Scooter Gennett

I was under the impression he was a shortstop, but looking at box scores he seems to be playing second base an awful lot. Does he still have a future as a shortstop or is he going to come up as a second basemen? It seems weird for him to be playing 2B considering how much depth there is at the position in the system and the lack of any high-ceiling shortstops. Plus, Cutter Dykstra has recently been playing in Wisconsin and he is a second basemen too, but he's been relegated to DH.

From last week:

Wisconsin manager

Jeff Isom believes Gennett, who turned 20 on May 1, might

profile as a second baseman down the road. But roving infield instructor

Garth Iorg hopes he stays at short as long as possible.

"He's playing

shortstop; it's too early to tell if he'll stay there," said Iorg. "He's

a young kid. I hate taking people away from shortstop because they're

so hard to find.

"He's got a big

arm. He moves around the field OK."

Gennett's now played 11 games at short and 22 at second base. I agree that their handling of his position, especially with Dykstra around, has been a little odd.

Just from anyone who has seem him play in person....does he look like he can handle shortstop? I would think if there's a chance he could play shortstop it would make sense that he stay there. It also allows Dykstra onto the field.

I would keep anybody who can play SS there as long as possible unless there is a better option. I think behind Escobar our next guy is Josh Prince who was drafted just last year.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

He absolutely has the range to play short. Haven't really seen him have to unload one so I can't speak for his arm.

I really don't know why he's still been primarily playing second, especially with Marseco's inability to do anything but weakly ground out on a consistent basis. Maybe not messing with the hot hand?
