Zack Greinke [Latest: Deal for Odorizzi/Cain/Escobar/Jeffress in place? reply 464]

"..... Brewers would send the Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain, shortstop Alcides Escobar and prospect pitchers Jake Odorizzi and Jeremy Jeffress for Greinke, who went 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA last season with Kansas City."

Oh boy, giving up Odorizzi would really make me sour on this deal unless we can extend Greinke.

This rumor doesnt sound legit.

If the blogger is making comments like "not sure if I should go with it" and he doesnt want to look foolish, then why not report the rumor as "I have heard Milwaukee and KC are talking...here are the names...nothing is imminent"??? That way, it reads as speculation...not, they made a deal and it will be announced Monday.

By the way, the "it will be announced Monday" part is the part that tells me this rumor is false.

Not saying I necessarily think it is legit, but I appreciate the fact that he is reflecting on the repurcussions of going public without organizational confirmation. He's being honest, it might appear. And he didn't report it as names being exchanged because that is not what he is asserting he has learned. He's writing he's learned it's done.

And when are deals not officially announced a few days after the rumors are confirmed? They need time for physicals, medical records, mlb approval, and to notify players, at least—potentially time to set parameters for an extension.

Greinke is one player I wouldn't mind at all seeing the Brewers use the 'Fielder money' (if you will) to extend.

I agree with Toby, Odorizzi being included makes a lot more sense. Anytime we as fans can acquire an amazing player in return without feeling much remorse in the players we lost usually is a sign of either a false rumor or a very bad trade for the other team. Losing Odorizzi hurts the most, as it should to get a player like Greinke in return.

I'm going to jump ahead of everyone and pin Zack Greinke as the Brewers' Reggie White http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.

I dont know, the Marcum deal was confirmed about this same time on a Sunday night. It just seems to me that if it were this close to being done that SOME other outlet would have their fingers in it. But at this point, all is quiet.

I hate that "tweet" has become part of the lexicon.

What I hate is when somebody posts all of a tweet then posts a link to that tweet and you click on it only to see what you just read again. Ranks right up there with those "click to enlarge" pictures that you click on and it opens another window with the same picture the exact same size it was before.

The Brewers are expected to receive another "major league" player in the deal, according to the source.
If that's the case we are not getting Betancourt in return with Greinke.

I find a deal including Odorizzi much more plausible.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

The Brewers should have the money available to sign Greinke to an extension (making use of some of the money saved by not having Fielder).

This rotation rocks!

Greinke

Gallardo

Marcum

Wolf

Naverson/Capuano/Rogers

Loosing Odorizzi is difficult to swallow, I really liked the guy. But with the above rotation we will be a top 3 team in the NL (behind only Philly and possibly SF).

This is a team that will be able to compete for it all in 2011. A top 5 offense paired with a top 5 pitching rotation. This is exciting, even if it came at a high cost.

First off, bummer, I've got some friends in the Royals organization, but I just got home. I may have been able to get some info on this, but not at this hour.

If this is true, obviously I'm glad to get Greinke, but make no mistake, that is a TON of young talent going to KC.

With Odorizzi going over, maybe we can hope for a better player than Betancourt coming our way?

I doubt it, but I'll try to remain hopeful. I mean... ZACK GREINKE!!!!

WHY would he make a trade of Prince now? If this deal is true, the 2011 Brewers are a force to be reckoned with in the NL.

The consensus this past season & now offseason is that the comp. picks are as good or better than what Melvin was offered for Prince. So why would that all of a sudden change?

I've said it a few other times, but Greinke has to be resigned. This is way too much to give up for two years of Greinke. If you can resign Greinke for say 4 years, great, but I want him to be extended immediately.

I'm hesitant to even comment, but, if it's true, I'll be happy to see us get another top pitcher. At what price will be determined in two-to-three years, though, so it makes me wary if it is worth it in the long run.

From what I've read, it sounds like Odorizzi is the real deal; an ace that we've been waiting to come through our system. Jeffress could still become a very good pitcher. I like Cain alot and Escobar is still learning (although his Winter League numbers leave a lot to be desired when placed on top of his 2010 MLB line.)

I don't know. I'm excited about this kind of an offer but I'm also very nervous that, down the line, it could blow up in our face. I guess if your Doug Melvin, this is the kind of move that HAS to be made, though. And I AM a Brewer fan so I HAVE to be happy that they're trying to make an effort to win rather than have a goal of .500 for the year.

I guess we shall see what happens on Monday (or Tuesday, Wednesday, or any other day next week, really.)

I will add this - if Jim Breen posted this, he has pretty good reason to do so. He doesn't make things up. I've known him many years, and he's as straight up as they come.

It doesn't mean he couldn't be mislead, but I can promise he's not posting this lightly.
