Its not as if Escobar hasn't been playing. Sometimes the matchups really do dictate the line ups and as I mentioned before, he sure has looked like a guy that could use a day or 2 off - both at the plate and the field. I love Escobar as much as the next guy, but we should remember he is 22, in his first season starting, and coming off of winter ball and ST. Not a bad idea to give him a day off here and there IMO. Not like Counsell is horrible. Solid in every facet of the game
This is his third day off in the last six games. He had back to back games off a couple weeks ago. There's no reason to be sitting him this much. If you want Counsell to play, put him in for Weeks who has looked lost at the plate for the last week.

Weeks isn't a 22 year old rookie making boneheaded mistakes in the field. It's good for Escobar in the long run over the course of the season

It's good for him? How is he going to improve in the field if he's not on the field? How is he going to improve at the plate by not getting at bats?

Again - he is playing. A day off here and there isn't going to make him forget how to play baseball. Its going to keep him from wearing down. He has never been through a full MLB season

It's not a day off here and there. It's 6 games off already this year. Twice on back to back days. He played 147 games last year. The most he'll play this year is 155. Do we really think a 23 year old athlete can't handle 8 more games?

Rickie is now tied for second in the majors with 33 strikeouts this season. Not good......it would help if he could turn things around.

He has struck out a lot. But look at the rest of his stats. Pretty darn good.

I agree that his stats are pretty good.....obp, rbis, etc. I am worried, however, at his strikeouts. A large percentage of his K's have been in the last week.

THIS TEAM NEEDS TO SCORE AT SOME POINT THIS SEASON, PIRATES EXCLUDED

I think calling this team mediocre is giving them too much credit.

I agree. I predicted 79-83 before the season, but on another board I mentioned that I thought 79 wins might be too optimistic.

Only 38 of the games were at the MLB level. I would guess that the back to back days off are on purpose. With winter ball it will feel like a lot more than 155 games. I would be more concerned if he wasn't getting any days off. With Counsell typically being the first bat off the bench he needs to be kept sharp. I think we will just have to agree to disagree here.

Wolf is doing his best Suppan impression. Another 10 million dollar per year Melvin mistake. Milwaukee should be known as the soft tossing capital of the world.
Wow a guy gives up 4 runs in 5 IP to one of the hottest teams in baseball and now he is labeled a failure. His ERA is now 3.86.

yeah, if this team keeps looking like this we might need to include some Spring Training W's to get to 79

on the plus side, if this keeps up, Macha will be gone (searching for silver linings)
