2010-05-10 Braves (Hanson) at Brewers (Davis), 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 8-2]

Davis walked SIX! Granted one was intentional, but this is what I remember of Doug Davis the first go around. I have a hard time blaming the defense when Davis is on the mound. He works excruciatingly slow and walks an unacceptable amount of batters. Didn't he walk McClouth on four pitches to start the 5th inning (who eventually scored)? That cannot happen. And prior to that inning, Davis was hit hard on several occasions, but they just happened to be right at a fielder. I find it very hard to visualize Doug Davis pitching for a playoff caliber team, much less actually pitching in the playoffs. Manny Parra should be taking his spot in the rotation. Or, sadly, I would rather see Suppan starting over Doug Davis.

I was in attendance tonight, it was a boring crowd

I believe a big reason why was who was pitching for the Brewers. Nobody takes the crowd out of a game better than Doug Davis. I was there for his outing against the Cubs, and it was the same way for Brewer fans. We were bored and disinterested in 30+ second delays in between pitches. It would be tolerable if he was actually good, but he's not.

The silver lining is that very few Brewers fans saw the bad performance tonight. The attendance of 24,365 was the smallest since April 24,2008.

That really shocks me, especially since they have the 5 county half priced ticket deals right now. I took advantage of that and will be at the park for the day game on Wednesday with a couple of friends.

I think it would have been better if the weather was nice, but attendance is lagging a bit this year. I'm sure it will go down from 2009, but the disproportionate amount of summer home games could help even things out. I also find it interesting that the missing fans disappeared from the cheap seats--the terrace and bleachers, so perhaps some of the fair weather fans are going back into hiding.
