San Diego - The lineup looks

different today for a few different reasons.

First, Craig Counsell is at shortstop for Alcides Escobar again.

I talked with Ken Macha during batting practice yesterday about this and

he said he just wants to get Counsell some more at-bats while he's

swinging the bat well. Seven of his 13 hits this year are for extra

bases and over his last 10 games Counsell is hitting .429 (12 for 28)

with a homer and eighth RBI while carrying a current six-game hitting

streak.

Second, Jody Gerut is starting in CF again for the hurt Carlos Gomez.

That means Jim Edmonds is probably still not ready to play with his bad

back. Macha wanted Edmonds to start today if he was healthy but that's

not happening.

Third, Joe Inglett gets his first start of the year in right field.

Inglett has appeared in 12 games this season, all of them off the bench.

He makes six left-handed hitters in the lineup today including four

straight at the bottom of the order.

I have no IGT skills what so ever, but I figured I would at least get the line up out there along with the explanations for the changes/replacements. Lets get this win and salvage a split here! Need some confidence so we can go beat up on a coldish Dodgers team

Might as well send Escobar to Nashville if our idiot manager isn't going to play him.
Left handed batters have an ops of .800 vs Garland as opposed to .659 for right handed batters. I think this has been a good opportunity to give Escy a few days to get his feet back under him. He had looked terrible at the plate as of late

So are we going to platoon him all year? Because if that's what Macha is going to do, I'd rather bring up Luis Cruz who can fill the right handed role and have Escobar play everyday in the minors.

Its not as if Escobar hasn't been playing. Sometimes the matchups really do dictate the line ups and as I mentioned before, he sure has looked like a guy that could use a day or 2 off - both at the plate and the field. I love Escobar as much as the next guy, but we should remember he is 22, in his first season starting, and coming off of winter ball and ST. Not a bad idea to give him a day off here and there IMO. Not like Counsell is horrible. Solid in every facet of the game

There is no reason to play rookies every single game of the season they almost always just wear down when you do it and most managers in baseball protect them against bad matchups. Macha really isn't doing anything wrong here.

Does anyone know where Brian Anderson is? I swear this is like the 10th game he's missed this year.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Randy Wolf has these phases where he just completely loses his command. How can they say "he always throws strikes" when in every other outing he's got a 30-50 pitch period where he's completely lost?
