What's NOT bugging you? (2007 – 2013)

splitterpfj

Pitch,

I've read about people calling Directv to complain about the Viacom channels that are under dispute and getting deep discounts on premiums, including the Sunday Ticket. Haven't tried it myself, so YMMV. Also, Directv is offering the Encore movie channels free until the end of the month because of the dispute.

just saw a commercial that said Directv NFL Sunday Ticket is only $199.99 this season. Now that might seem excessive to some, but compared to the $349.99 price last year, this definitely does NOT bug me.

Of course, knowing my luck, it's only for new subscribers, in which this post should be transferred to the "What's Bugging You?" thread.

You may not want to hear this, but for new subscribers it is actually free for the first year. I had that great pleasure last season and had told myself that I would never spend $350 on it. Now that it's on $200 I am really thinking about dropping down the cash for it. Trying to figure out how to convince the wife that it's too good of a deal to pass up.

Everything I've ever known, I've learned from Brewerfan.net....Seriously though

well, I went on the website and saw that the deal is indeed real. With a catch.

It's $199.99 for the basic NFL Sunday Ticket package, which includes all games in HD. And then there are some meaningless trinkets (fantasy tracker, 8 games-on-1-channel, etc.)

For an extra $100, though, you get ability to watch on your phone/computer/etc. AND Red Zone channel.

Yep, that's right, folks. The Red Zone Channel, which is AWESOME to watch when not watching a Packer game, is now a $100 option--it's NOT included in the basic plan.

That kind of blows. So for the next month and a half, I'm going to be flipping back and forth of whether Red Zone Channel is worth $100 or not. I'm heavily leaning toward not.

I was looking through the Gameday program from the Pirates' series and found a photo that includes me and the S.O. It's from May 8, when our ticket rep offered us a free upgrade from 417 to the second row of 110. It happened to be the night Travis Ishikawa leaned into row 1 of section 110 to catch a foul ball. We weren't visible on the video clips that aired after the game, and I look kind of dorky in the photo, but it's still a good reminder of how near we were to that play. It was exciting and interesting to see up close.

The reason the company gave for dropping the price is that in the past few years they have used it as a tool for subscriber retention and awarding long time subs. Guys I work with would call and complain about something everyday until they convinced someone to give them a deal or even give them Sunday Ticket for free.

DirecTV usually provides an accounting line item in their earnings announcements spelling out how much stuff they gave away like discounts, free premiums, etc. to customers. This year they said they were cutting down on all that stuff and they figured out that if 20% of the people they used to give discounted or free Sunday Ticket to, sign up and they keep all the old subs who used to pay full price for Sunday Ticket they will break even with the new lower pricing. They just aren't going to give further discounts or give it away free as much now that pricing has been lowered.

I think alot of the price drop has to do with games being picked up on NFL Network on Thursdays as well as SNF and MNF games. Eventually once we end up with WNF and FNF the Ticket will either be gone or super cheap :laughing

car broke down again. my credit is maxed out and i have $400 in the bank, so i was pretty scared. turned out to be just a battery connection issue that i fixed myself. phew!

[to the only other person working at night with me] "hey, my car is dead. any chance i could get a ride home?"

"...I don't know where you live and I just don't want to get lost in the middle of town at night."

"Oh, ok, no problem. I'll just walk home, then" (it's an 8-mile walk).

[upon finding out that he knows exactly where i live]..."Oh, well, I live with my parents and they'll get really worried if I came home late."

"Yeah, understand. Have a good night."

"Just be careful walking home. It's a pretty bad area at night."

"Well, hopefully not tonight."

After 4 years of fairly constant use my Eneloop batteries are dying on me. It bugged me at first but I considered how much use we got out of those things and they have paid for themselves several times over.

I have Time Warner Cable and I'm flipping channels tonight and I see NFLHD. Huh!?! It's the NFL network! It's the Ravens/Browns game! When did this happen? I had to look it up. Apparently it happened last Thursday or Friday. I had no idea!

A few days ago, my dad told me that the NFL Network would be showing up. He couldn't find it at that point, though.

When I said it happened Thursday or Friday, I meant that is when the agreement was reached between TWC and NFL. I'm not sure when TWC actually started broadcasting the NFL network.
