Dillon/Dessens Up, Linebrink to Bereavement, Weeks to AAA

I think Rickie should be ok with this. Obviously he's not going to be happy. And all his pals are still on the MLB club. He just flat out wasn't playing well.

He's almost trying to go Geoff Jenkins at the plate sometimes it appears with the reaching for the low and away. Hopefully he goes down, hits AAA at a pretty good clip and is back up within a couple "weeks." I'm sorry it's early and I'm tired but as of right now the Weeks "weeks" thing is funny to me.

Off to work...

I had hoped Dessens would never pitch for the Brewers again.

I'm with you on that. That's the real surprising part of the move, imo. I figured they would just DFA or release him, not because he's necessarily terrible, but just because the other guys in the pen are all better than him.

Weeks to AAA makes some sense, though I'm a little worried about his psyche while he's there. I hope he realizes that the team stilll has all the hope in the world for him.

Dillon to MLB also makes some sense, as he has demolished AAA in his last few tours. May as well see what he can do. I hope he can play 2nd adequately, although if you believe Rickie's defensive ratings, a guy with 2 broken legs and an eye patch could take over and the Brewers wouldn't see much of a downgrade.

Nice work by Melvin to poke a hole in the bereahvment list. Originally the league said Linebrink wasn't eligible, because childbirth wasn't on the list of excuses. Melvin then called back to see if family surgury was, and it was. Linebrinks wife had a C section, which is a surgury. Childbirth should be added to the list.

Weeks to AAA is the right thing to do. Why try let get him to straighten himself out here, when he can do it in AAA? He still has a terrific future, but this probably isn't his year.

I've been pimping Dillon for awhile now, he's very deserving.

Also, Dessens is a better pitcher than he showed earlier in the year.

Hopefully Rickie has the right attitude about the demotion and doesn't pull a Jose Capellan on us.

I don't really see this being an issue. Rickie's always come off as a very humble, thoughtful guy so I'm sure he'll take this in stride. He would be kidding himself if he thought he couldn't use some time in AAA.

I have a very good feeling about sending Rickie to AAA. He should be hitting his stride just about the time September call-ups rolls around, which would be like trading for a stud-two-bagger. He clearly wasn't helping the team right now, so bringing a guy like Dillon up makes sense.

Dessens is up probably because of the 13 inning slugfest last night. I don't see him hanging with the club much longer than the end of the week. Unless of course, Wise doesn't get his head screwed on straight. That could be an issue, judging by Yost's post-game comment last night.

With Dillon up can we hope Yost finally PHs for Mench against right handed pitchers? Don't look now, but Jenkins has been better vs LHP than Mench vs RHP:

Jenkins vs LHP:

.217&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .294&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .435&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .729

Mench vs RHP:

.230&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .243&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .320&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .563

Of course Jenkins has been limited in his exposure to LHP at 49 PAs vs LHP vs 245 vs RHP. Mench? Not so much. Mench has 102 PAs vs RHP vs 122 vs LHP.

My guess is that Wise "caught" (probably like in the classic movie "The Hidden") whatever Dessens had, -- and through much adversity Dessens has clawed his way back to the healthy.

I'm going to be selfish and just flat out say it will be fun to see Weeks in Nashville. I've seen and spoke with Gross and he seemed to have taken everything alright and now hopefully Rickie will be the same. Gross has been one of the first ones out stretching and getting ready. I think I might go to all the games next weekend to see Rickie.

"this is a good move...the brewers could use a hot stick off the bat,"

Yeah, they sure do...wait, you don't mean Dillon, do you?

Dillon is 32 tomorrow! This will already make him one of the oldest guys on the team. A classic AAAA guy. He's Winkelsas with a bat.

Sure, he was killing Triple-A pitching this year, but that's like Bart getting demoted to 3rd grade in the same class with Lisa, and answering every question correctly because he repeated the grade and was already exposed to everything they taught.

I knew the majority at BF.net was going to cheer bringing up a nugget and expect his MLB-equivalent score to translate into major league production, Brad, but at age 32, if Dillon WASN'T destroying AAA pitching, he'd be washing cars for a living by now.

Get your wrist, thumb, finger, palm, knuckles...and swing back to 100% down there, Rickie. I can't wait til you're back!

really, this move makes a lot of sense right now. They have two players that can play 2b well. If Weeks gets himself figured out, he could be better than adding a new bat to the lineup once he's recalled.

I'm with most here thinking weeks getting sent down is a good thing. I guess I never would have thought Dessens would be the one to replace him. I just hope that Weeks does get things turned around down there. I also hope that he doesn't tailspin more and become someone like a Jr. Spivey.

Really, it's Joe Dillon that's replacing him... I think Dessens on the roster because:

a) Bush went so long last night

b) Linebrink isn't available

c) The Brewers may attempt to trade Dessens to someone who needs a 5th starter

Maybe this belongs someplace else, but is anybody else angry at the Linebrink situation? We know he doesn't want to be here and now it's clear that he doesn't want to sign next year, but if we miss the playoffs by one game and it's in this stretch, I'll consider him a new Enemy of the Brewer State.

Bereavement? It's outrageous and bizarre, given the circumstances.

You think the other men in the pen are going to welcome him with open arms after he takes five or six days off in a period where his arm could be the difference?

I'm sorry, but this is not a white-collar job. If he's a farmer during harvest he doesn't get time off. If he's a foreman on a welding job where the contract's coming due, he doesn't get time off. If he's a fisherman during the run, he doesn't get time off. Whatever they say to the contrary, that bullpen is gassed and they need Linebrink, especially considering what we gave up to get him. And they must have contemplated this before the trade.

On the plus side, if a veteran arm like his doesn't get rejuvenated by more than a week off pitching....

I think Weeks has the right attitude and won't become a headcase.

Yost pointed out a few weeks back that when he pinch hit Graffy for Weeks and Graffy won the game that Weeks was one of the first players out on the field to congratulate Graffy. Some guys would've still been on the bench pouting as the team celebrated.

I have high hopes that Weeks will be recovered from the wrist next year and become the star he was destined to be.

How could anyone be angry at a guy who went to his wifes side when she was going to have a c-section?
