Even if protection does exist, McGehee has always hit behind Fielder. I don't see what effect Fielder is having on McGehee.

Maybe Im wrong but I feel that Casey RBI total has something to do with Prince OBP.

So we can't fill holes because then we can't fill other holes?

These are potential aces. I think they will be signed for a mighty high amount. I dont think we will have much money to sign high priced free agents , and I dont think we will want to give away a draft pick for a Type A free agent with the farm system being so depleted.

Some tweets from Kevin Goldstein for what it's worth;

No clue; I've gotten five texts from front office folks asking the same . . . RT @maelias33: @Kevin_Goldstein what are odds this is true?

Just spoke to the agent of both Jeremy Jeffress and Lorenzo Cain, says neither of his clients have been contacted by either team.

@Jpinick I can only tell you what I know, which amounts to tell you that people don't know, which is admittedly weird.

I'll just say that I don't think it's done right now. RT @Kauffman4: @Kevin_Goldstein Do you think the Greinke rumors are true?

Solid chance you will never sleep again. RT @jtoryfter: @Kevin_Goldstein Kevin I refuse to go to sleep until you can confirm this deal!

This seems to reminiscent of the Badger Blogger episode for me to get to excited about it right now.

Wow, just logged on to BF.net and did not expect to see this. This trade excites me although I'm a little nervous about giving up both Cain and Ordorizzi. If this is true, I'm glad I kept the Cain tshirt jersey off my christmas list which I had planned to ask for. I'll be much more comfortable with this trade if there is a good chance of an extension.

If the trade falls through I feel like we'll be reliving a scene from "The Waterboy".... oh no we suck again!

There is absolutely no doubt that the way to win in MLB is having elite pitching. None of the four players we are rumored to be trading has the star power of Greinke. Are we a player away? Likely not, but adding the elite blue chip pitchers is much harder than adding reinforcements like solid (no-stick) defensive players.

Defensive players are a dime a dozen and I have faith that Melvin can acquire a few to make 2-1 leads stick behind Marcum and Greinke

Agreed. Losing Cain and Escobar would hurt, however they are replaceable. A no hit SS with decent range isn't that hard to find in baseball. While Gomez isn't exactly a great CFer, he can do for now. Hart, Braun, Weeks, Casey and Prince can carry the offense.

The more and more I think about this trade, the more I like it. I think this would be a great job by Melvin (if true). Originally the plan was to trade Prince this offseason for young pitching which obviously fell through. Instead, he has put together a rotation that will give us a great opportunity to contend this year and when we lose Prince, we will have both Greinke and Marcum to trade during the 2011-12 offseason or 2012 season to get the young pitching we desired for Prince if we have a huge dropoff after this year.

You make a good point. If next year blows up and turns into a disaster Prince leaves and that still leaves two or three great pitchers to trade to replace what was just lost. I really couldn't like this trade anymore unless Doug finds a way to keep Cain.

If this happens, doug needs a raise, or a statue, or something.

In the long term, we will undoubtedly feel the absence of Escobar/Cain/Odorizzi. In the short term, however, we won't at all.

As much as Escobar gives us a long term hole to fill in SS. But -20 BRAA is essentially replaceable by any good member of BFnet. His defense, highly praised, was underwhelming both from the scouting and saber front. As much as we expected him to improve this upcoming season, he was flirting with replacement level. Nothing a cheap fix like Edgar Renteria won't cover.

Cain played really well in limited time, but his innings were far too low to make a major impact. I'd also like the say that it was a good move selling high on Cain. This time last year, he wasn't on anyone's radar. Now he's headlining a deal for one of the top 8 or so pitchers in baseball. I don't see how his value could reasonably get that much higher.

Odorizzi's impact wasn't felt at all at the MLB level. And if Marcum/Greinke are extended, his absence isn't that noticeable. Not with several capable arms (even if they aren't outstanding) in Heckathorn, Peralta, Rogers and Scarpetta.

Jeffress is probably a bullpen arm. With Axford under contract and a great selection of capable arms between the above 4 that don't make the rotation, our MLB bullpen, and our AAA options, I'm not worried.

Also, and I can't stress this enough, we get Greinke quotes year round.

Kind of a weird tweet.

Writing about Scooter Gennett at 1:30 in the morning is fun. Who needs a trade?

That is odd. Because Gennett is nowhere near MLB ready maybe 2 years at the earliest but I would have to say he would be 3 or 4 years away.
He's doing the Brewers' Top 11 right now and must have Gennett as the 11th prospect. Odorizzi not being in it bumped everybody up a spot.
