Axford called up, Stern back to Nashville

Recommended Posts

I mentioned in the chat last night it wouldn't surprise me if we went to 13 pitchers soon considering the state of our pitching. Macha probably wasn't going to use Stern much anyway.

I'm hoping it's to DFA Soup to get Gomez back on the 25-man, but it will probably be to send Axford back down
Yeah, I to am kind of hoping it is Suppan. I hope Axford makes the Brewers brass decision tough by coming up and having some good performances out of the pen.

Could there be a revolving door of pitchers with options to effectively have an extra pitcher? It sounds kind of dumb, but at this point, it might not be a bad idea.

I see Stetter going down if Axford does well otherwise I think Axford will go back down

Slightly tangential, but it's so nice to have a bunch of power arms coming through the minors that are not just on Dr. James Andrews's waiting list.

That's because they've already had surgery... Braddock, Peralta, Rivas, Rogers.

You can add Axford to that list as well...

And even though they had surgery, they all still throw hard. Except Rivas, I don't think he throws as hard as the others.

Rivas consistently works 92-93 and hits 95.

I understand that who the pinch hitters are on a team are at the absolute bottom of importance compared to other areas of a team and i haven't been following the minors much, but wasn't there anyone who could have been called up instead of Stern who hits from the right side so that late in games we aren't constantly having to choose between 3-4 lefthanded pinch hitters when a lefty is on the mound?
