What's NOT bugging you? (2007 – 2013)

splitterpfj

My son coming into the room with his guitar strapped around his neck, then playing me "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, which he had just taught himself.

Oh, and Pedro hooking me up with Brewers tickets...that is most definitely not bugging me.

I'll second something by pedro, sending me a Driver autographed 8x10. and staying up late like I'm a little kid because I don't have to work tomorrow is super fun.

what definitely doesn't bug me is a friend regularly sending me the Brewers' magic number. even this early, it's better than when i was a kid and counted down the days until Christmas on one of those window-card things.

One of my best friends and drummer of the last band I was in, is flying in from Fla today. We have 2 jams scheduled for Mon. and Tues. Day jams are awesome, crawling out of a dank, dingy basement, senses numb, very buzzed and the sun high in the sky. I have a bass player coming Monday who I haven't seen since 1990. He plays now with a band called Act Your Age in Milwaukee and is a great guy that I just lost touch with. As a special treat the guitar player and I worked up a cool version of Tommy's (the drummer dude and guitar players bro) favorite Clash song - Washington Bullets. He's gonna freak! I wish it was Monday morn.

edit- forgot the best part. This guy was a lifelong Cubs fan but after working with me 2 summers and listening to Uecker every night he converted from the darkside. I bought him the mlb audio package this spring cos he was worried about missing Brewer baseball. Usually he calls 2-3 times a week to talk about the Crew.

87 more days until Halo 3 comes out. Maybe this should have gone in the "What's bugging you thread" but, it seems like just yesterday I was thinking, "2 years until Halo 3 comes out."

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had my dog put to sleep yesterday, and I feel glad.

I'm glad that he was able to be part of the family for five weeks short of fifteen years, which is phenomenal for a dog with German Shepherd in his blood. And I feel privileged that he lived with me for just over his last seven years.

As always, on his last day, he placed his trust in me. Typically, he wasn't happy to be at the vet. As he lay on the table, he worked his way off the edge and into my arms. That's where he died.

Today, every time I'd get out of my chair, I'd look over at his favorite spot, expecting him to be looking up at me. I'd do that out of habit because I'd generally tell him to 'stay'. In earlier times, that would be because it was unnecessary for him to be following me around the house. Lately, it'd be because I wanted to save the stress on his old bones.

I can make the adjustment because I know I did what was right for him. Yesterday, I felt good once all was said and done.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Casey, that is sad to hear. I know that your dog meant a lot to you, as you mentioned him a great deal and even had a pic in your avatar. Sorry for your loss, but as you said, it was for the best if he was in pain.

Wow Casey, that was touching.

We had to put my boy (yellow lab) down some three years ago and I still think of him every day. He was about twelve and the legs were gone. His heart was still in it, but not his body.

It finally came to be that taking hidden pills in his food just to save the pain was not fair. I'll never forget saying goodbye and the pain I felt as I walked out the door knowing I'd never see him again. Damn, I just teared up typing that.

As a tribute, I keep his dog tag on my key chain. He's always with me that way.

"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."
