, but that is what happens when you have injuries...

Gallardo would be an embarrassment as a DH (i.e. that the team would rely on him as a DH). He is a nice hitter for a pitcher, but come on...

I don't see anyone I'd give a call from the minors to play DH, but perhaps they could shift McGehee over to first, bring Counsell in at third, and let Prince DH. Whoever it is, I'm sure he will be a better choice than Tony Gwynn Jr.

They don't really have any good options to upgrade the offense with, so they better at least upgrade the defense. Prince DHing or counsell playing 2B? None of the options are very exciting.

And I assume the Yo suggestion was a joke?

Since I seriously doubt the willingness of the org. to DH Prince (though yours would be my first scenario, too), I'd just vote to DH McGehee & slap Counsell at 3B, but that's probably a longshot too. My guess would be Gerut DHing if Gomez is healthy & Edmonds isn't.

I'd DH Kottaras (based on matchups) and call up Lucroy for the weekend. Gives us more pop then the alternatives and gets Lucroy a taste of MLB in a backup role.
how do you clear the roster spot for lucroy? somebody on the 40-man has to be removed, and it doesn't appear that any player on the 15-day disabled list can be transferred to the 60-day disabled list (unless the injuries to edmonds and hawkins are more severe than we thought).

...the consequences of a Zaun injury would be really bad if Kottaras was at DH and Lucroy wasn't called up prior.

Not really, Kottaras just becomes catcher and they lose the DH for the rest of the game...not that big a deal, especially with several Brewer starters being not too bad at hitting.

I'd do a new guy every game. Something like Braun, Weeks, and McGehee or Prince. Put Inglett in at 2nd for Weeks, Counsell at 3rd for McGehee, Gerut in LF.

I think that is the way to do it, give some guys a partial day off without losing their bats and simultaneously upgrade the defense (although I don't know if they really have an upgrade for 2b, Weeks has his problems, but he does have a lot of range). Since Braun just had some time off in the Atlanta series, using Weeks, McGehee, and Price might be the best way to do it.

They may not be too bad, but none of them are as good as Jim Thome. It'd be like putting yourself at a man down for the rest of the game. But as naivin said, throwing away one game probably isn't a big deal anymore at this point.

Inglett isn't the worst option, but I still like the idea of McGehee either DHing or moving to 1B, with Counsell playing 3B.

Hell, we may want to start trying McGehee at first base anyway, since he might have to start there regularly before the season is over.

Is our 9th best hitter Jim Thome? The difference we are talking about is, I think, more like Counsell, Escobar, or Gerut vs. Gallardo or Parra batting.

There is also the option to use pinch hitters, so we might only be talking about 1-2 at bats for the pitcher and this is only on the remote chance that the catcher happens to get injured in that particular game.
