(1) The Packers are 1-0 lifetime while an HDTV has been in our house. Happy to help it happen. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

(2) Football has ended, in the best possible way no less, which means baseball's next! Baseball baseball baseball!

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

A super bowl victory and a world series victory in the same year sounds nice.

I won a $500 research grant to go to Washington, DC over spring break from the UW History department. It may sound nerdy, but spending the week in the National Archives and the Library of Congress will be the best spring break I've ever had.
Congratulations! That is pretty sweet. Three cheers for history nerds. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

As The Rock would say, "Finally. . .JimH5 has come back to Wisconsin!"

After 12 1/2 years away, me and Mrs. H5 are again official residents of the great State of Wisconsin. And we added one since we left in 1998.

Thanks to the regulars on BF.net for being one of my lifelines back to America's Dairyland. I always like to keep in touch with my home state, and this remains a fine place to do that.

Now my Brewer fandom might actually manifest itself in being able to attend some games at Miller Park. I hope to see you there. . .if you see a short, menacing white-haired man wearing a wool suit, appearing in black & white--that will be me.

So Jim, your avatar is actually you and not Kennesaw Mountain Landis?

I like the idea that people think of me when they see Judge Landis.

I don't like that he was a huge racist, but he was grouchy, opinionated and full of bombast. Perfect for a message board avatar!

As for any true-to-life likeness, sadly, I am not as fetching as the judge. He was a real looker.

To set the stage: my wife is a full time teacher and is currently in grad school so I find myself as the main parent of our two year old son and keeper of most/all of the household duties. I'm totally fine with this temporary arrangement (love it in fact); but it does get a little much at times. My wife is also not much of a Brewer fan, so when we have down time together she prefers to watch movies or TV or just spend QT rather than watch baseball.

What is not bugging me: I just cleared the evening as mommy/harry time (part of it set aside for THEM to cook for ME for a change!) and she'll do her school work after he goes to bed. Since he naps after lunch on most days, this clears all three brewer games this weekend for nearly uninterrupted viewing by yours truly! I'm currently drinking a beer and listening to some classic vinyl on the turntable. These developments are not bugging me at all!

I walked in to apply for a job that I wanted yesterday and wound up getting two interviews and hired on the spot after filling out my application.
congrats! so odd after all the work you must have done to find a job you end up getting one that way.

i got my first professional job after the boss said to me "Eh, you seem pretty normal."

For my birthday/Christmas, my wife got me 4 pounds of Kona coffee from Hawaii. I'm a coffee snob, so this came as an absolute wonderful treat. I just opened the final pound today...it was the most expensive type she ordered...and wow...it is amazing.

I just noticed my publisher is doing a second printing of my book. It only took a shade under eight years to sell 1,200 books, so you know I'll be negotiating movie rights and releasing a sequel soon. Only 10 of the 100+ titles in the "Baseball in America" series have gotten more than one printing.

finally, Southern Texas is getting some rain. first time in about four months.

ran into a farmer the other day who's been farming for almost 50 years and said this was the first year where he'd completely lost his crop. the lake i work at is 14" down, but most around the area are around 3' low. unfortunately, i wonder if most crops around here are already done for even if it's raining today.

Becoming a dad! My wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl early Sunday morning. One of the first things I did was tell my daughter about going to her first Brewer game! It's a wonderful experience, and am so proud of my wife.
