Hawkins to DL, Stetter called up

Recommended Posts

Well, I hope the DL stint for Hawkins will help him figure out what is going on with his velocity. It will be nice to have the situational LOOGY back in Stetter.

I thought this would come after reading the article where Hawkins said he felt alright, but was throwing 90-91 instead of 95-96. Glad to have Stetter back up, so he can be Loogy with Parra getting multiple inning outings. Hopefully Hawkins can rest his arm and come back strong, and hopefully Suppan will be release when Hawkins is ready to come back.

Glad to see that this move was finally made. I still don't understand why baseball players insist that they are feeling fine when they clearly aren't. It is like they think that they will lose their job if they need to go on the DL while playing horribly will justify them staying on the roster.

I hope makes it back 100% and Stetter is lights out LOOGY awesome so Melvin's hand might be forced to dump someone else.

Another bright spot to this move is that, without Hawkins locked into that "setup" role, Coffey and Villanueva should get more late-inning work. They deserve it. Especially Coffey, who was inexplicably bumped to middle relief after performing so well last year.

That might just be a fancy term for dead arm. His velocity was off 5 mph the other night, that's tough to explain if you are not less than 100%.
Or "dead arm" is just a layman's term for any number of actual medical conditions?

There's no way they release Suppan unless

he really falters soon in his relief role.

I

agree. Hell, he's ahead of Parra in the bullpen, so apparently

Parra would be released first!

Hawkins hasnt been the same velocity wise since Macha let him throw over 40 pitches against the cubs. I fully blame our clueless manager for this injury.

That's like two innings of work. He should be able to throw two innings worth of pitches.

Braddock, Smith, Axford and Stetter all a deserving of a role in the bullpen. I hope Melvin learns to not waste money on relief pitchers in the future.
Well put twobrewers. No need to spend money on guys like Riske and Hawkins when we have good young arms that are cheaper and proably as effective if not more.

I am glad to have Stetter back. Now Parra won't have to try to be that lefty specialist.

well, Soup IS the veteran and Parra isn't. i just can't think of any alternative way to order a bullpen except by seniority, can you?

i'd love to see Parra tried out in the set-up role, which i think he'd be great at.
